May 2017

Dear SIPA Member & Colleagues

The Structural Insulated Panel Association (SIPA) is pleased to announce our partnership with Matrix Group Publishing Inc. in the production of our inaugural full color, 8 ½ by 11-inch glossy stock magazine. SIP NEWS. We believe this project lends itself well to our mission, which is “to provide an industry forum to increase the acceptance and use of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)” in today’s building industry.

SIPA is a non-profit association dedicated to increasing the use and acceptance of SIPs in green, high-performance buildings by providing an industry forum for promotion, communication, education, quality assurance and technical research. SIPs are a high-performance, panelized build-ing system that offers superior thermal performance, air tightness, and durability for energy-efficient homes and commercial buildings. Builders and design professionals seeking to reduce energy use and minimize the carbon footprint of their buildings utilize SIPs as a cost-effective solu-tion for exterior wall and roof systems. SIPs also cut down on framing time, lessen construction waste, and ensure greater jobsite quality control through prefabrication.

SIPs will soon be the preferred building system in North America as building codes now require 50 percent more energy efficiency than 10 years ago, in the form of more insulation and air tightness in buildings. Also, insurance companies are requiring that homes and buildings are stronger to resist hurricanes and extreme weather events. SIPs are manufactured under factory controlled conditions and can be fabricated to fit nearly any building design. The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy-efficient and cost-effective. Building with SIPs generally costs about the same as building with wood frame construction and savings are realized from shorter construction times, smaller heating and cooling systems, and less jobsite waste. In the multi-billion-dollar construction industry, 100 million is accounted for by SIPs.

SIP NEWS will be used to celebrate and showcase successful building case studies and how well-accepted and mainstream SIP structures have become. Many chain hotels, restaurants, strip malls and schools are now only building with SIPs due to energy-efficiency and speed of construc-tion. The magazine will be distributed at conventions and trade shows, and we will share it with our selected architects, manufacturers, suppliers, dealer/distributors, design professionals and builders, all of whom are committed to providing quality structural insulated panels for all segments of the construction industry.

SIPA has been in existence since 1990 and has made tremendous progress in advancing energy-efficient construction with structural insulated panels. We are proud to DIRECT MAIL and share SIP NEWS semi-annually in November and again in May with real estate agents, developers and building code officials, as well as our membership and prospective members in the wood, adhesive, fastener and cutting tool industries. In addition, inaugural copies will be made available at our booth at the National Association of Home Builders at the International Builders Show, January 9-11, 2018, at the Orange County Convention Centre in Orlando, Florida.

The success of SIP NEWS will depend, to a great extent, on the quality and consistency of its advertisers. It is through your advertising invest-ment and support that we are able to publish this communication vehicle. I look forward to working with you to help make SIP NEWS an exciting and successful resource tool.

Thanking you for your kind support,

Sincerely,

Executive DirectorStructural Insulated Panel Association

FACTS:

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are enabling technology to meet the Architecture 2030 Challenge for 100 percent energy efficient buildings.

United States building codes require more insulation and air tightness (less air leakage) in buildings. These have increased every year from 2006 to 2015 by almost 50 percent. This is great news for the SIP industry.

Insurance companies are requiring that homes and buildings are built stronger to resist hurricanes and extreme weather events.

Many chain hotels and restaurants are now only building with SIPs due to energy-efficiency and speed of construction with an over-all lower cost and unskilled labor market.

Also, many states and cities are starting to require homes and builders to get closer to net zero energy buildings. This is good news for SIP building envelopes since they are about 50 percent more energy-efficient.

Structural Insulated Panels have now reached $100 million in annual sales.
