The Scroll Greetings in the Name of Christ!
You may be wondering...What are OUR Elders up to? Honest question. So,
I thought it important to provide the Church body with an update, and to let
you know some of the issues the Elders are currently working on. As you are
aware, earlier this year, we voted to transition to an elder led Church. The
recommendation for this transition was the result of an 18 month study by a
Church appointed Elder Study Group. After a season of prayer and a lengthy
nomination process, the Church selected the following individuals as elders:
Barry Orrell, Barbara Todd, Bruce Lundy, Ken Epley, and Rick Page.
Since being appointed, the Elders have met twice and plan to meet every
two-three weeks to work on the administrative details and operating
procedures for the execution of an Elder Council within the life of the
Church. As you can imagine, there is a lot of work associated with the
transition and it will not happen overnight. Our intent is to work diligently,
thoroughly, and with a sense of purpose to insure we get things right. Let
me share a few of the major tasks and issues we are looking at as immediate
concerns.
First, defining the specific roles, responsibilities, and expectations for the
Elder Council—in essence, a job description for the Elders. What is important is to tailor
the job description of our Elders for the equipping of the Church body to accomplish the

of having our Elders for several Sundays in the
pulpit.
You won’t want to miss the messages the have

assigned Kingdom mission the Lord has given us.
Part of this process will require discerning each
Elder’s unique gifting in order to identify their
correct ministry area within the Church body.
Because our Elders will assume a lot of the
roles, responsibilities, and duties that our
deacons currently perform, we will need to
review and realign the job description and
expectations for that of deacon. Our intent is to
keep deacons involved in the ministry aspects
within the Church body. The primary ministry task
here being the overwatch and care of deacon
families.
Finally, the appointment of elders and the
subsequent realignment of deacon roles and
responsibilities will precipitate a revision of our
Church Constitution. The exact depth and breadth
of the revision will develop over time. However, I
need to say that our current Church Constitution
was revised several years ago and is a good
working document. Therefore, unless otherwise
required, our intent is to work within the existing
frame of our current Constitution.
One final thought. As we move forward, the
Elders will continue to keep the Church body
informed. Our desire is to be open and
transparent as we carry out this transition and
implementation of an Elder Council and Elder led
Church. There will be bumps along the way—
there always are when change occurs. Our desire
is to keep the bumps to a minimum and to make
this process as smooth as possible. In line with
this desire, I ask you to pray for the Elders as we
begin our work. WE covet your prayers and
support as we earnestly begin this endeavor.

Over the last eight years, we have seen a steady decline in contributions
to the Cemetery Fund.
The decline in contributions combined with lower interest rates have
made it impossible to pay the expenses associated with the upkeep of the
cemetery.
We are trying to avoid using our savings for mowing expenses. Our goal
is to have this fund generate money from interest and become self-maintaining.
We would appreciate your contributions for this purpose. Checks can be made to Deep
Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
