“Working at Santa Teresita has helped me to reinforce my faith and devotion to God. God bless the hard work and dedication that the Sisters provide to the sick.” William’s wife, Nelly, also works with the Carmelite Sisters, serving our Elderly Sisters at Casa Convent on the campus of Santa Teresita. “My journey to get closer to God started a few years ago when I would go to Mass and always felt the urge to know more and be closer to God.” In 2016, Paulina signed up for R.C.I.A. classes and shortly after started working at Santa Teresita Manor. “Anytime I mentioned to any of the Sisters about doing my sacraments, they were all so excited for me which in turn, made me even more excited. I almost cried the day Sister Therese brought me some books to learn more. I felt overjoyed that someone was as excited and interested for me to do my sacraments.” SANTA TERESITA’S BI-MONTHLY NEWSLETTER APRIL/MAY 2018 Rose 819 Buena Vista Street, Duarte, California 91010 | 626.408. 7810 | www.santa-teresita.org | [email protected] Marian Concert with Credo Catholic Choir and the Carmelite Sisters Tuesday, May 29th, 7:00 p.m. | St. Joseph Chapel Free-will offering to go towards a new organ for the Chapel. Cats CornerSanta Teresita through the Eyes of Pepa and Angie

Our fi rst full month here in our new life at Santa Teresita was very... wet. March brought so much rain! The Sisters seemed to think it was a great blessing. When the sun fi nally came out, we took the opportunity to soak up a few rays.

Honoring Mom on Mother’s DayNancy and Rebecca on their mother, Sheila Feghali (may she rest in peace), who was a resident at Santa Teresita Manor in 2013 What do you most appreciate about your mother? She always wanted the best for people. She wanted everyone to be happy and to make sure no one was left out. She also loved to entertain, and it was always, the more the merrier.

Best piece of advice from your mom: You only have one name, so don’t let anything ruin it.

What was one of the most embarrassing things that your mother ever did? There were quite a few embarrassing moments that my mom put us through. They are what we refer to as Sheila-isms. One of the most notable is that she found someone in the phonebook with the same last name as us. Feghali is not a common name and so my mom picked up the phone and called this young man. As children, we were mortifi ed that she was calling a complete stranger to ask if he could be related to us. While we were not related, my mom still invited the young man, who had just moved to the U.S., to our home for dinner. My mom had a big heart, especially if she found out you didn’t have family nearby. It ended up being the start of a friendship that lasted more than 35 years. Our mom was unforgettable. She provided us with so many memorable moments. Sometimes they were embarrassing and others just loving. I’m glad that we have those memories to remind us of her generosity and love.
