INTRODUCTION
What is Minaret?
• nexus approach
• Bottom-up approach: catalyzing the
role municipalities
• To demonstrate NEXUS projects can:
- solve water, energy and food security challenges;
- provide economic, social and environmental value.

The one of the first Projects in the region
NEXUS is:
1. Process-oriented
a) It pinpoints us to where and how we can do more with less.
b) It shows us un or underutilized opportunities.
2. Solutions-orientedBalancing for win-win: finding Synergies & tradeoffs

MINARET Project Timeline Overview
Back to Outline
Why Is this Project a Game-Changer?
1. Minaret’s NEXUS is using and value-chain mapping as a tool to identify and understand the process flow of nexus projects
which act as a multiplier to achieve social, environmental and economic value.
2. Hence, Municipalities and the communities replicate and expand NEXUS projects.
3. Other municipalities in the MENA region use NEXUS & value chain approach to implement NEXUS and climate action projects.
Why Is this Project a Game-Changer?
1. Minaret is positioned as the expert in using NEXUS and climate investment-grade projects to move municipalities out of debt.
2. Municipalities and the community replicate and expand NEXUS projects.
3. Other municipalities in the region use Minaret’s planning & financing approach to implement NEXUS and climate projects.
Planning & Finance for Municipalities
What the Covenant of Mayors Can Do!
• The main aim is to help municipalities identify investment
opportunities, and attract investors
• Also limited abilities to invest and borrow funds to support
local investments
Membership of Covenant of
Mayors
Gain Access to a large Network
Setting plans on quantifiable data
Effective planning and tracking during
Implementation
Minaret utilizes Covenant of Mayors as a platform to enable longer term climate action planning and implementation of projects.
Covenant signatories
commit to submitting,
within two years following
the date of the local
council decision, a
Sustainable Energy and
Climate Action Plan
(SECAP) outlining the key
actions
Quantitative analysis
Establishing a baseline
Identifying clear
indicators of improvements
Tools for tracking and monitoring

INITIAL THOUGHTS AND SECURING GRANT
• Initial plan was set to equip 10,000 farming units with Solar PV
Pumping Systems
LACK OF FINANCING!!!
• USD 7.6M was secured through the EU funded project “Renewable
Energy and Energy Efficiency Program II”
• The 7.6M will be utilized to equip 320 farming units with Solar
Pumping Systems
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
• 214 water pumps in the Jordan Valley and 106 pumps in the highlands
(Azraq, Mafraq and Madaba) to be equipped with Solar Photovoltaic
Systems
• Inefficient pumps to be replaced

ENGINEERING
• Load study and detailed design of solar water pumps and examine the
efficiency of existed pumps, to achieve the right sizing of the systems
• A socioeconomic survey among farmers to complete the analysis of
farmers’ irrigation practices and perceptions related to solar water
pumping
