Mission Trip Opportunity!!

Who: Volunteers in the Rome – Carrollton District

What: Disaster relief from Hurricane Matthew in North Carolina

When: June 24 – 30, 2018

Where: Lumberton, North Carolina

How: Contact Cindi Hicks, team leader, by email [email protected]

or text 706-233-2286

The Bishop has asked each of the districts in the North Georgia Conference to

send a work team to help in the ongoing recovery in the North Carolina District from Hurricane Matthew. The Rome – Carrollton District is sending a team to

Lumberton, NC to help in this disaster response.

There are many jobs for many ability levels, but the focus is either cleaning up from damage caused by the storm or helping in the rebuilding of homes.

The team is open to people 14 years and older. However, youth attending must have at least one parent or guardian for every five youth age 14-17.

Housing is provided at a local church at no cost, but we will be responsible for food. I will need someone who can help in the kitchen. I will let the team know

about cost of food when we know how many are on the team.

When you sign up for the team, I will send you a skills assessment for you to

complete and return to me. Other forms will follow when we have an estab-lished team.

Be in prayer if this is a trip that God has called you for. Then, answer the call to sign up for the team by notifying me at the above email or text by March

16, 2018. Please include your name, local church, and contact information. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Looking forward to serving with the team God calls!

Greetings! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that your 2018 is off to a great start. As I'm sure you know, the 2018 Homeless Offering is right around the corner! The Offering is scheduled for February 25, but your congregation is welcome to collect it at any time that works for you. Your church should have received your offering materials. If you need more materials, you are welcome to contact me andI will send them to you. It is our promise to you that 100% of the gifts collected through the Homeless Offering will be used to support agencies and minis-tries across north Georgia who are working to support our neighbors in need. If you would like for someone to the council to speak to your congregation regarding the Offering and the work that we do, please contact me. We thank you so much for your support of the Homeless Offering and for the difference you are making in the lives of countless people!

Sincerely,

UMCOR Sunday is right around the corner. This churchwide special Sunday with offering provides United Methodists the opportunity to help our brothers and sisters around the world in their time of need. Our generous gifts through the UMCOR Sunday offering support the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief. UMCOR provides immediate assistance in the wake of disasters and participates in ongoing ministries of food, shelter, health and peace. On March 11, our congregations will receive this special offering that ensures that when a crisis happens, 100 percent of giving for that disaster goes to those in need.

Download the UMCOR Sunday Pastor and Leader's Kit and use the free resources to help celebrate and promote this special Sunday.
