The Ralph Verde Foundation (RVF) is a service-oriented not-for-profit

who passed away of a terminal brain tumor in 2011 while completing his senior

year at Yale University. Ralph’s belief was that education was the cherished

means to any goal. In alignment with this philosophy, the RVF mission is to

promote student achievement and academic excellence. Its aim is to support

educational development for children of all ages, reward high-achieving

students for their successes in the classroom and the community, and inspire

academic excellence by propagating Ralph’s story. To achieve these goals, the

Foundation supports students financially and academically by awarding high

achieving high school seniors with college scholarships and by concurrently

sponsoring education-related service activities. To date, the Foundation has

organized fifteen events and secured over $40,000 in donations. This past

month, the RVF awarded two high school seniors with $10,000 in scholarships

after a rigorous review process. The RVF maintains a readership of over 1,000 subscribers and a team of 13

The RVF Volleyball Invitational

Passaic Valley High School hosted its second annual RVF

Invitational Tournament in late March last year to kick off

their season. This year, the school plays host to nine other

local teams in an effort to prepare for their lengthy season

ahead. Come support PV! All net proceeds from conces-

sions will be donated towards the 2015 RVF Scholarship

Award and the Colin McNeill Scholarship Fund. If you would

like to volunteer at the event, please let us know:

The RVF DC Happy Hour

Tentative: Late April

The Ralph Verde Foundation is organizing a happy hour event in Washington DC which will offer inexpensive

food and drink deals and raffled prizes. Visit our website in the coming weeks for further details.

In 2013, the RVF set out to realign its mission with serving as a mentorship resource to high school students. In January 2014, the Foundation organized its fourth seminar, this time in New York City, teaching high school students about the opportunities higher education provides. Six RVF volunteers partnered with University Neighborhood High School faculty to coach students on all areas of the college application proc-ess, including the college search process, the application itself, and resume building.

Consistent with the RVF’s mission to promote student achievement and academic excellence, the RVF has created a new division - Programming - which will focus on organizing and executing similar educational events on a consistent basis throughout our three key regions - NYC, DC, and NJ.
