Accessing the Portal Welcome to the Parent Portal. The Parent Portal provides parents and carers with up to date information regarding their child’s progress at school. The purpose of this guide is to show the various features that are available to you within the Parent Portal.

Requirements

The Parent Portal is best accessed via Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari. Microsoft Internet Explorer is not as well supported and it is advised that you do not use this browser. You will need to ‘enable popups’. This process is different for each browser and is usually determined through your settings menu. Mobile phone access is currently not supported.

Access to the Portal

The portal can be accessed from the School website. Click on the “Parent Portal” link on the main page

Logging in to the Portal

Enter your username and portal in the space provided on the portal frontpage. If you have forgotten your login details you can use the “Can’t Login?” link provided to recover your details. Please be aware that this facility will only work if you have supplied a unique email address. If you and another member of your family have the same email address recorded in the portal then this facility will not work. If this is the case please contact the School Administration Team for assistance by calling Reception.

The Home Page When you first login you will be taken to the Home Page. This page contains links to other features as well as showing the daily noticeboard.

There are a number of features here that are worth looking at in more detail.

From the blue side menu you can choose between the home screen and the diary. When on the home screen the default view is the dashboard. From the dashboard you can view several features:

Notice Board

Daily information is posted here by staff. Please note that Parent Friend Lists are included here. This enables parents to opt in and supply details to enable contact within a yeargroup – this can be helpful to carpool to sport games.

Approvals

This is a workflow area for online permission notes. This is not being used by SACS at this stage.

Upcoming Events

A quick list of events that your child may be involved in. Click ‘Show all’ for more details.

Change my Details

You can update your details via the “Change my Details” page. This can be accessed by clicking on the Home button.

This area allows for updating your address, email, phone etc. as well as any changes to family circumstances and the way in which we communicate to you. More specific information on changing details can be found on ‘Parent Portal Change My Details Guide’.

Update Password

Click here to update your password. Passwords should be updated regularly to maintain security to your private information.

The Plus Sign

Clicking on ‘Carer Portal’ provides you with more detailed information regarding your child/ren. In the top right hand corner of the screen you will see a large “+” sign.

When the “+” sign is clicked you are presented with several options:

Choosing “New Window” will duplicate your portal session allowing you to have multiple windows open at the same time. The Diary option, while primarily set up for staff and students is nevertheless available to parents. Clicking on ‘appointment’ or ‘phone call’ will allow you to book an appointment or phone call with a staff member. The event option is not available for parents.

The Carer Portal The Carer Portal is the area in which more detailed information regarding your child can be found. It is accessed from the Home Screen.

The carer portal contains a lot of information and we will look at each part in turn. From this screen you can view details regarding upcoming tasks, view past results and academic reports, view upcoming events, view awards and discipline entries, view your child’s attendance details or daily timetable.

Upcoming Tasks

The upcoming tasks tab shows all tasks that your child will be assessed on in the coming few weeks.

By clicking on “Click here to see all tasks” you can search for all tasks in a particular subject that are planned for the current academic year (or another year if you wish). This screen allows you to click on an individual task and see more information including downloading the assessment notification.

Recent Task Results

The Recent Task Results tab shows information regarding your child’s past assessment tasks.

To show more tasks click on “click here to see history for all tasks”. To see the task result for a particular task click on “Show Task Result”.

This screen shows a detailed analysis and comment on your child’s performance in the assessment task. It includes the score, the average for the class and the rank. A box and whisker graph shows your child’s placement and grade in relation to the rest of the student body. Each element of the box and whisker plot illustrates the class quartiles and median (middle score).

Academic Reports

The academic reports tab allows the user to download past academic reports for their child.

By clicking on the report (the link in blue) the user will be prompted to save the file to their own computer. Academic reports are saved in PDF format. To view these files you need to have a PDF reader installed on your computer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Awards and Disciplines

Awards Received

A list of any Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Excellence Awards is listed here.

Disciplines

Any recent discipline entries are listed here. Click ‘Show All’ for a history of all items.

Recent Absences

Any recent absences for your child will show in this area.

Older Absences

Click on ‘Show All’ to show all absences for the current year. This will show the date of the absence, whether the absence was for a full or partial day, the reason given and the method of verification such as a carer note. If no verification has been provided then this field will be blank.

View Attendance Details

This section shows you a detailed period by period breakdown of your child’s attendance. It will show you whether they were present or absent during each period at school, whether they were late to a class, and whether they were on event.

Links

This provides a quick link to your child’s weekly timetable and a more detailed overview of your child’s attendance record.

View Timetable

Clicking this link takes you to your child’s weekly timetable. This timetable is dynamic rather than a generic weekly timetable and shows any events your child will be participating in. The green banner at the top of the timetable shows assessment tasks that you child will be working on in that week.

Each period that is shown in this timetable contains a small email icon. Click on the email icon to send an email to your child’s teacher.

Diary The Diary option provides access to your child’s timetable, assessment information as well as the overall school calendar.

Student Diary

This section shows you all upcoming events for your child.

When you have clicked “Show”, your child’s timetable for that given week is shown.

The School Calendar

The School Calendar can be viewed by choosing it from the side menu. Or by choosing it from the “Other Calendars” option when viewing your child’s timetable. Because our school is a busy place with many things happening each day it is often necessary to filter out the information that you do not want to view. To do this

Uncheck the boxes in the ‘Event

Types’ section that you do not want to

view in the calendar.

Choose the form run from the form run

drop down menu.

You can choose whether to view

events or assessment tasks or both.
