The Spring Project brings a new dancer training

weekend, new classes, lectures and talks together with

development and performance opportunities for aspiring and

graduate dancers.

Encouraging and challenging dancers and physical

performers to fulfil their unique potential. Offering access to

high level training in a safe, happy and stimulating

environment from which to express and expand.

3 days of intensive training in contemporary dance, partnering

and choreography.

Open to dancers, movement practitioners and physical performers

wishing to develop new skills and deepen their practice. 3 full time days, 3 technique classes a day working with Ruth Mills

and visiting lecturers on building skill, creativity and performance

confidence.

COURSE CONTENT

CONTEMPORARY

MILLS TECHNIQUE

Based on the fundamentals of

dance kinesiology, movement

analysis and a solid technical

foundation informed by Martha

Graham technique.

RELEASE

Focusing on the breath, skeletal

alignment, joint articulation and

the release of muscular tension.

Harnessing the power of gravity

and momentum to facilitate

breath taking, dynamic

movement.

DUETS AND PARTNERING

Lifts and falls.

Using the principles found in

contemporary, classical

techniques and sports acrobatics

to equip the dancer with skillful

lifts and drops, opening up the

wonderful world of aerial lifts for

choreographic play.

Trust

One of the most valuable tools in duet choreography is to work with a rolling

point of contact, counter balancing, weight giving / resisting and most of all,

trust. Found in many dance forms from salsa to contact improvisation, these

PERFORM

The weekend will finish with an informal afternoon of music, and refreshments

for an invited audience, friends and family, beginning with a new lecture

performance by Ruth Mills and Dr Lucy Weir and followed by performances of

duets made during the course.

Back together to delve in to the ever entertaining depths of contemporary dance

history.

Upon the centenary of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, Ruth and Lucy visualise a

journey into their favourite subject through the eyes of four pioneering

choreographers. Nijinski, Wigman, Graham and Bausch. With new solo ‘The

Sacraficial Virgin’choreographed by Ruth Mills.

A new class for physical practitioners wishing to add a bit of acro to their skills.

Ideal class for dancers, traceurs and martial arts practitioners.

AUDITIONS

Graduate Placement.

Currently seeking a recent graduate dancer for a project placement in summer

2013.

An opportunity to join the company in the development of new work due to

premier in Autumn 2013. Placement is for one month from early July.

Audition is on Saturday 4th May 2013 : by invite only.

Glasgow Community Dance Theatre

Audition : Saturday 20th April 2013 2pm – 5pm.

Development opportunity for aspiring dancers and dance makers who wish to gain deeper training and performance experience. The company will meet weekly, under the direction of Ruth Mills. “ I don’t expect high levels of technique on auditioning, this is about nurturing

and offering opportunity to access high level training and quality professional

performance. we are an ever expanding family with a passion for education in

arts and performance. “

ABOUT RUTH MILLS

Ruth trained at London Contemporary Dance

School, gaining a BA (HONS) in contemporary

dance and choreography. She has toured

extensively as a dancer and performer both

nationally and internationally. She has built a

strong reputation as a teacher and lecturer in

core dance technique, movement analysis and

movement training for actors.

Ruth has been Guest Director to Royal

Conservatoire of Scotland, Lecturing in

contemporary dance and movement for actors

with Universities and Colleges including, Scottish

School of Contemporary Dance, Royal

Conservatoire of Scotland, GAMTA, and Dundee College. She has appeared as

a guest speaker at University of Glasgow and Glasgow School of Art, and

collaborated on several performance projects with Dr Peter Lovatt, The Dance

Lab, University of Hertfordshire.

Dedicated to dance and theatre in all its forms and for all people.

Ruth Mills engages the skills and passion of exceptional dancers, actors,

musicians and artists in the creation of communicative and highly stimulating

theatre. Both challenging and embracing audiences with a unique visual

aesthetic teamed with a deep rooted belief in humanity, compassion and

solidarity.

Ruth teams an expert knowledge in dance and movement with a passion for

new music and film. Presenting highly visual works which also extend out of the

theatre in to film and alternative music video. She has built a growing

reputation as a movement director and choreographer in theatre and creator of

highly communicative dance theatre.
