My inspiration comes from what I see as the effects of time and weathering on the world around me. I consider myself a builder. My paintings begin with a foundation and then I build each piece by layering and reworking surfaces until I come to something that is texturally satisfying and visually pleasing. I use a variety of material from traditional oils, acrylics, and wax to found items and repurposed tools. Each piece is an exploration or a journey through time.

I spent some time in the Middle East studying ancient civilizations and was fascinated by the “tels” or mounds that contained layers of remains of cities that have been eroded and then built on top of. This process of building up and eroding naturally creates sensual textures and colors and it is this process that I have tried to duplicate in my current body of work, using a wide variety of materials from traditional and non-traditional sources.
