Active Years: 1994–20002007–2008

MEMBERS: Victoria Beckham Melanie BrownEmma BuntonMelanie Chisholm Geri Halliwell.

Debut single: "Wannabe" in 1996, which hit number-one in more than 30 countries and helped establish the group as a "global phenomenon".

Their appearance changed drastically through the time they were apart.

6 years after the group broke up the individual Spice Girls were seeing their own success as entertainment figures begin. However, judging by the instant public interest, fans were ready for any news of a reunion.

The girls have grown into mature ladies from the young girls they started at.

All are now mothers and have families to look after

Right from the word go, the Spice Girls style, image and brash stage persona set them apart from any other group that had ever appeared on the pop scene: their motto was “Girl Power” , and they reminded the record-buying public of it constantly

The girls image constantly changed from fashion to hair, weight and even plastic surgery.

Their attitudes changed also as family became more important and the band went their separate ways.

Albums

1. 1997 This album was the first for the girls. It shows their name and the girls themselves promoting them as a new band and their music. The posture from

Victoria in this picture shows her ‘Posh’ title

The colouring of the letter around Emma is pink linking the ‘Baby’ image

The pose made here by Melanie shows her ‘Sporty’ style as it is an action shot of her punching.

Gerri is ‘Ginger’ spice so they have made sure her hair is in full view and picked a background that fits .

Mel B is ‘Scary’ Spice and her wild expression is used to portray that image along with the cat style suit.

2. 1997

This album was their second hit, carrying on the same theme by the girls being inside the letters however they are more cartoon-like adding something different and stand out.

Full image of her in a more revealing outfit making her stand out as ‘Scary’ along with her wild hair.

Geri’s hair again prominent here showing her bubbly character as not afraid of what is being worn.

Her action of her arm shows her gentle ‘Baby’ side

Her action shot here and the way you can see the ‘Sporty’ clothes being worn gives her contribution to the group.

Her elegant figure and type of dress shows her ‘Posh’ side.

The girls are shown much more in this album through the use of their whole figures on show. The cartoon style adds effect as we can still work out who they are being popular icons of the time.

3. 2000

This album changes from the last two as it shows the girls now promoting that they are a 4 member band and not 5.

The use of the girls all holding hands adds to the idea of union, that even though they have lost a member of the band they are still strong, helped by the title ‘Forever’

Her large smile but more simplicity shows her change at this time

Her posture and pout still shows her ‘Posh’ title

Her hair change from long bright ginger shows some sort of maturity as times have changed

Emma still has her sweet charms of ‘Baby’ Spice but with more maturity and elegance

4. 2007

This album is just showing the greatest hits made by the girls. No images of them needed as they so well known only need to promote songs.

This album being their greatest hits is more used to promote the reunion tour the girls performed now that they are much older and been separated for many years. Being one of the largest girl bands of all time their image doesn't need to be discovered through the album cover. The jewels effect is enough to show the importance and elegance of the girls.

Reviews of the girls and their show

• The Sun: Fans of all ages made the trip to the Dome to see the girls in action, including several girls dressed in Geri's infamous Union Jack dress.

• The Times: Of course, in Spiceworld, the usual rules of commerce and music - quality control, the faintest ability to sing, value for money - don't apply.

• The Guardian: For all the displays of hand-holding unity, there's no doubt who the star of the show is. Whenever Victoria Beckham lifts her microphone to her lips, she is drowned out by an excited roar from the audience.

• Daily Telegraph: Although the singing was weak and often inaudible and the dancing less endearingly exuberant than in the old days, 16,000 fans screamed and hollered through the two-hour show which included all 10 hit singles and solo turns from each of the girls except Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, who opted for a catwalk strut to the beat of Madonna's Like a Virgin.

The girls still have their individual images 10 years on during their performances

2007:One of the most successful solo musical careers of all of the Spice Girls with 7 Top 10 pop singles in the UK. She is also a familiar television personality particularly due to appearances on the comedy show Absolutely Fabulous.

1999:Melanie Chisholm received her nickname due to her tendency to wear tracksuits, and, according to the press, a tomboyish look and attitude. She headed toward a solo career in 1998 recording a duet with Canadian singer Bryan Adams

Music Changes • The most recent song from the girls is ‘Headlines (friendship never ends)’

wish they bought out and made a video for in 2007. This was when the band had reformed and the song was much more mellow with harmony, much more relaxed, low key and you could say mature in large contrast from the upbeat more dance hits they had during the early years of their career.

• This shows how they have matured. If we look at the video for it, they don’t do any dancing they are quite stationary and elegant just the projection of their voices is enough. Whereas videos like ‘Wannabe’ and ‘Spice up your life’ are full of dance routines and bubbly characters bringing out that young new life they had when they were in their prime time of fame. Those videos therefore were much more dominant in performance.

• Although the girls have grown up and matured they still remain well know for their individual titles: ‘Posh’ ‘Baby’ Sporty’ ‘Scary’ and ‘Ginger’ when performing on stage. They are still hugely known for their ‘Girl Power’ era with the comeback reunion they did which sold out within around 32seconds.

• However their appearances have changed through their fashion, hair, make up, figures and lifestyles as they all now have families and different career opportunities. Their music has changed because the last piece they made was more of a ballard compared to their dance upbeat music in the past.

• They have and I feel always will be looked at for the contrast in the band. They will always be known as ‘The Spice Girls’ for4 what they bought to music.
