Municipal Agent Notes By John Sullivan
DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS BLIND OR
VISION IMPAIRED?
Connecticut Radio Information Service (CRIS) is a pri-
vate, non-profit organization that broadcasts live read-
ing from current newspapers and magazines on FM ra-
dio and cable TV to people who cannot read the printed
page due to visual impairment or other disabilities. To
sign up someone contact CRIS, 315 Windsor Ave,
Windsor CT 860-527-8000 or 800-708-0004. You can
also contact Board of Education and Service for the
Blind (BESB), 184 Windsor Ave, Windsor CT 860-602
-4000. If the person is not registered with BESB for
services, his/her application must be filled out by an
eye doctor. Also, the person needs to see a licensed
occupational therapist for an evaluation. Once regis-
tered the person will be supplied with a special radio
capable of receiving closed circuit broadcasts from
CRIS. There is no charge for this service. Anyone in
the area needing help in obtaining a special radio for a
visually-impaired person can call Low Vision Center,
975 Farmington Ave., Bristol, CT 06010 Phone 1-860-
5289-3587. PLEASE NOTE: The Center is open for
low vision help only, Mondays between 1&2pm, and
only by appointment. Volunteer Opportunities: Right
now, CRIS has sufficient number of on-air readers in
English. They could use Spanish-speaking persons
who are articulate and would be agreeable to an audi-
tion. Also they are looking for Internet savvy people to
do on-line searches. Best Regards, John
Senior Citizens Club News Club Social will be held on Friday, March 4th
Doors open at 5pm. Thank you! Betty Ellis
