Turn In Your Gun Campaign:
SUPPORT THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Over 90 guns were turned in on Saturday,
November 13, 2010 during the most recent
Turn In Your Gun Campaign. Major
partners this year included Senator
Anthony Williams and the University
of Pennsylvania Hospital (Penn Medicine),
who provided financial and in-kind
services. Many hand guns were turned in,
including 45 calibers, 9 mm., 357, and
several sawed-off shot guns.
The SWCAG, 12th Police District,
YOACAP, and Power 99 FM continue to
work together to reduce violence in our
neighborhoods. Councilwoman Jannie
Blackwell, State Representative Kenyatta
Johnson, and staff from Senator Williams’s
office came past. Among the latter were
Donald Cave and Ali Robinson, who
remained throughout the entire event to
show support and lend a helpful hand.
The next Turn In Your Gun Campaign is scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2010 at
Chew Playground (1800 Ellsworth Street) in South Philadelphia. Major partners for this
event are State Representative Kenyatta Johnson (Peace Not Guns), the University of
Pennsylvania (Penn Medicine), and the Laborers’ District Council – Local 332.
From left: Senator Anthony Williams’s staff, Donald Cave &
son and Ali Robinson (back); SWCAG’s President Marsha
Wall and Vice President, Dr. Cassandra Graves; and long-
standing SWCAG members Hanna Bryant, Andre Crews,
and Woody Beale pose after the November 13th event at
Kingsessing Recreation Center. The SWCAG presented
Woody with an appreciation award and watch. Others not in
this picture, but present at the event were Officer Joe Young,
Constance Crews, Miracle Moore (Marsha Moore’s
daughter), Clayton Dendy, Roger Wilkerson, Carl Burman,
Rasheen Crews, and Nathaniel Lee. A special thanks to all
SWCAG members for their hard work and dedication.
WE LOVE YOU, MS. MARSHA
As many
residents may know,
our beloved Marsha
Moore was attacked
in her home a few
weeks ago.
For many years,
Mrs. Moore has
sacrificed her life to
help others. Why
someone would intentionally hurt her is
hard to understand. We are asking
everyone to pray for Mrs. Moore and her
family. She needs our support as she
recovers. Cards or support for the Moore
Family should be mailed to the 12th Police
District, attention to Officer Joseph Young.

WALKING THE WALK By Nathaniel Lee
State Senator Anthony
Hardy Williams recently held
his 10th Annual “Walking the
Walk” Walk and Fitness Fair
at Laura Sims Playground
located at 63rd & Walnut Sts.
in West Phila. The event began
at about 8 a.m. with a brisk
stretching session where the
Senator energized participants
with jokes and accolades. The Senator’s wife and mother were
also in attendance supporting the many constituents from
Philadelphia and surrounding areas (Darby & Yeadon).
The walk, the brainchild of the Senator who battled with his
own health problems, was conceived to help others physically
transform themselves and improve their general health. The
Southwest Community Advisory Community Group (SWCAG)
was well represented as President Marsha Wall, Vice President,
Cassandra Graves, and several other members (Clayton Dendy,
Rasheen Crews, Nathaniel Lee,) walked in support of the
Senator’s Efforts. Duerward Beale, Executive Director of
YOACAP, along with State Representatives Kenyatta Johnson
and Ronald G. Waters, walked the 3.1 mile course that looped
in and around Cobbs Creek Parkway into the county and back
into Philadelphia. The event was not only an opportunity to
learn about health and fitness, but served as an opportunity for
members of the community to unite and fellowship while
exercising, walking, line dancing, and mingling in vendors area.

Crews, Dr. Cassandra Graves, and
