Parish Announcement

Next weekend is the Samaritan Center collection. Your contin-ued support is needed and very appreciated!

OUR SYMPATHY to the families of Viola Volmert who passed away on May 3rd and Ruth Raithel who passed away on May 5th. Their funerals were held here at St. Peter. We pray for Christ’s gift of eter-nal life for them and for comfort for their families in their great loss.

Schedule of Events

Help needed! Totus Tuus will be held at St. Peter June 10 – 16. In order to host this wonderful week of fun and faith for our parish youth, we need your help! Please consider donating your resources to assist us in providing:

Housing for 2 members of the Totus Tuus team. There will be 2 young men and two young women on our team; we need 2 places for the week.

Meals for 4 members of the Totus Tuus team. Our parish is responsible for providing lunches and dinners for the team. We need 5 lunches and 4 dinners provided. Sim-ple or fancy, whatever you can provide will be appreciat-ed!

Snack time for the Totus Tuus attendees. If you can spare about an hour each day of that week, you can help! It involves preparing and serving snacks to the children attending the day program. The snacks will be provided; you could be the hero that puts smiles on the faces of those children!

If you can help with one of these needs, please call the Fr. Simeon or Michelle in the Parish Office, 636-8159 or email [email protected]. Thank you for your assistance.

The parish was gifted a piece of property in Jefferson City in a parishioner’s will. In order to reduce the cost of upkeep and sale, we would like to offer our parishioners a chance to bid on the property. It is located at 717 Nelson Drive, Jefferson City, 65101. It is nearly ½ acre; 100 feet of frontage on Nelson that ex-tends 200 feet back with no buildings. If you would like to place a bid on this property, deliver a sealed bid to Michelle Truesdale in the Parish Office. Bids must be received by the office no later than 4:00pm on Friday, June 30. The par-ish will sell the lot, as is, to the highest bidder. Bidder is responsible for closing costs. Contact Michelle with any questions.

Marriage Tip “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundant-ly,” says Jesus. (Jn 10:10) We are still in the season of Easter, celebrating the joy of the Resurrection. In what ways can you let the risen Jesus renew your heart and your marriage?

If anyone has a certain month that they clean the chapel, please let me know. The months of June-November are unknown. If anyone wants to volunteer 1 hour a week to do this in the pres-ence of the Blessed Sacrament, let me know that also. Call Denise at the Parish Office.

Meekness

Meekness is the virtue that helps us overcome the sin of anger. It also helps us control and overcome resentment. The sin of anger, wrath or rage leads us to resentment and vengeance against others. We need to pray for the ability to forgive others when they irritate or provoke us and seek appropriate resolution to conflicts and ask for the grace to forgive. Anger divides so many relationships, especially when there is no resolution. Scripture says “Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun set on your anger, and do not leave room for the devil.” (Ephesians 4: 26-27.) Jesus is our model of meekness. When He was con-fronted, he not only didn’t respond, He prayed for his persecu-tors. Let us strive to be like Jesus.

Welcome to May – The month of Mary Flowers blooming, graduations, beginning plans for summer. A happy and busy time. Remember to thank God for all these hap-py times and for the beauty of flowers, plants and gardens burst-ing forth. Remember, too, that May is the month of the Rosary – pray to Mary for peace and health and respect for all people, of all ages, and all lifestyles. Respect for others also includes tak-ing good care of your health and being considerate of others by practicing good health habits.

Happy Mother’s Day!. National Women’s Health Week begins on Mother's Day each year. During this week, individuals, fami-lies, communities, and others work to help women learn how to achieve longer, healthier, and safer lives. Here are a few steps to take every day to live a safe and healthy life.

• Eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains every day.

• Limit foods and drinks high in calories, sugar, salt, fat, and alcohol.

• Eat a balanced diet to help keep a healthy weight The U.S. Dept. of HHS has some suggestions for celebrating the week including:

• Organize a lunchtime walk with your friends/coworkers or an evening walk with your neighbors. .

• Encourage everyone to stand at your next meeting. • Host a healthy potluck or lunchtime salad bar. • Start a friendly competition with friends/coworkers.

Track your steps, water intake, or other healthy activi-ties.

• Bring in lightweights you can use at your desk. • Turn on your favorite music and dance. • Sip on water instead of soda and sugary drinks. • Attend a fitness class.

To learn more regarding Women’s Health Week check the CDC website: http://www.cdc.gov/women/nwhw Parish nurse office hours are by appointment. Please call if you would like to come see me. Also, let us know if you or a family member is hospitalized or homebound and/or if you would like me to visit, pray with you and assist you with questions and health care concerns. Call or email me if you can help us with our Caring Neighbors ministry – volunteers are always welcome and needed! You may contact me at 636-8159x369 or via email [email protected].

Prayer Partners May Intention: That our Easter joy might be reflected in the witness of our lives as we answer the call to love our neighbor...That the kindness we extend to others will create a ripple of love and caring that spreads far beyond our circle of influence…That all mothers be blessed in their holy work of guiding their children in the way of faith and holiness.
