The title sequence to The sixth sense is different to most of the other film sequences as it s does not start with a footage of anything but starts with all of the titles first, this is important as it is different, the black and white colour scheme is used for the black to represent danger and more importantly death and the white to maybe hint at the inclusion of the supernatural or it could be used to represent the pure and innocent, if this was used to represent the pure and innocent the ratio between black and white is of major importance as it seems as if the black is taking over the white and the black seems to be more powerful then the white. This title sequence is also a great example of the hierarchy system employed by most other film title sequences as you can clearly see the main star (a recognisable name) coming first and then the title of the film and then the lesser actors ECT. The title sequence to the sixth sense also uses non diagetic sound very well, the slow eerie instrumental creates tension and anxiety it also gives the audience an indication of what the genre of the film is going to be (tied in with the use of colour) thriller/horror The instrumental also has climax points, points where the sound really shrieks and becomes high pitched this was used when the title of the movie came up on the screen this was used to scare the audience and also to highlight the importance of the title of the film. When footage actually appears on screen a full 3 minutes after the credits it starts with a long shot of a women from behind what seems to be a shelf this is significant as the women is coming out of darkness and coming toward the camera it almost seems with this shot as there is minimal camera movement that we are watching her surveying her and she does not know we are there. We also see a medium shot of cards made by children and in front we see candles this is maybe to signify that the innocence of childhood is going to mix with the spirit world (candles) The narrative structure is very hard to negotiate in the first two minutes, there is no hero or heroine evident, there is no main location clarified.
