Important Dates
From Our Principal
Last month we took time to celebrate our grandparents, and what a great
night it was. Grandparents are very special at Crosswind, and we appreci-
ate their support.
Our annual Turkey Trot was September 26. There was a rainbow of col-
ors walking, running and jogging around our bus loop for this annual
event. This was a wonderful way for our parents and community to come
together to raise needed funds for the enhancement and advancement of
the school’s instructional programs. Funds generated from this year’s
Turkey Trot have been earmarked to update technology and to enhance our curriculum. Please keep in
mind that this is the only fundraiser to help our school continue soaring to excellence. Collect those
pledges!
Crosswind continues to appreciate the volunteer efforts by our parents. Thank you for the time given to
ensure that our students are assisted in so many ways. If you would like to volunteer to help with our
tutoring program, please contact Mrs. Sean Johnson, PTA volunteer chairperson. She will assign you to
a classroom and get you started in assisting our children.
The mission of Crosswind Elementary School is to provide each student with exceptional learning op-
portunities that result in academic proficiency and advancement necessary to prepare them for future
challenges.
The vision of Crosswind Elementary is to create an enriched environment for all stakeholders and to
provide students with optimal academic experiences as well as life skills to become productive and re-
sponsible citizens in our global society.
As part of a new school system, it is important to continue to improve our school environment and have
students, teachers and parents all working together to make this the best school it can be. Therefore, we
ask that you get involved in the PTA. Joining the PTA benefits your child. Here are a few advantages to
joining PTA.
Involvement - know what is happening at your child’s school.
Resources - programs that are designed for parents.
Networking - share your ideas, concerns and experiences.
Growth - put your skills to good use.
Improvement – be part of the solution and help make positive changes.
Modeling - be a role model for your child and let them know that education is important.
Parents, please continue to help our school’s Box Top program as we try to reach our school goal by the
Fall deadline. Each class has a box top parent assigned, and questions should be directed to them. Keep
sending in those Box Tops!
Also, we want to thank all the parents who have registered their Kroger card to support our school.
Remember, every time you use your Kroger card, Crosswind will receive a percentage of your purchase.
Every penny counts!
Thanks for all you do to make Crosswind a Great school!

Message From The PTA President www.crosswindpta.weebly.com
Turkey Trot 22 is now in the history books and words
can’t describe what a great day it was. I am so thank-
ful to so many people who made this possible. Thank
you so much to all of the dads and moms who came
out at 6:30 am to set up and who came back at 1:45 to
clean up after this event. This day would not have
happened without you giving up some early morning
time to get the course ready. Of course, they were led
by our fearless setup leader, Todd Farris, who keeps coming back eve-
ry year to take care of this job. To the PTA board, who came and
filled in where needed all day, I cannot thank you enough. You are a
great group of ladies who make our PTA such a great organization to
be a part of. To the room parents who came in and prepared your
classrooms for the run and took care of them afterward, thank you for
the extra time that you gave to help. Saving the best for last, our ways
and means chair, Shenika Williams, I cannot thank you enough for all
of your hard work to make our Turkey Trot a huge success. Keep
sending in your pledge money, our Turkey Trot Awards Ceremony on
Nov 14th.
Muffins with Mom was a huge success. It is our annual event for our
children to come in early and enjoy a muffin breakfast with their moms
or significant women in their lives.
November will be here before you know it and will bring our Turkey
Trot Awards Ceremony. If you have never been to one, you are in for
a real treat. Not only will it feature several area mascots, we will have
a special show from our Crosswind Dancers. It is definitely a treat that
you will not want to miss!
Parents, thank you again for making our Turkey Trot such a wonderful
day. Remember it is now only days until Christmas! (It will be here
before we know it!)
Proud to be an Eagle!

IN ANTICIPATION OF THE
HOLIDAY SEASON...
Thank you Crosswind! We received an amazing amount of food
donations Collierville Food Pantry, for which they were very
grateful. A reminder notice will be sent home the Tuesday
before our next donation event. With the holiday season fast
approaching, we would like to try and help out those in need by
hosting two food drives in the month of November.
KID TIP: Taking your children to pick out a couple of their
favorite canned items to donate is a great way to get them in-
volved and to celebrate the joy of giving that is a huge part of
the Season.
Also during the holiday season, in keeping with Crosswind tra-
dition, we will be holding our annual Cookie Swap on Thursday,
December 4th. Please mark the date on your calendars if you
would like to help out and say thank you to the faculty, staff, and
those in the community who support Crosswind, including our
Mayor, Aldermen, newsletter sponsors and the corporate spon-
sors of the Turkey Trot. More information will arrive in No-
vember regarding ways that you and your children can get in-
volved in this wonderful tradition.

HEALTH AND SAFETY Thanks to the donation of time and materials from our community, we had a very successful Red Ribbon Week! A few highlights from the week…
On Sunday, Lowe’s employees dug holes for us to ready the flower beds for the planting of over 750 daffodil bulbs. On Monday, with the help of our Crosswind room parents and the Collierville High FFA Club, every student at Crosswind "Planted the Promise", pledging to love themselves and remain drug free. We could not have ac-complished this project without the generous donation by Lowe's of both time and materials- thank you! Be sure to check out the outdoor classroom this spring when all of the flowers are in bloom and remind your child of their promise.
Throughout the week, students came to school dressed in an array of clever and fun outfits. It was great to see them express their creativity and get involved in the week's mo-tifs! On Thursday, with the kids dressed as community helpers, real community helpers joined them at lunch time to hand out wristbands and remind the kids to make healthy choices. Special visitors included members of the Collierville Police, Collierville Board of Mayor and Alder-men, Collierville School Board, and Collierville Li-brary. We truly appreciate them taking the time out of their busy schedule to interact with our students.
We hope the students enjoyed the weeks activities and learned something along the way too!
