Roman Soldiers

The Roman army was made up of groups of soldiers called legions. There were over 5,000 soldiers in a legion.

The Roman army was divided into legions of about 5,000 men.

Julius CaesarJulius Caesar was born on July 13 100 B.C. He was a great soldier and general.

He was stabbed to death at a meeting of the Senate in 44 BC and the era of the Republic ended.

In 55 B.C. Caesar, with 80 ships and 80.000 men, tried to invade England but he didn't succeed.

Augustus was the nephew of Caesar and the first Emperor of Rome.

The next year Julius came back with 800 and again he didn't succeed to conquer South-England.

Roman baths There were 170 baths in Rome during the reign of Augustus and by 300 A.D that number had increased to over 900 baths

Every town had its own bath complex (like a large swimming pool).

Rich villa owners would had their own baths in their homes.

The Romans loved washing and bathing and rather it being done in private, the Romans built magnificent public bath houses in towns across their empire.

A public bath was built around three principal rooms.

ROMAN CLOTHINGMen wore a knee-length tunic (chilton), either sleeveless or short-sleeved.

Important Romans dressed in a long robe called a toga.

Children wore a special charm around their neck called a bulla.
