Psa 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart:

try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting”

“How can God, the pure and holy one, with such

intimate and unerring knowledge, tolerate

wicked men?” Leslie G. Thomas

Prov 23:7 “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is

he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart

is not with thee”

Faith is contrasted with doubt.

Rom 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he

eat, because he eateth not of faith: for

whatsoever is not of faith is sin”

1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin

transgresseth also the law: for sin is the

transgression of the law”

In what way are we to Search?

1. No one can thoroughly search himself.

Heart

Jer 17:10 “I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every

man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of

his doings”

He may be more good than he

realizes.

He may be more evil than he

expects.

Jer 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked:

who can know it?”

1 Cor 4:3-4 “But with me it is a very small thing that I should be

judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. For I know nothing by

myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is

the Lord”

Heb 4:12-13 “For the word of God is quick, and

powerful, and sharper than any twoedged

sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder…

Heb 4:12-13 …of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents

of the heart. Neither is there any creature…

Heb 4:12-13 …that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have

to do”

John 3:19-21 “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather

than light, because their deeds were evil. For every

one that doeth evil…

John 3:19-21 …hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be

made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

2. Tests to which we are subject.

Jer 17:10 “I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every

man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of

his doings”

We are searched by the slow and

steady passing of the years.
