Transcript of The Slideshow #5
A beautiful sunny Sunday. I had a head full of cold I was in a bad mood. But, I had new gloves, a new hood, and I really wanted to go for a surf!

Arriving at Godrevy, 2ft and HOWLING off shore winds. I battled my way down the beach against the wind with a crew and our collection of surf craft.
OFFSHORE HOWLERS
Photo: Gemma Chalmers
Paddled out, getting rained on by every passing wave sending a heavy shower of spray off the back. I LOVE that. I love seeing the rainbows through it. First wave, a little left hand beauty. INSTANT mood uplifter! So worth getting in. Sinuses clear. I could breath again! Second wave, didn’t get to my feet, rode lying down along the clean right hand wall. Everyone around me getting waves all over the place. Longboards, bodyboards, shortboards, handplanes! Great fun little session!

1. What is your personal favourite board/craft on which to ride waves?
2. What is your most memorable moment or session using it?
Send us your favourite image of it. Write couple of sentences about it -and we’ll share it with The Slideshow readers!
BOARD MATTERStell us about your favourite board.
I like this surf board
better then my old
boring white board, as
it has multi-coloured
splats of paint. This
makes it more funky.
When I was surfing in
Carmen (Costa Rica)
a Pelican de-cided to dive down for its break-fast right next to me,
it was really scary -
but funny. This was my
most memorable moment so
far.
My favourite surf board
is made by Luke Hart,
5’8 x 20 x 2’ 7/16.
Kai Thomas, 11 yrs, Coast Rica
MY BOARD IS A 8’ MINI LONGBOARD. IT HAS A CLASSIC OUTLINE, A ROUND TAIL AND I USE IT WITH SINGLE FIN. IT’S BEEN HAND SHAPED BY AN ITALIAN SHAPER. I LOVE BEING CLASSIC!
I HAD A LOT OF MEMORABLE MOMENTS WITH MY BOARD. I ALWAYS HAVE FUN WITH SMALL AND GLASSY WAVES. BUT THE FIRST EPISODE THAT COMES TO MY MIND IS ONE DAY IN PORTUGAL. WAVES WERE A LITTLE BIT BIGGER AND TIDE WAS PICKING UP. I WAS HAVING SO MUCH FUN BECAUSE THE WALLS WERE GETTING BIGGER AND I FELT THE ADRENALINE COMING. BUT ANYWAY I DECIDED TO END UP MY SESSION BEFORE BREAKING MY BOARD ON THE SHORE!

GUARDIANS OF THE SEA
During a trip to Rome for the Liquid Vision Retro Surf Meeting, Surfragette blogger Marta Tomasini had the pleasure of meeting a militant of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Italy, who was fund-raising for the organisation. Valentina, 29 years old, explained the goals of the organisation and the importance of their latest action...

“SSCS deals with protecting marine species in risk of extinction. In particular it’s committed to fighting against Whaling, illegally done in Japan behind the “scientific research” mask for too much time now. But whales are not the only ones to be saved. In fact every year dolphin slaughter happens in Taiji (Japan), almost unknown until the movie “The Cove” and Sea Shepherd’s pictures (published in 2003) became popular.
The few dolphins that don’t end up being meat in supermarkets, are condemned to a suffering life in some dolphinariums. There are no international laws dealing with small ce-taceans’ defence, or they’ve been ignored, and this allows their free murder.
SSCS’s volunteers, nicknamed “Bay guardians”, are committed to the “Infinite Patience” campaign trying to stop these murders and they keep the world updated about this massacre every day. (http://www.seashepherd.it/cove-guardians/cove-guardian-reports/)
Moreover SSCS is committed in Galapa-gos Islands in different fields such as the marine reserve patrolling to stop illegal fishing and suppress-ing “shark finning” activity. Last but not least, we can’t forget the other big cam-paign dealing with the defense of seals - fur market victims”.

COSTA RICA:TIPS
DO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT WAX, TROPICAL IS BEST. / IT’S A GOOD PLACE TO TRY OUT A SHORT BOARD. BECAUSE THE WAVES ARE AMAZING AND POWERFUL. / IT’S BEST TO SURF IN THE MORNING AND LATE AFTERNOON WHEN IT’S NOT SUNNY. / THE WAVES ARE BEST AT THESE TIMES AND I PREFER HIGH TIDE BECAUSE IT’S LESS DUMPY. / DON’T PUT TOO MUCH SUN CREAM ON YOUR TUMMY BEFORE YOU GO SURFING. / IT WILL GO ON YOUR WAX AND YOU MIGHT SLIP OFF A PERFECT WAVE. / IT’S BEST NOT TO SURF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY BECAUSE IT’S REALLY SUNNY, HOT AND WINDY.
