Greetings from Your Lieutenant Governor
Hey Division 11/18c!
I am extremely excited to be your
Lieutenant Governor for the 2014-2015 year. I
am a grade eleven student at Abbotsford
Senior Secondary School. I served as Club
President last year which was when I
developed my love for Key Club. I enjoy
playing video games, rugby and football.
Serving is my passion because I truly believe
that if one of my actions can make
someone’s day better or even make them
smile, it was worthwhile.
I am looking forward to meeting each of you
during the course of this year. I hope to see
you all at the DCMs and Canada Rally (more
information to come). I am so lucky to be a
part of such an outgoing and enthusiastic
division. The passion for service I see in your
eyes continues to inspire me.
I hope I will be able to serve you all well this
year. If you ever need to express concern,
discuss ideas or just talk about Key Club, do
not hesitate to contact me.
These first few months working with you guys
has been an absolute pleasure. Seeing all of
you excited Key Clubbers makes me love Key
Club more and more every day.
In Caring and Service,
Pranav Arya
Division 11/18c Lieutenant Governor

Can MNT be stopped?
Yes! MNT is highly preventable. Just three doses of
a 60-cent immunization protect mothers, who
then pass on the immunity to their future babies.
Together, Kiwanis and UNICEF can stop this
disease.
This year’s District Project is….ELIMINATING MNT!
What is MNT?
In 30 countries around the world, maternal and
neonatal tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy
of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby
every nine minutes. Its effects are excruciating —
tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions
and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is
little hope of survival. And tetanus kills mothers
too.
Who suffers from MNT?
MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil
everywhere, come into contact with open cuts
during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of
the poor, the geographically hard to reach and
those without health care.
Why hasn't MNT been eliminated
already?
UNICEF has helped to successfully eliminate MNT
in many countries. But in 30 countries in Africa,
Asia, Europe and North America, it still strikes
babies and mothers who have little or no access
to health care — either because they are poor,
live in remote areas or are caught in
humanitarian emergencies. More funds and
resources are needed to reach all babies and
mothers at risk.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is a non-profit organization that
raises money for children in hospitals. Through their efforts, CMN
Hospitals save thousands of children annually through their
investments in research, training and financial aid. There are over
170 hospitals endorsed by Children’s Miracle Network in the United
States. Key Club International supports Children’s Miracle Network
by sponsoring fundraising events. Key Club made Children’s Miracle
Network an official Preferred Charity in 1997. There are several
hospitals that the Pacific Northwest District supports. Key Clubbers
can help Children’s Miracle Network by hosting and participating in
fundraising events in their communities. Additionally, CMN also
works to increase awareness of their supported hospitals so Key
Clubbers can also give their parents and fellow students information
about Children’s Miracle Network and the hospital they promote in
their area.
Examples of fundraisers include:
Pageant for Miracle Kids
Cook off/eating contest
Making and selling trinkets like bracelets and earrings
Sports tournament – soccer, dodgeball, tennis, etc.
Rubber duck race
5K fun run

Miracle Weekend at BC Children’s Hospital
On June 1st, Key Clubbers joined other members of the
K-Family including Kiwanians and CKI-ers at BC
Children’s Hospital. Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program
presented a cheque to the hospital along with various
other charities. KCCP raises money for the hospital
through the help of the K-Family. KCCP donates money
to the fellowship program at BC Children’s. Their annual
contribution of $75,000 goes to pay for the expenses of
the oncology training of a doctor who, after completing
his training, will go back to South Africa and open the
first oncology hospital in his home town. Thank you all for
your contributions!

Individual Key Clubs belong to divisions, which belong to
districts, which comprise Key Club International.
Districts
There are 33 organized districts. Each district, normally
defined by state or nation, tends to match a similar
Kiwanis district and is led by a governor, who is elected
by delegates at the annual district convention.
Divisions
Districts are divided into divisions and each division has
a lieutenant governor, a student leader who carries out
the district’s policies and provides support to the clubs.
Clubs
Key Clubs are established in a high school or equivalent
institution. A community-based club also may be
chartered. Elected officers can include president, one
or more vice presidents, secretary, treasurer, editor and
one director from each class.

We all know it’s summer once the sun begins to poke through the clouds in
the winter. As we wrap up the 2013/2014 Key Club year, our Robert Bateman
club member have been hard at work preparing for exams, as well as
maintaining their Key Club duties. For the month of May, Bateman members
showed their support for the teachers by attending both of their strike days,
bringing them food, as well as providing the teachers with company and
support. The teachers all appreciated our presence and it also help spread
Key Club awareness within the staff body.
On June 1, along with Mikayla, Pranav, Sahil, and myself, we had the great
opportunity of going to the BC Children’s Hospital Miracle Weekend to
present a cheque with our KCCP spokesperson, Darlene Smith, to the BC
Children’s Hospital. The four of us also got to meet other Key Club and Circle
K members.
To finish off the year, we held our very last Key Club meeting on June 3 to
celebrate our Club members, as well as the successes we have experienced
this year. Under Yujin’s term, we managed to triple the size of the club. The
2014/2015 executive team hope to continue her team’s success.
For our final service project, we will be volunteering at our own school for the
Kiwanis KCCP Volley Ball tournament. With the combined efforts of the other
Abby Key Clubs, we know this event will be successful like the last.
Over the course of the summer, our executive team will be meeting several
times to coordinate our plans next year with our fellow Kiwanis and school
advisors.

President of Bateman Key Club
May has been a relatively slow month for Yale Key Club as it is coming to the
end of the school year. In the beginning of the month we held a garage sale
where we raised around $60 towards Destiny Rescue to support the victims of
human trafficking. We also sold mushroom compost as well as children books
"Happy go Lucky" at the farmer's market and raised over $1200! In June we
are very excited for the end of year celebration filled with games and pizza!
Additionally Rachel is hosting a Rescue Run at Mill Lake at which the money
raised will also go towards Destiny Rescue. This year has been yet another
amazing year for Yale and I can't wait for the many opportunities that will
come next year. Shout out to Rachel Lee for being such an inspirational
president!

This month Solh Key Club had our coffee house fundraiser that took place on
May 22nd and 23rd. Students provided entertainment during a bake sale held at
lunch, and all proceeds from the bake sale went towards the Rice Raiser
charity. Over the course of the month we also assembled knitted bags that
contained comfort items and candy for cancer patients in coordination with
the Chilliwack Hospice Society. Our final meeting and club wrap-up was held
on June 3rd!
Erin Steele
President of SOLH Key Club
Hey everyone! This past month at our Abby Traditional Key Club we had
possibly our biggest event of the year with our chartering ceremony. We had
the ceremony and are now officially chartered! The meeting went great and
the Kiwanis club had done a great job of organizing it for our club. We also
had our elections done for the next school year, which resulted in our two
new presidents: Roop Warraich and Gaurav Sandhar, VPs: Ricky Johal and
Kajal Sandhar, Secretaries: Kaysha Frazier and Summer Jackson, Treasurer: Ally
Ghakkar and the Bulletin Editor is Janelle Stephens. We are also sad to see our
original presidents Sahil and Ekanki Chawla going and we wish them the best
in the future. They had done an amazing job with the club this inaugural year
and we are hoping to bring the same level of energy and excitement that
they had brought to every meeting this year. The ATSS Key Club would also
like the thank all of the members in our division for all the help this year and
showing us how Key Club is truly an amazing club and helping to give us the
drive to continue to serve others. We have our last meeting coming up on
June 11th and along with the DCM it will be a great way to end of a successful
year.

This May our club hosted 30 Hour Famine at our school! It was so successful and I am
so thankful for all the volunteers and Key Clubbers who took the time to help with
the event and also join in the famine. We had over 60 kids come to the event and
we raised 1,700 dollars for Free the Children’s Adopt A Village program! We had a
former key club president help supervise, and many other teachers from our school
volunteered as supervisors. The Kiwanis Club hosted a delicious pancake breakfast
in the morning to break the fast! I am so proud of our club, this event took a lot of
work to run and it went so smoothly! We organized a photo booth, games, a movie
area and other activities for the kids. We also had a speaker who is going to Haiti this
summer talk about what it is like to live in Haiti and the struggles many people face
day to day. Hopefully we can host this wonderful event next year. We finished off
May by planning our last fundraiser of the year- an Ice Cream Sale! We are deciding
to feature 3 flavours: Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry Marble. All money will go to
support Eliminate!
Maegan Mckay
President of Abby Senior Key Club
During this month, the Garibaldi Key Club has finished and started several projects.
One project that we took part in was the Water Walk, in which we raised funds for
the club. It was on Friday May 9, and was a day-long event where members had
to sell popcorn to people participating in the Water Walk. Although there were
designated shifts for members to sign up for, what ended up happening was four
grade 8 members staying at the booth the whole day; something which was
greatly appreciated and praised. Other members got out of their classes when
they could and helped out however they could. Also, we helped the local Kiwanis
club in their annual Hanging Baskets sales which were May 3rd, 4th10th and 11th.
Although it was cold and the shifts were sometimes long, we knew it was for a
good cause and knew we were helping out! One project which we have
decided to take a part in, is being volunteers to serve dinners at the Salvation
Army Caring Place every second Friday. We have partnered with the local Kiwanis
group for this year-round project and our first day was last Friday. We are crossing
our fingers that this project will continue to be as successful!
