● Washington found a mixed group of men to fight, and he wanted to impose order.

● Washington had 36 barrels of gunpowder, but a rumor started, that Boston had 1,800 barrels so the British would be afraid to attack.

● Washington sent Henry Knox to Fort Ticonderoga to round up some bigger guns.

● In the end, Washington had 59 cannons and 2,300 pounds of lead for bullets.

● On March 4, 1776, there were cannons all aimed on Boston where British troops had been staying.

● The scared army abandoned the city with ships carrying 9,000 British soldiers and 1,100 loyalists.

● After the soldiers left, the Americans thought the war was over.● However, it had only begun.
