and it’s a miracle we all survived.

every year my mom’s side of the family takes a

trip to cape cod.

i tell people i summer at the cape.

i often leave out the fact that my summering is done in a tent.

(that i share with my dog.)

now don’t get me wrong, camping is fantastic.

think of all the bacon!

but family camping

is a breed of it’s own.

especially my family.

we bear no resemblance to the carefree people in this picture. (ok, except for the red sox hat.)

we’re a mixed bunch.

we have a seven year old who will

clean you out in poker.

the bob marley wanabes. one with dreads. one without.

yet loves to suggest potential facebook status updates.

(shhh! don’t tell him i talked about him on..gasp! the internet.)

a grown man who hates technology

example: ‘me’ beer is empty. will ye pass me another?

an irishman who casually throws in ‘me’ before nouns.

a little girl who will only eat sugar.

breakfast. lunch. & dinner.

a teenager in love.

boys who challenge each other to pointless

contests to prove their manliness.

milk chugging.arm wrestling.

push-ups.fire building.not bathing.

sigh. boys.

pet owners who seem to pay more attention to their

dogs than their children.

cough. mom. cough.

three electricians. two plumbers. one carpenter.

two chihuahuas. and one golden retriever.

my little cousin forgot my name and i was wearing a

we’re kindred spirits.

now imagine this group huddled under the awning

of a blue tarp in the pouring rain.

surrounded by loved ones and the peaceful sounds of nature.

ew! gross! nice one! nasty! evacuate! wowza! that’s not polite! save it for the bathroom!
