Letter from the PresidentHello Neighbors!!What is there not to love about spring time? You can see almost overnight the buds appearing on the trees. The hint of green as the hyacinths, daffodils and tulips peek out of the ground. Spring is such a refreshing time of the year when things begin to feel new and fresh and possibilities linger in the air. I wake up now to the soft chirping of birds and the quietness of grass growing. And speaking of grass, I want to thank my wonderful neighbor, Robert (and his lawn care service) for keeping making my lawn look like a million dollars! Thank you Bob!! And, thanks to all of you for doing your part to keep your home and North Rosedale Park beautiful.

Events in April/May that were outstanding: Baseball Opening Day & Parade – a great spring tradition! Great Job!! Grandmont Rosedale Open House (thank you Cheryl Davis for chairing this event and for all the volunteers who came out and helped). I hear we had a fabulous crowd that came to see some beautiful homes. THANK YOU everyone for a job well done!!!

Events that have not yet occurred as of this writing but are coming up fast are the Landlord/Tenant Rights and Responsibilities workshop, our Tiger’s Baseball outing, Motor City Makeover and the opening of the Farmer’s Market. I look forward to participating and hope I will have a chance to see you there. We also will have had our first Chess Tournament chaired by board member, Kimberly Dorsey. This is an exciting first for our youth and the kick off to our newly formed chess club. Thank you Kim!!

Finally, I hope to have met all or most of our new neighbors at our annual New Neighbor Meet n Greet!! Thank you to the NRPCA Block Club Captains and board member, Beverly Frederick for spearheading this event.

By Roger Loeb

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE is about a divine intervention by a guardian angel sent to help a compassionate but despairing man. George Bailey is about to take his own life, and an Angel is needed down on earth in order to save him. Clarence, a down-on-his-luck angel, yet to earn his wings, is selected by the senior angels.

You have probably seen this 1946 film starring Jimmy Stewart and

Donna Reed. It is regularly televised, usually around Christmas time. But you assuredly have not seen the Peter Church version: It's a Wonderful Life: On the Air. This new play is a radio version of the film classic, replete with commercials, jingles, and sound effects. It will be presented by the Park Players in November, 2016, just before the holidays. You will learn about "fading" - the auditory illusion of

movement which is created by actors moving closer or further away from the mic. And "filtering" – altering the vocal quality by means of reverb or by speaking into a coffee can.

Auditions for speaking and for singing roles will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 7 (7:00pm) and on Sunday, Sept. 11 (1:00pm). Check back here later in the summer for additional details.

The Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market Opens Thursday, June 2 for the 2016 Season!Ready for the goodness that is local, fresh produce? We are! This year we will have seven, count them again, seven produce vendors! Six operated within Detroit! Produce vendors include Artesian Farms Detroit, Beaverland Farms, Brightmoor Youth Garden, Detroit Market Garden (by the Greening of Detroit), Eastern Market Farm Stand, Good Medicine Farm and Voices for Earth Justice Farm.

The Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market opens on Thursday, June 2nd from 4-8pm! There will be food trucks, produce, baked goods, artesian crafts, youth activities, free health screenings, and more on opening day. Stop by the North Rosedale Park Community House located at 18445 Scarsdale any Thursday evening from 4-8pm from June 2 until mid-October to pick up your fresh produce, locally cut flowers, or simply to say help to your neighbors!

Stay up to date on all market events by “liking” us on Facebook. For more information about the 2016 Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market season please contact Market Manager Chelsea Neblett at [email protected] or by calling 313-387- 4732 x 103.

Broken Wheel, Iowa, has never seen anyone like Sara, who traveled all the way from Sweden just to meet her book-loving pen pal, Amy. When she arrives, however, she finds Amy's funeral guests just leaving. The residents of Broken Wheel are happy to look after their bewildered visitor-there's not much else to do in a dying small town that's almost beyond repair.

You certainly wouldn't open a bookstore. And definitely not with the tourist in charge. You'd need a vacant storefront (Main Street is full of them), books (Amy's house is full of them), and...customers.

The bookstore might be a little quirky. Then again, so is Sara. But Broken Wheel's own story might be more eccentric and surprising than she thought.A heartwarming reminder of why we are book lovers, this is a sweet, smart story about how books find us, change us, and connect us.

Pilates at the Community House

with Lyn Scharret-Certified Pilates InstructorPilates dramatically transforms the way your body looks, feels and performs. This integrated exercise system combines elements from gymnastics, yoga, weight training and breath work to build strength without bulk and create a sleek, toned body.

In conventional workouts, weak muscles tend to get weaker and strong muscles tend to get stronger. The result is muscular imbalance-a primary cause of injury and chronic back pain. Pilates also gives you better body awareness, so all your workouts can be more effective. Since it is a gentle, low-impact form of exercise, it is well suited for most age groups and fitness levels.

FREE TRIAL CLASS – Wednesday, June 8, 5:30 pmIn the Mezzanine of the North Rosedale Park Community House

18445 Scarsdale St, Detroit Michigan 48223
