• Americans begin protesting the War.

• Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee.
• Robert Kennedy is assassinated in June.
• Shirley Chisholm is elected as America’s first black congress women.
1969
• The decade ends with the Woodstock Music festival on a farm in upstate New York.
• On July 20th, 1969 at 4:18 p.m. Apollo 11 landed on the moon. “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
The 60’s
• It was a time of triumph and tragedy, a time of war and a longing for peace. It was a time of hope and despair. It defined a generation and would forever change the world. It was the 60’s!
