Montreal Series Concerts

• Offer a refined musical experience to your members and your clients with an Arion Baroque Orchestra Montreal Series concert at the Bougie Concert Hall of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Arion performs works of baroque music (Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, etc.) and early classical period (Haydn, Mozart, etc.) on period instruments with authenticity, drive and passion.

• Concerts take place on Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 4pm and Sundays at 2pm. New this year, the Premiere Series offers a one-hour concert on Wednesday or Thursday at 7:30pm (see details below).

• Arion concerts are presented in an exceptional urban and architectural context in the heart of the city near Crescent and Bishop streets, well known for their vibrant nightlife. Part of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and built in a former church, the Hall is composed of 20 Tiffany windows.

• Offer your clients a more complete experience with one of our partners. We offer packages including dinner in a renowned restaurant or a quick bite in a fine pastry shop.

• The Premiere Series is ideal for a short cultural evening. Without intermission, these one-hour concerts offer special contact with musicians and the conductor who will provide brief commentary on each piece. • Choose among the following concerts : Cafés & jardins en musique, Opéras sans paroles... ou presque!, Les plaisirs! and Musiques au parfum français.

Arion in a Few Words

An Authentic Musical Experience Since its creation in 1981 in Montreal, Arion has tapped into the creative energies of Baroque composers like Bach and Vivaldi by performing their works on period instruments, thus rediscovering all the original sparkle of these masterpieces. Thanks to the vision of Claire Guimond, Artistic Director, the Orchestra is a cornerstone in the world of early music on period instruments in Quebec and internationally.

5 Concerts, 5 Guest Conductors : The Spectacular at Your Fingertips ! Each concert in the Montreal Series presents a unique musical universe, celebrated by an internationally renowned guest conductor, selected for his sensitivity towards a chosen repertoire. Arion has received many prizes and awards. The orchestra has appeared many times across Quebec, Canada, U.S.A., Mexico, Asia and Europe. The impressive discography of 30 discs is distributed by domestic and international networks, both in store and online.

A Unique Concert Hall Arion concerts are presented in an exceptional urban and architectural context. The Bourgie Hall is in a former chruch of Erskine and American heritage. The nave of the church has been restored and transformed to become a concert hall of 463 seats enjoying great sound quality and an exceptional decor with 20 Tiffany windows. The Hall possesses the biggest collection of Tiffany windows in Canada.

Works by Haydn and Mozart

Opera in the 18th century had firmly established the primacy of the voice, a fact that will be eloquently recalled by Andréanne Brisson Paquin’s shimmering and expressive voice. But another protagonist made its mark in the Classical Period: the clarinet, an instrument of rich colors and subtle dynamics. And Lorenzo Coppola is one of its greatest devotees in all its historical guises. Soprano and clarinets will share the stage, around one of Haydn’s most rousing symphonies.

Just how stimulating concerts in the gardens and coffeehouses of Baroque Germany could have been transpires in J.S. Bach’s delicious and humorous miniature quasi opera, his Coffee Cantata. Like today, such events were sociable occasions to enjoy musical works so fresh their ink wasn’t yet dry, or else foreign compositions sometimes arranged for the forces at hand. So savour the moment!

For the first time in Montreal with Arion, the captivating Brazilian/British violinist Rodolfo Richter will lead a program of masterpieces by Rebel, De Lalande, and Rameau, testifying to the French musical genius filled with that grace, grandeur, and solemnity which so inspired the German composer Telemann.

Works by Vivaldi

Vivaldi, master and model of invention, inspired over a half-century of European music with his first published set of concertos for one, two, and four violins: L’Estro Armonico. A generous offering from this Opus 3 by the famous Venetian composer, and a sprinkling of his flute concertos, is offered by Arion and the imaginative Italian violinist Enrico Onofri.
