Dear Regional Club:
As you know the National Specialty is fastapproaching and your support is needed. Asmembers struggle with the rising cost of gasand expenses, it is so important to supportyour members in their quest to attend theNational specialty and see the best dogs in thecountry compete in all events. Membersattending the National get to experience oureducational seminars, meet exhibitors theyonly hear about online or in the Spotter.Friendships are made and lifetime experiencesare forever treasured. We have a spectacularspecialty planned with many free perks for theattendees. Please consider sponsoring atrophy for the National and supporting thosethat travel and show their dogs in breed, obedience, rally, agility and especially thosethat compete in the Road Trial--our dogs'special event!
Every club should consider this important giftas a way to support our breed. Regardless ofwhat your event may be, your opinion aboutissues or other's opinions, supporting our breedand making sure that we present them in thebest manner is our ultimate goal. Whether wewin or lose, we all love our dogs and thenational is a place to share that mutualadmiration with others. In past years we havedone many things to raise funds for theNational - making regional baskets, sendingauction items, or selling chances for a freetrip. Your club need not worry about doingany of that, just go to our website and choosean open trophy:http://www.dcanational.com/2012/TrophyList.pdf
Once you make a choice from the trophiesavailable (Juniors, Rally, Obed. and Agilityespecially need sponsors) then go tohttp://www.dcanational.com/2012/2012index.html
and place your order. Toni does a wonderfuljob coordinating your purchases. In yearspast, our club was always sure to sponsor atrophy and so were many other clubs. Weneed to go back to that support and assist ourNational in being a show that we all love toattend and try to take some of the burden offof the individual.
Alone we can do so little; together we can doso much.Helen Keller
Help present our breed in the best possiblelight! Support your new members, oldmembers and entice future members.Trophies can be in memory or honor of anyperson or dog you want, or simply from yoursupportive regional club. Earn the respect ofexhibitors in that your club steps up to supportthe National Specialty and exhibitors fromeverywhere. Anyone can sponsor, and whatbetter way to pay tribute.
Also, don't forget that catalog ADS are due toAngie Henderson by March 30th. Advertiseyour specialty show and the good things yourclub does during the year. The ads are largeand there is room for all your members to bein a picture! Where else will you reach thepeople that you know will travel to yourshow? Many thanks to the clubs that haveresponded, you are awesome!

Dirty Secrets of dog ownership
Below are some dirty secrets that come with owning a dog. These were tested by Maureen Kochan and reportedin the March 2012 issue of Dog Fancy. These tips were taken from Marc Morrone and Joey Green of LosAngeles, author of Joey Green's Amazing Pet Cures: 1,138 Simple Pet Remedies Using Everyday Brand-NameProducts (Rodale, 2011).
Dirty Secret No. 1. Toenail scratches on the hardwood floor. Green's Advice: Mix one teaspoon instant coffeewith a little warm water until it forms a thick paste. Dip a cloth in the paste and wipe the mixture into scratchesuntil you achieve the desired hue.The Verdict: The scratches are definitely less noticeable, but still there. However, I think I'm the only one whonotices them now. For deep gouges, repair with wood filler in the right color or a stainable filler to match.Refinish with a coat of varnish.
Dirty Secret No. 2 Stink cloud of dog odor when I turn on the vacuum. Morrone's Advice: Add a tablespoon ofbaking soda to the vacuum bag or canister. You can also sprinkle some baking soda on the floor and vacuum itup, although I had better results dumping the baking soda straight into the bag.The Verdict: No more holding my nose when I turn on the vacuum.
Stay tuned to the next issue of The Spotted Dog for more dirty secrets!
Did you know … that the English word "dog" comes from the Old English "docga," which is most likely derivedfrom the Proto-Germanic "dukkon," a word signifying strength? The association of dogs with physical mightmakes sense, given the dog's position as the first animal domesticated by humans. "Docga" also incorporatesthe diminutive –ga that was a component of many animal names in Old English, including "picga" (pig) and"frogga" (frog).
Band of Brothers
Wilber (owned by the JamesFamily) and Arlo (owned byNan Dittrick) are brothers whoare showing off their greatmarkings!
