EDITOR IN-CHIEFAayushi Vohra

It is needless to say; there is no inevitable end to the grandeur and dread in the human spectacle. Across the continents, humanity rises to every challenge, and it sinks to any depth. We cherish each heart-beat, but we murder at will. We bless nature’s miracles, yet we trash

the hood.We accept this polarity as human nature and we move on in our

‘glassy essence’. Our angers flare to violence and we demand justice. Of course, it already counts that we change the world every day. Just

by engaging in life, we make a difference. As a gregarious species that enjoys getting along well, most of those differences are positive, driven by our intelligence, our natural empathy for others, our desire to laugh, and the myriad satisfactions of helping make things better.

So many people live in relentless poverty. So many are unwilling refugees. So many suffer needlessly, die as children. Each one is our

neighbor, born free, deserving human rights. They must be invisible no longer. Every danger, every loss, every injustice in their

lives affects us all.So breathe this earth! Soar its surface! Know its people! Engage this planet, your fragile home, and all its sentient beings in the essential

connection of good intent. With this, I welcome you to Ryan Young Leaders’ Model United

Nations 2015.

UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLYCountering Threats To International Maritime Security.

- Anushka SharmaThe co-operation of navies from around the world promises high tactical value for the ships, aircraft, and the divers in-volved while demonstrating international resolve in defend-ing maritime security against potential threats. The UNGA aims to implement the national strategy and re-pression of piracy and other criminal acts of the sea. The na-tions of the world have long considered pirates to be univer-sal enemies of mankind. Piracy and related maritime crimes are a serious threat and they interfere with freedom of the seas and undermine regional stability. These crimes must be countered as they pose a challenge to both policymakers and seafarers. Some major threats to maritime security include the threat or use of force against the sovereignty, territorial integrity or political independence of a state; terrorist acts against shipping, offshore installations and illegal trans-port of WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction); threats to resource security such as illegal fishing and environmental threats including illegal dumping. As time has worn on many navies have taken up the cause of waiving off maritime malfeasance. The three broad planks to combat maritime crime are the prevention and response to such acts and the intensifying of maritime security and governance. Many strategies and policies have been framed, but they lack the proper targeting as well as implementation. Mari-time crimes are not new; they have been around since before state-sponsored were established and are in common ac-quaintance with many organizations today. Realizing the nature of these threats has not changed, it is logical to assume that they will continue if not tackled prop-erly, to pose challenges to not only policy makers but also to global security in the future.

UNITED NATIONS COMMITTEE ON CHILD RIGHTS

The Subsiding Realm Of Childhood.- Deepanshi Narula and Poorvi Gupta

Vansh VermaniChairperson

Jai HiranandaniRapporteur

“Childhood is not from birth to a certain age and at a certain age the child is grown, and puts away childish things. Child-hood is the kingdom where nobody dies.”So, why is this king-dom losing its colors? Why are the children in middle-east deprived of their legitimate rights? Children across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) continue to face appallingly difficult humanitarian conditions and human rights depriva-tions. Their rights to life, liberty and security are denied in the face of escalating violence and conflict that consumes large swathes of the region. The sheer number of children affected in the region is staggering and there has been a persistent abuse of their fundamental rights. There is a real risk of a lost genera-tion of children as they grow up witnessing violence, suffering deep wounds, and enduring hardship at the expense of their education and possibly their futures .It is exigent to give these children their rights and a kingdom where there are no hard-ships and sufferings. So, let the kingdom come, let it subsist peacefully and blissfully. Because children do not constitute anyone’s property: they are neither the property of their par-ents nor even of society. They belong only to their own future freedom. So, do not cage them, restrict them within fences. With this thought, the United Nations Committee on Rights of Child has been convoked to emphasize on the question on the horizon about the Rights of Children in the Middle East. Ergo, Constant Deliberation, a tinge of diplomacy and a perfect consensus is necessary to tackle a huge problem that threatens international peace.

UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL

The role of international trade and economic integration in development of coun-tries with special emphasis on trade barriers and Protectionist policies.

- Nayva Singh and Chitra SharmaToday we are living in a world where distance has shrunk between the ends of the world with the formation of a global society. Anything ranging from a needle to a colossal machine can reach with an incessant effort. The exchange of goods and services along international borders is the key term of international trade. Ousting the restricted trade with the countries, most of the countries of this contemporary era took a conspicuous effort in liberalizing their economies and alluring to the policy of foreign trade. International trade is inextricably linked to development. Openness to trade tends to spur growth, helps in stabilizing prices and promotes efficiency gains through increased competition. It allows countries to take advantage of specialization and economies of scale. The causation link can be ambiguous, as it might be argued that expanding trade causes economic growth as well as that increased trade is the consequence of economic growth. But trading across borders is not that liberal because of the existence of barri-ers and trade protectionism. Many economists have a positive outlook towards trade protection as it protects the local inherent traders, producers and infant industries from exploitation of the outside world. While some believe that there should not be any trade protection but free trade as it will lead to specialization and a competent market. Therefore international trade and economic integration are definitely the backbone of development in countries.

ISLAMIC DEVELOPMENT BANK“The war against hunger is truly mankind’s war of liberation.World Peace cannot be achieved until or unless the stomach of each and every person is filled..”

- Yamini Gupta and Nandana BhattarcharjeeWith the purpose of fostering the economic development and social prog-ress of member states and Muslim communities, the Islamic Development Bank holds itself responsible for the welfare and well being of the peo-ple. At RYLMUN’15, deliberations will be held on the increase of intra-Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Foreign Direct Investment laying special emphasis on the agricultural sector. The agricultural sector plays a distinctive role in any country’s economy. With the agricultural crisis at hand, the world faces a myriad of problems such as rising food prices, exerting strain on the economies of OIC member countries with its adverse effects on the lives of people especially in the low income groups.Ergo, a significant increase in new investment in agriculture in OIC mem-ber countries is imperative to address these challenges, eradicate poverty, ease chronic food insecurity and tackle rising food prices. Moreover, the current market conditions present investment opportunities to countries with potential in the agriculture sector. Such investments would not only address the issue of food security, but could prove to be a growth stimulus. Also, it is a must to pay specific attention to issues of productivity and FDI along with determining the potential for further investments. One must review the experiences of agriculture investment in selected member coun-tries with a view to identifying potential roles for countries seeking FDI and their development partners in fostering in foreign investments in the agriculture sector. The young diplomats are expected to engage in an extensive and fruitful debate and provide valuable insights on the status and potential for FDI in the agriculture sector in OIC member countries along with the constraints hampering such investments. The World Press wishes to witness one of the most thought provoking and attention grabbing conferences and expects the delegates to leave no room for mistakes or else, the ladder might snap.

UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL

“We must see that peace represents a sweeter music, a cosmic melody that is far superior to the discords of war.”

- Vipasha VermaAnchored psyches with their resilient etiquettes and tenacious personas amalgamate into the Security Council on this very day. Today, fifteen adherent states ensconce together to yield solu-tions as a denouement of the dwelled on crisis. Crisis, on our apple, is not impetuous but extant. The globe, with its 195 realms, is bound to experience or advance any denomination of crisis. There’s no second rumination that crisis is inevitable but the human race has a prevalent misapprehension - that crisis can be construed. Crisis is not resolvable. Crisis is tackled, facilely han-dled. If we skim the pages of history to the monotonously bur-geoning pages of our present, we light upon the multitudinous dilemmas of the ancients to the moderns. But, we also stumble upon the myriad of legends who sagaciously handled the bear-ings with their own free will. The diplomats of the world commu-nity are the architects of the prodigious peace works. Diplomats of the community do not fish for diacritic integrity but dig in-variably to unearth a concerted solution. Harmony and a perfect synchronization is their agenda of priority and peace for each living individual is their desired outcome. The diplomats fabri-cating the Security Council yearn for peace. They are primed and apt for pouring in their hearts and souls into the very last epoch of the day. The world community pledges to shift the aspiration of a greater tomorrow into a reality.

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change

Needed Retrospection- Garima Singh

To establish sustainable development that limits anthropogenic effects on the climate has been a dream of the world community ever since a regressive relationship between the two was understood. Consequently the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was drafted and signed. While it employs no explicit enforcement mecha-nisms to curb the emission of green house gasses, it does give a plat-form to negotiate specific international treaties pertaining to the same.

The Kyoto protocol, which came into effect in 2005, has been more of a failure than a success since it lacked the leadership of central players in the climate change debate like the United States of America. Targets were set but they weren’t delivered on, developed countries declined participation due to the high economic cost involved and while there was adequate emphasis on reduction of carbon dioxide production, there was little emphasis on carbon consumption.

The success of the committee will lie in the objective analysis of the shortcomings of the Kyoto protocol, whichin turn would decide the possibility of another global counter climate change policy.Member states are expected to realize and deliberate according to the simple fact that the continuity and prosperity of their societies depends on thriving ecosystems whose preservation cannot be compromised.

Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world, indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
