My name is Devinity Thomas...The Silk-N-Smooth Press Stylist. I have only one goal. To make you look and feel Fabulous! I have dedicated my life in helping women of color to transition from Relaxed Hair to Natural Smooth and Silky Hair. I take my time to give you the silkiest, shiniest hair possible. What is "The Silk –N-Smooth Process"?

The Silk-N-Smooth Process is a specific process that I use to straighten my hair to achieve the

silky results. It's a combination of conditioners, my secret serum and straightening technique

which gets that Silky Smooth Results!!

What type of Hair Can it be done on?

The Silk-N-Smooth Process can be done on relaxed, curly, or natural hair.

The hair will be very straight, greaseless, and weightless and have a great deal of body. The

hair will remain straight for 2 weeks (if you don't get it wet). Even in humidity the hair will

remain straight (a little swelling may occur).

"Silk-N-Smooth Process” works best on medium to long hair. We have different options for

short hair.

The Silk-N-Smooth Process “The Process”

Depending on the condition of the hair, it may take between 2 - 4 sessions before the hair is

able to achieve the optimum silky texture. The hair must be trained, so don't get discouraged

if your hair doesn't go to the top level on the first try. It just means you need additional

conditioning treatments, or your hair type requires the process to be completed more than

once. Either way your hair will be move soft and silky than it ever has.

Depending on how long your hair is and how curly your hair is determines the length of the

“Silk-N-Smooth Process " process. It may take 40 mins to 1 hour to complete this step. The

"Silk-N-Smooth Process” process is slow, but is the most crucial step to ensuring proper

results. You cannot rush this step or else the hair will not turn out properly.

Step 1: Wash your hair with a Sulfate Free Shampoo. I use either the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter

Coconut Oil Conditioning Shampoo that is Sulfate Free or Silk Elements Color Care Sulfate Free

Shampoo.

Step2: Condition your hair with a Sulfate Free Conditioner. I use the Silk Elements Color Care

Leave In Conditioner. Every other Wash and Condition, I use Crème of Nature’s Argan Oil

Intense Conditioning Treatment. If you decide to condition with Crème of Nature, follow

directions as listed.

Step 3: After I condition, I use SMOOTH N SHINE Therapy Silk Fusion Silkener Leave-In Styling

Lotion. It silk proteins and pearl extracts that will condition, reconstruct and transform

damaged hair into manageable, healthy and lustrous tresses. This leave-in styling and

conditioning lotion will leave your hair silky, smooth and sleek without weighing it down. I use

a quarter size for complete head application.

As an additive I use my own leave in serum, since my scalp tends to be dry. I combine Extra

Virgin Olive Oil, Apple Cider Vinegar and Luster Pink Lotion. The benefit of the Apple Cider

Vinegar is that it gives the hair more body and luster and reduces hair-loss. It also reduces

itching scalp and dandruff by destroying the bacteria and/or fungi that clog hair follicles. I put

all ingredients in a dropper bottle and add a few drops to my hair and massage it in.

Step 4: As a rule for myself, I ONLY PUT HEAT TO MY HAIR WHEN I AM USING THE FLAT IRON.

I let my hair dry naturally overnight. I plait/twist my hair in small sections, so that when I get

ready to apply heat, my hair will be more manageable. Use a blow dryer on low to med heat

to dry your hair.

Step 5: When hair is completely dry, it is now time for the Silk-N-Smooth Process. I use a 1”

Flat Iron. And working once plaited/twisted section at a time, use a wide tooth comb and hair

clips to section and pin hair back. To protect your hair from the heat, use Smooth n Shine SILK

N SLEEK Straighten Butter, it’s designed to encourage straight styles while providing moisture

balance, humidity resistant hold and frizz control. Apply a small portion to each section of hair

prior to thermal styling.

With a small section of hair, use the flat iron to iron your hair. Go over each section 7-10 times, to ensure the hair is straight. Be careful not to overheat your hair! Repeat this to all sections of your hair.

Step 6: Style as you like. Lightly oil sheen your hair. I usually wrap my hair and tie it with a

satin cloth and wear it down. Your Straight hair style should last up to 2 weeks, providing that

you do not get it wet. Have Fun!!!

List of Sulfate-Free Shampoos & Silicone/Protein Free Conditioners for Textured Hair

Sulfate-free shampoos are the best shampoos for kinky, coily, and curly textured hair types because they gently cleanse the hair without tangling it and stripping it of everything! These shampoos are also recommended for those with color-treated hair because they won't fade or leach colors over time. Product companies are listening! Increasingly, they are rolling out sulfate-free formulas for ingredients-conscious consumers. Below, you'll find a mini list of sulfate-free shampoos that are featured in the "Science of Black Hair Book" coming soon in 2011. The list is not exhaustive as there are hundreds of products and brands on the market, and new ones hitting the market daily. Of course, there are also formula reformulations that occur frequently as well which may change the nature of the shampoo.
