1 am a resident of the College Area, adiacent~to SDSU. 1 have long support~d the university, and feal that it is an asset to my coQm'u~~f~ Their plans for expansion are well c~nceived, and ~tfley have been responsive to issues that~they have heard about from residents.

I.- . - SDSU has taken the time and effort to make sum that my community is informed about

their plans. Many in the College Area Community feel that the university should increase on- campus student housing. SDSU listened to tliis concein and changed their plan to include almost 3,000 new beds of student housing. This will make a -significant difference in the community and will provide a mut:h-needed resource for the students.

I hope you will support SDSU's plans for the future. This plan will help the university meet the growing need for higher education, while doing its bejt to work with its neighbors to minimize impacts in the College Area.

Thank you for your consideration.

Dear ~vis~ Achtenberg:

I am writing in support of SDSU's 2007 Campus Master Plan Re~ision. I am an SDSU

T~T)-~"Ambassador for I-Iigher Education, an SDSU ~lum and an employee of SDSU. 1 clearly I~JZ> understand the importance SDSU has played in San Diego's diverse, thriving and

successful economy.

SDSU provides highly skilled and talented graduates to Southern California's workforce. The university is the ]asgest producer of qualified graduates for our region. San Diego continues to gro~ economically because of SDSU's commitment to educate our leaders

of tomorro\Y.

If San Die@6 and California \uanr to continue to play a role in the international market place, we need to meet the growing demand for higher education. It is important that we increase the capacity of our higher education institutions at a time when our workforce is demanding more highly skilled an educated workers. SDSU is committed to diversity and has a long history of community service, making higher education affordable and attainable to underse~ed popularions.

SDSU's C~plls Master Plan Revision is responsive to input received ~om the community. Th;s plan allows SDSU to grow in a responsible manner with minimal impacts to its neighbors. If we are to meet the fi~ture demands of providing a highly

qualified workforce, SDSU has to move forward implementing the Campus Master Plan Revision.

The plan will nearly double the number of student housing beds available on campus, has reduced the number of homes proposed for Adobe Falls, and proposes its fair share toward implementing mitigation measures for off-campus impacts.

Thank you for your support.

De~r Ms. Achtenbcrg:

As IlTL hmb89Y4dl)f. ofHighcr Education for San Die&o State University and a "I,IFETJME STATU S" alumnus of SDSU, I request that the Californiu State University Board of Tn\slees approve 2ha SDSU 2007 Campus l~l~us~sr Plan Revision on September 1 8'".

SDSU has the distinction of being the largest producer of qualified graduates of`aur workforce in the region. Their proposed increase in enrollment from 25,000 PTE to 35,000 FTE will ensure that students have access to a quality higher-education and that our region's economy will continue to ~30w. Additionally, with top national and state ran3ri~igs in the area of educating and graduating ethnic minorities, this increase in enrollment will enable SDSU to serve even greater numl>ms of Irtudent~ dlat represent ~d~tlonally unders~ved populations.

SDSU has been extremely responsive to the concerns oftha communities adjacent to their campus. This plan proposes almost 3,000 new beds on-cp~np~w, drastically reduces tha numba of faculty and s~ffho~aing units on the Adobe falls site north of 1-8, and studies and proposes mitigations f~r impacts oooum'ng in the surrounding n~ighborhoods in the City of San Diego. These concerns were paramount to the community in 2005, when the previous Master Plan wa?l approved by the Board bfTrustees.

Thank you ~or considering my request. I hope that you and the board will agree that S~~l~'s 2007 Campus Master Plan Revision is a rasponsible plan to ensure access ~o higher education fbr t~nerations to come.

RE; SDSU 2007 Campus Master Plan Revision

Dear ChaiMromaT1 Achtenberg:

On behalf of San Diego State University, I ask that you and the California State University Board of Trustees approve the 2007 Campus Master Plan Revision. I am a strong supporter of San Diego State, and know the tremendous benefit that the university provides to the economy of the San Diego region and State of California.

Muck has been said about our gropring need for higher education and the alarming shorc-~ll projected in highly educated workers in our key industries. I am especially concerned about the effect this projected shortfall will have on the bio-tech industry. As the nation's top small researc~~ university, it is even more critical that SDSU increase its enrollment to provide irs top-notch education to even more students and to continue to produce high-quality graduates to meet the demand of industries like the bio-tech industry. Approval oftl~e Campus Master plan Revision will provide necessary resources to accommodate increased enrollment at SDSU.

As public officials, one of the most important things we can do is to Ensure that the oppo~lutlitv for higher education is aYailabte for those who seek it. these Educared workers provide the. begt assurance that our region and state will continue to prosper well into the future.

Dear President Weber:

At their June 8, 2007 meeting, the Aztec Parents Advisory Board endorsed and committed to support San Diego State University's 2007 Campus Master Plan Revision.

As parents of 5DSU students, the Aztec Parents Advisory Board recognizes the importance of the Campus Master Plan in ensuring access to the affordable and high-quality education provided by SDSU. The plan adequately allows for the Icn~-t~rm growth Of student enrollment to accommodate the need for access to higher education, as well as providing adequate facilities to accommodate the an ticipated growth.

The plan developed by the Campus MastPr Plan ~om~Tiittee will help SDSU achieve the following important goals:

· Continue to provide access to high quality university education in the face of increasing demands

· Enhance SDSU's status as an outstanding undergrad~ate, graduate and research university

· Support efforts to recruit and retain exceptional faculty · Encourage a diverse student body · Continue to contribute to the region's economic future

We are extremely pleased that the Campus Master Plan has included plans to accommodate up to 10,000 students in university-managed housing. With the increase in housing, more freshmen and sophomore students will have access to SDSU's highly successful residential education programs. Recent research studies at SDSU have shown that students who Live in the residence halls earn

Re: SDSU 2007 Campus Master Plan Amendment

Dear Chairperson Achtenberg:

I am writing to express my strong support for SDSU's 2007 Campus Master Plan Amendment, SDSU has provided access to high quality education to our region for more than 110 years. It is important that they continue to meet the gro~ing demand for higher education for future generations of students.

The Campus Master Plan nearly doubles the n~ber of student housing beds available on campus. SDSU's planners are responsive to input received ·6rom the communit~·. This plan allows the campus to grow in a responsible manner with minimal inzpacts to its neighbors. The plan has reduced the number of homes proposed for Adobe Falls, and proposes its fair share toward implementing mitigation measures for off-campu:; impacts.

SDSU is committed to diversity and has a long history of community service, making higher education attainable to underserved populations. As i~e councilmember for a largely undcrserved and predominantly Latino region I am grateful for the opportunities t~7at the university provides. Your support: of the Campus Master Plan Amendment will make it possible for SDSU to continue its important work well into the future.

RE: SDSU 2007 Campus Master Plan Revision

Dear Chairwoman Achtenberg,

As the President and CEO of the San Diego Film Commission, which is tasked with attracting production to San Diego, facilitating the film permission process, and acting as a~l ombudsman between production companies, the community and local government for the entire region, I can attest that San DiegO State University has made a significant con~tibution to our region's workforce. In fact, they are directly responsible for producing thousands of talented film and television professionals now working in the entertainment industry in both San Diego and in Los Angeles.

During my tenure zit:the Film Commission, I have had the great pleasure of working yrith many of the university's professors and aspiring young filrrm~akers. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for our region to produce the next generation of film and television professio~als_ if we are to continue to foster the growth of this very important industry in Sem Diego. ~ZTI industry -- which according to the Motion Picture Association of America most recent economic snapshot of the San Diego region -- generated more than $1 17 million to the local economy and supported more than 5,000 jobs for San Diegans.

It is clear to me that we must support the growth of SDSU if we want to ensure its ability to continue ro produce the qualified graduates that live and work in the San Diego region for future generations yrhic)l includes film and television professionals. To that end, I urge )·ou to approve this important plan at your upcoming board meeting in September.

Uear Chairwoman Achlenbcrg:

I would like to a~prcss Iny strong support for San Dicgo State University's (SDSU) 2007 M;ister Plan Revision which your board will be considering for approval at its Septernber meeting.

'I`hE need Tor I~igher education is growing statewide, especially in Southern California. With the growing nc~inbcr of students projected to outpace the nvai labi i iiy of h igher education, Ca1 i rornia ~i II be unable to mccl Itcy workforce demands. San Diego County relies on SDSII to provide a sjgnjficant;lmounl of its hit~hc·i· education needs. lt provides an increasingly d iverse number of students access to higher fclucslion. many oTwhom would not have otherwise had the chance of a~lcnding a four-year universily.

SI)Sl~`s Inasler plal~ is important because it calls for gl·o~th in a gradual and planned manher to help meet its gl-c~wihg dcl·nand. By incl·easinl: its capacity, SDSU is ensuring future gcncl'ations with the opporlLlniry of becol-ninl: the educated and prepared professionals the work Terce relies on In~,n ahd 1T~ol·e.

Ihroughout this planning eF~or~, SDSU has worked hard to reach out to its neighbors and address their conccl·ns. I was happy to see changes in the plan responded to the community's input. including increasing the arnnunt of student housing and decreasing the number of units at ~dobe Falls. With IhcsL- chan$c~. SDSIJ is mi~imii~ing Alture problems that I-nay ilrfect its neighbors. while still being able I~~ llllf?ll their mission of providing access to hiher education.

I hope that you will vote to approve this plan. ()Llr ability to plan lor and accommodate the Ilacd li,r higher education will provide the opportunity to help ensure our slate's continued prosperity.

RE: SDSU 2007 Cnmpus Master Plan Revision

Dear Chainuoman Achtenberg:

The Urban, League of San Diego County and I as its President has committed considerable time, energy and financial assistance to promoting academic achievement, employment opportunities and helping individuals move towards social and economic equality. We are in need of the proposed expansion oftbe San Diego State's campus in order to have adequate facilities for those in our community that will meet all of the requirements for malriculating at our local university. I strongly urge you to approve San Diego State's 2007 Campus Master ]>lan Revision on September 18.

SDSU has long shown a commitment to diversity in its student body, faculty, and staff. The university is ranked 1 l'h in the nat~ion for the number of degrees awarded to minorities and 22"d in the nation for ethnic diversity ovemll~ Through programs such as the City Heights Educational Collaborative and the SDSU-Sweetwater Compact for Success. SDSU fuels the dreams of hundreds of students ayear to attain a I~igher education when traditionally; these students would not have had the encouragement and confidence to do so.

The approval of SDSU's Master Plan and the increase in enrollment capacity it includes means that even more disadvantaged and capable students and their families will have the opportunity to realize their dreams of higher education. This will lead to greater social and economic equality in the region and further their mission of encouraging diversity.

Thank you for consid~rin~ my request.

Sincerely,
