Yidden. ‡d said, “Tell the Yidden, ‘If you will listen carefully

treasured nation, (I will watch over you like one watches a treasure).

All the nations are Mine, but I will pick you (to be the treasured

Then ‡d told d ¤WŸn to tell the Yidden how dxFY o ©Y ©n will work.

‡d said, “I will come down and talk to you (d ¤WŸn) through a

thick cloud, and tell you the zFx §A ¦c ©d z ¤x ¤U£r. (The purpose of the

cloud was so that people would not see the dpi ¦k §W of ‡d12). The

Yidden will all be able to hear Me telling you the dxFY, and they

will know that the dxFY is from Me, and that I told it to you. Then

you will come down and teach the dxFY to the Yidden”.13 By the

Yidden hearing Me talk to you, they will believe that you are a `i ¦ap,and they will believe that all what you tell them is from ‡d. Also

they will see themselves that ‡d talks to people and they will believe

d ¤WŸn came down from i©pi ¦q x ©d and told the Yidden how o ©Y ©ndxFY will work. The Yidden said, “No, we don’t want o ©Y ©n

see our King. We want ‡d to give the dxFY directly to us.”15

Day 4On the fourth day of oei ¦q, d ¤WŸn went back up and told ‡d what

the Yidden said.16 ‡d told d ¤WŸn to tell the Yidden that if they

want to have the dxFY given directly to them they must make special

preparations for 3 days. They must stay away from d`nEh and wash

their clothing. This way, they will be ready for ‡d to come down and

talk to them. They also must make a boundary around i©pi ¦q x ©d and

warn all the Yidden not to go up on i©pi ¦q x ©d or even touch it. Anyone

who touches i©pi ¦q x ©d, a person or even animal, will die.17 After o ©Y ©ndxFY will be over, ‡d will make a long xtFW sound. This will be a

signal that the dpi ¦k §W is leaving i©pi ¦q x ©d and everyone can go on the

mountain again.18

d ¤WŸn came down from the mountain and told the Yidden what

‡d said. (They must prepare for 3 days to be ready for ‡d to talk

to them and they must make a boundary around the mountain.19) At

that time, d ¤WŸn also told the Yidden some of the zF §v ¦n of the dxFY.

The Yidden answered all together “Whatever ‡d says, we will do”.20

d ¤WŸn then wrote down the dxFY from zi ¦W` ¥x §A until dxFY o ©Y ©n. He

also wrote down those zF §v ¦n which they were already told 21.

Day 5On the fifth day of oei ¦q22, d ¤WŸn woke up early and built a ©g ¥A §f ¦nat the bottom of the mountain. He also built 12 zFa¥v ©n, one for

each h¤a ¥W. Then d ¤WŸn sent the zFxFk §A to shecht zFpAx §w. d ¤WŸn caught

the blood in two bowls. He sprinkled the blood from one bowl on

He gave the other nations a chance to accept the dxFY. ‡d went

When the Yidden were asked if they want the dxFY, they

When the Yidden came to i©pi ¦q x ©d, ‡d lifted i©pi ¦q x ©d on top of

their heads. ‡d did this to force the Yidden to accept the dxFY.

‡d told the Yidden, “If you don’t accept the dxFY, there will be your

graves.”35 (Even though the Yidden already said they wanted the

dxFY, ‡d did not want them to change their minds out of fear of the

fire of dxFY o ©Y ©n)36.

The mountain was aflame with fire, burning up into the sky. 37

The Yidden saw the glory of ‡d as a raging fire on the top of

the mountain.38 The mountain was completely covered with smoke,

because the dpi ¦k §W of ‡d came down in fire. The smoke went up in a

pillar, like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain was

shaking very much.39 (The smoke was also a screen to block the

Yidden from seeing the dpi ¦k §W. There were 3 “layers”, darkness,

Besides that the fire showed that the dpi ¦k §W of ‡d came down,

the fire also showed how bilii ¥d and special the dxFY is, that it

was given in fire.41

The sound of the xtFW was getting stronger and stronger.

(When a person blows the xtFW it starts off strong and then

gets weaker. This sound was from ‡d, so it got stronger and

stronger).42

‡d took the whole m ¦i ©nW, folded it (to make it smaller), and

brought it down onto i©pi ¦q x ©d. Then the dpi ¦k §W of ‡d came down

on i©pi ¦q x ©d.43 ‡d came down to i©pi ¦q x ©d together with thousands of

mi ¦k ¨ §l ©n.44

‡d called d ¤WŸn to come up i©pi ¦q x ©d and he went up. ‡d told d ¤WŸn“Go warn the Yidden not to come onto i©pi ¦q x ©d; make sure not

even one Yid will come up and die. Even the mi ¦p£dŸM should be

warned, so that they don’t get hurt”.45 (‡d knew that the Yidden were

so eager to be close to Him, and they had a great desire to go up

close on i©pi ¦q x ©d. Therefore they had to be strongly warned)46.

d ¤WŸn replied, “The Yidden were already warned not to go up

on i©pi ¦q x ©d”. ‡d told d ¤WŸn to go anyway and warn them again.

(Even though they were warned before, they had to be warned

again, right before the event, so that they wouldn’t forget).47
