and may always be their round-cut Fleer Gold Medallion variant. Over the years, I managed to the find the Gold Medallions for Summer Erb and later as shown above Umeki Webb, Rhonda Map, and Chastity Melvin.

Cowher, Kaye (Young, Kaye)

Kaye Young graduated from Peace College about 1976 and later NCSU in 1978 with a B.A. in Sociology. Kaye and Faye Young are twins and both played hoops for Coach Yow. Those Lady Pack teams were ranked as high as #3 nationwide, scored an ACC Title in the first year it was offered in Women's basketball, the seasons with records of 21-3 and 29-5. In the inaugural year of the Women's Basketball League (the precursor conference to the modern WNBA), Kaye played with the New York Stars at first and later with the New Jersey Gems. She was a star in the WBL's first All-Star game. Kaye and Faye are sometimes recognized as the "Dannon Yogurt Twins" for a series of ads showing the two blonde twins enjoying the popular snack. The two ladies also appears in a Wrigley's Doublemint Gum commercial. I recommend Karra Porter's book Mad Seasons for a history of how the sisters and other players were involved in early marketing of the new league.

Kaye's three cards are from the 1992 Proline Portraits series covering a number of NFL coach's wives. The base card is easy to find but the National Convention card (embossed edge) and authographed card (also embossed edge) are more collectible. The two Cowhers are to my knowledge the only married Pack alums each with their own professional sports card.

Kaye was a member today of the NCSU Board of Visitors and was active in a good many charitable causes. Kaye lost her life to skin cancer on July 23, 2010 at age 54. There are many online articles and obituaries one of the most informative ishttp://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10204/1075087-100.stm

This is Kaye's Pro Line "wives card" along with one of the Bill's SkyBox issues. There are three versions of her Pro Line: 1) regular, 2) National Convention (corner embossed), and 3) autographed (corner embossed). We have never found a copy of version 2 so perhaps the coach wife cards did not have this version as did most of the other Pro Lines that year? In theory it exists because the Beckett database includes that variant listing. That said, years of searching auction sites and the Beckett Marketplace itself has never given us a sniff of one.

Her auto Pro Line will be precious to any Wolfpack fan. Be sure the card you buy shows the corner embossing to denote the card was an original release and not a fake based on the original, unstamped card.

It took many years before I could find this rare Gold Medallion version of Summer Erb's Fleer Ultra card. These are extremely scarce. The top is round cut.

Her 2000 Fleer Ultra Gold Medallion is another good item for any Lady Pack collection, nearly impossible to find graded.

Stinson, Andrea

Ms. Stinson's cards are the largest and most expensive set of issues for the Lady Wolfpack but remain with better market prices than lesser known alums (July 2010).

The WNBA Attitude cards were inserts and more expensive than regular issues, all of them nicely foiled. The Gold Medallion Ultra card (right) remains a solid choice for any Pack alum collector. A better of the Attitude card follows:

This card was offered on ebay some time ago. It should be regarded as one of her rarest cards.

Stinson Mint 10 cards are scarce and still highly priced. Mint 8 or 9 cards are still available and worth adding to any 'Pack collection.

This is a very nice card not only for the foiling but the fun, post-game victory phone. Very nice photo.Yow, KayCoach Yow's cards have always been very scarce compared to Coach Valvano or Case. She signed a good deal of memorabilia but over the last 28 years, very very few of her official cards.

This is easily in my Top 5 of all my treasures in more than three decades of collecting thousands of NCSU cards. It may be #1 in fact. It is from a solid dealer and the sig with the Bible verse is absolutely typical of Kay in all details. The reverse is shown below.
