“In the balances of the sanctuary the Seventh-day Adventist church is to be weighed. She will be

judged by the privileges and advantages that she has had… If her spiritual experience does not correspond to the advantages that Christ, at

infinite cost, has bestowed on her, if the blessings conferred have not qualified her to do the work entrusted to her, on her will be pronounced the

sentence: "Found wanting." By the light bestowed, the opportunities given, will she be judged.”

“God is weighing our characters, our conduct, and our motives in the balances of the sanctuary. It will be a fearful thing to be pronounced wanting in love and obedience by our Redeemer… To be weighed in the balance and found wanting in the day of final settlement and rewards will be a fearful thing, a

terrible mistake which can never be corrected. Young friends, shall the book of God be searched in

vain for your names?”3 T 370

What is the purpose?

Why it is that God has a sanctuary?

Why is it that we cannot see our God face to face?

What happened?

Page 5: The sanctuary 1

“And God saw every thing that he had

made, and, behold, it was very good.”

Genesis 1:31

He willingly “collected all the riches of the universe, and laid them down in order to

purchase the pearl of lost humanity… there is nothing held in reserve, but that all

heaven has been poured out in one vast gift... Never can His gift be surpassed, never

can He display a richer depth of love…”

“But your iniquities have separated between you and

your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he

will not hear.”

Isaiah 59:2

“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the

proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall

leave them neither root nor branch.”

Malachi 4:1

“If you cling to self, refusing to yield your will to God, you are choosing death. To

sin, wherever found, God is a consuming fire. If you choose sin, and refuse to

separate from it, the presence of God, which consumes sin, must consume you.”

“Listen: "If any man hear my voice, and open the door,"-- what does he say?--"I will come in to him." Good. Thank the Lord! And "he is a consuming fire;" and when he comes in to you, that coming will consume all the sin in you, so that when he comes in the clouds of heaven in flaming fire, you can meet him in

joy in the consuming fire that he is.”

A.T. Jones, Review and Herald Jan, 24 & 31, 1899.

“It is one of the most blessed truths in the Bible, that our God is a consuming fire because of His

Holiness. For, then, in Jesus Christ, we meet Him whose holiness is a consuming fire to sin;

and that is the pledge of our salvation in perfection from every stain of sin. The

brightness, the glory, the all consuming purity of that holiness, will take every vestige of sin and sinfulness out of the man who will meet God in Jesus Christ.” A. T. Jones, GCB 1895,

Sermon 16, para. 41.
