THE STORY OF BOTTLED WATER

Plastic Bottle Numbers at MKIS(Data collected by the Global Citizenship Students)

This past Wednesday, during a High School lunch, the following data was collected:

Nearly 200 students and teachers used the canteen

63 plastic bottles were purchased (this does not include tetra and aluminum)

29 plastic bottles were thrown away into the regular silver bins (non-recycling)

14 plastic bottles were properly recycled

20 plastic bottles left the canteen (unknown whether recycled or not in hallway bins)

11 students and teachers brought a reusable water bottle (to the canteen)

12 students and teachers used the water fountain (to fill a reusable bottle or simply drink)

Have you checked the label?Treated tap water = 1-3 RM + high environmental cost

Treated tap water = FREE + low environmental cost

In case you missed it...

75% of the rubbish found in the regular MKIS silver bins is recyclable, including a large amount of plastic.

A Look Beyond: Overall Plastic Data

Over the two days, out of a total of 395 students, 285 of them bought something containing plastic,

accounting for 72% of the Middle School population.Approximately,

7 out of 10 people who go to the canteen to buy something with plastic

We did some math...

If these MS purchases continue,We will end up throwing away

over 20,000+ pieces of plastic

over the course of a normal school year.

This is just our Middle School

Imagine the plastic we throw away as a school community.
