BROKEN PROMISES
PRE-INDEPENDENCE
“No Constitution would be acceptable to the Congress which did not satisfy the sikhs.” (Collected works of M K Gandhi Vol.58. p. 192)
“The brave Sikhs of Panjab are entitled to special consideration. I see nothing wrong in an area and a set up in the North wherein the Sikhs can also experience the glow of freedom. (Jawaharlal Nehru, Congress meeting: Calcutta – July, 1944)
POST-INDEPENDENCE
“The Sikhs as a community are a lawless people and are a menace to the law abiding Hindus in the provice. The deputy commissioner should take speacial measures against them” (Chandu Lal Trivedi, Gov of Panjab, October 1947)
Indian constitution adopted in 1949 – no autonomous Sikh State, rather in article 25 declares Sikhs as Hindus, creates regressive and discriminative policies based on caste system – rejected by the Sikhs

10
WHY NOT JUST KILL OR ARREST BABA
JARNAIL SINGH?
Easy to meet or assassinate – so why attack?
He surrendered him self to the Police 6 months before the attack, but was not arrested
V.C of Police Amritsar, Gurdev Singh wanted arrest warrant
It was not about Baba Jarnail Singh, it was trying to suppress the Sikhs
The attack was not on a political figure or movement, but to suppress a religion, to attack their heart, to strike a blow at their spirit and self confidence – Joyce Pettigrew
Used heavy artillery, tanks, helicopters, commandos
Illegal per Indian Law
Around 40 other historical Gurduaras attacked at that time, thousands more innocent Sikhs were murdered

Declaration for Independence of Sikhs - Khalistan!
ACCORDING TO UN – WHO HAS THE RIGHT
TO SELF DETERMINATION

Will to Self Determination
Demonstrate Capacity to Self
Determination
Effective Group Suffers continuous
oppression of Human Rights
WHAT DO WE LEARN?
17
Do Not base our history and heroes from impartial Government
reports
Through our History, our Heroes are based on our Sikh
perspective
US got it’s freedom from England because of brave citizens who
stood up against tyranny!
Heroes who stand up for common people always face character
assassination
Until Lions have their own historians, the tale of the hunt will
always glorify the hunter!
Few brave Sikhs, held the world’s third largest Army for 6 days
with only few outdated weapons
Use it as an inspiration – stories such as Garja Singh Bota Singh,
Meer Manu etc.
Remember this not as Operation Bluestar, but as
THE BATTLE OF AMRITSAR
RIGHT TO SELF DETERMINATION
