FROM THE EDITOR Thank you, Judith Laurentowski, for being
the editor of “The Stitcher’s Log” for the past four years! You did a great job and I’ll try to do as well.
My name is Margaret Barnett. I joined CICEGA in May 2018. I was introduced to the club by Eilene Stage. We were at a mutual friend’s house and somehow we started talking about cross stitch, and how much we both love it. The next thing I knew, she had invited me to a CICEGA meeting and I joined. Before that, I didn’t know such things as the Embroidery Guild existed. Thank you, Eilene!
Since I am still fairly new to Southern California, I’m hoping to make new friends. I still don’t know everyone in CICEGA, but I figured getting involved is the best way to get to know everyone.
I grew up in Anaheim. After college I moved to Oxnard and began teaching elementary school. I met my husband Craig and just as we were getting married he got transferred to Northern California. We were there from 1988 until I retired as a school/district administrator in June 2016, and we returned to Oxnard a few months later.
My mother and paternal grandmother both did embroidery, and I started doing that as a teen. I also sewed many of my own clothes. In high school I took a class called “Home Arts” and learned to knit, crochet, and cross stitch. For about the last 25 years all I’ve done is counted cross stitch. I’m looking forward to learning some new needle arts through CICEGA.
I have three adult stepsons, and they have five children between them. Then there is the “caboose,” our 23 year old daughter who just moved to Oregon to try and figure out her life’s purpose and direction.
In addition to needle arts, I love to read, to play the piano, to snow ski, and to walk along the beach.
That’s enough about me. In the next issue of “The Stitcher’s Log” I’d like to share information about one of you so the rest of us can get to know you better. Are there any volunteers? Margaret B., Newsletter Editor

FROM THE BRIDGE Happy New Year! Here’s to a happy, healthy and productive year. We are celebrating our 37th anniversary this month. Congratulations to all the members with milestone anniversaries this year. I have two pet projects for this year. First, I encourage everyone to enter a piece in the Shoreline Stitchers’ Showcase held on March 28 and 29 this year. The entry fee per piece is $10 and the entry paperwork has to be postmarked by February 29. The actual pieces can be dropped off at Mari B.’s home. To encourage participation by our members, I made a motion, approved by your Board, to draw two members’ names at random to reimburse them for their $10 entry fee. See the flyer and entry form in this newsletter. My second pet project is a Ventura County Fair display of our “Smalls.” The Fair designer/decorator promised me that she would set up a separate display of our entries “if” there were enough pieces to justify it. My goal is to have as many members as possible submit as many “small” entries as possible in the Needlework categories. If you made a new holiday ornament for yourself (or for someone else nearby that you can borrow it back from!), you are already ahead of the game. The fair entry deadline is July 19. MOTION ON THE TABLE
The following motion was made by Mari B. at the November Board meeting: “I, Mari B., move that the CICEGA chapter donate $100 for the needle Artist by the Sea (NAS) ANG chapter 2020 Shoreline Stitchers’ Showcase to help keep this local event operational.” The motion was seconded. According to our Bylaws a donation requires 30 days notice and a vote of the membership. We will be discussing and voting on this motion at the February general meeting.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
After a slight glitch, I delivered the following items to the maternity unity of Los Robles Hospital. They were very appreciative and told me how beautiful all of the baby items were. We donated 24 afghans, one quilt, five hats, three bibs, two sweaters, and 100 toiletry bags. Thank you so much for contributing to this project. We also sent 13 embroidery kits to the veterans’ organization that used them in the V.A. Hospital. Thank you for your donations. Arielle R., Community Outreach Chairperson

Scandinavian Festival at Cal Lutheran University: April 4-5. Please sign up at the next meeting for 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday the 4th or Sunday the 5th. Or both dates! Programs: January is our birthday month, so come for the cake courtesy of Ellen A.! Also, Sharon S. will give a brief presentation on how needlework judging is done. Don’t forget to bring in your UFO (unfinished object) challenge pieces whether you’ve finished them or not! Show off what you’ve accomplished and get your $5 back if you’ve completed your challenge piece! February is the Great Guilt Giveaway. This month will also be the start of the 2020 UFO challenge! Same rules as for 2019. Bring your UFO to share and your $5/piece entry fee.
Group Correspondence Course: The GCC “Frenzy of Fringes” will take the last sign-ups at the January meeting. A $58 text fee is required to sign up. The chapter will pay the course fee, so the only other expense to each student will be the materials used — and that is TBD. Louise P. will be the coordinator.
Mini-Groups: The mini-groups will start up again in January. We are alternating Fridays and Saturdays every month. The mini-groups will go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make sure you RSVP with the hostess for the month. Can’t make a Friday or Saturday mini-group but still want to chat and stitch? EGA PACIFIC SOUTHWEST REGION FALL MEETING
9 NOVEMBER 2019, TUCSON, AZ
Judy Neufeld, PSR Director, presented among other items, the following points:
• The NeedleArts magazine will have two projects per issue. National will pay designers.
• For hosting the National Seminar, all profits under $10,000 will go to the hosting chapter. Any profits between $10,000 and $20,000 will go to National. Any profits over $20,000 will be split 50%/50% between the hosting chapter and National.
• On January 5, 2020, the National website will have new videos.
• The National Seminar will be held in Boston in 2020; in Chicago in 2021; and in the Metropolitan Region (New Jersey/New York) in 2022.
• 2024 will be the next Bylaws revision for the PSR Chapters.
• At the 2020 National Seminar Golden Needles will be awarded for Designers and Stitchers. Included will be one for Best Original Design, etc. The current NeedleArts will have full information.
• In March 2020 National Headquarters will host an “Asian Exhibit” and is requesting ideas for a name. If interested, contact Gwen Nelson.
• The Region is preparing to send to all Chapter Membership Chairs the Yearly Project PDF. This will be provided free to all members.
Community Outreach: Community Outreach reports are due only once a year. Please send to Carol Stevenson. The Region wants to hear about the different areas the Chapters are doing stitch in public efforts. Chapters are attending Quilt and Craft Shows, crafting library bookmarks, making samplers for Habitats for Humanity, among others.
Education: Two new Group Correspondence Courses are in the works. The Region has Study Boxes for use by the Chapters, most of which need considerable updating to be usable. These could be very useful for teaching. It was agreed that two boxes will be brought to the next meeting, to see if Chapters would be interested in checking them out and updating them.
Jan Jellins Collection: Five pieces have been sold. The remainders are still available for the next year at very reasonable prices. Pictures are on the website.
The Spring PSR meeting will be hosted by Torrey Pines, but there is no date yet. Azure Verde will host the Fall meeting, 17 October, 2020. The Spring 2021 meeting will be held after the Region Seminar in Las Vegas, NV.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month, January through October. The November/December meeting is held the first Wednesday of December. The meetings are held at Camarillo United Methodist Church, 291 Anacapa Drive, Camarillo, CA, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. In addition to the business meeting, there is usually a program such as a workshop demonstration, lecture, or slide show. Bring something to stitch. Social with treat 9:30 am – 10:00 am.

BOARD MEETINGS are held on the second Wednesday of every other month at 10:00 am in the home of the president. Any member may attend. Please call the president in advance. MINI GROUP MEETINGS are an informal get together held in members’ homes and other meeting places where you can stitch, exchange ideas and hints, and get better acquainted. For information on the various groups, call the Mini Group Liaison. ACTIVITIES – In addition to meetings, the Chapter sponsors workshops, tours, lectures, etc. Philanthropy projects are many and varied. NAMETAG – Each member is to stitch a nametag, including her first and last name, to be worn at meetings. If you are not wearing your nametag, you are subject to a $.25 fine. New members have a six-month leeway. SHARING NEWSLETTERS: Other newsletters should be mailed to Channel Islands Chapter, EGA, P. O. Box 1675, Camarillo, CA 93011-1675. The newsletter is printed bi-monthly. REPRINT PRIVILEGES are granted to all EGA Chapters for all non-copyrighted material contained in this newsletter.
