First Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a
In seeking a King for the Israelites, Samuel traveled to Jesse of Bethlehem, who had seven sons. Commanded by God to ignore the elder sons, Samuel anointed the youngest, David.
Second Reading: Ephesians 5:8-14
Paul exhorts the Ephesians to live as “children of light” in goodness and truth and to avoid evil deeds “done in darkness.”
Gospel: John 9:1-41
Jesus performs the miracle of giving sight to the man born blind. Because Jesus performed this miracle on the Sabbath, the Pharisees called him a “sinner,” but the blind man said, “He is a prophet.” Jesus later reveals to the blind man that He is the Son of Man.
MARCH 26, 2017: FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly Fourth Sunday of Lent March 26, 2017 “There was a time when you were in darkness but now you are light in the Lord. Well, then, live as children of light. Light produces every kind of goodness, and justice and truth…. Then he told him, ‘Go wash in the pool of Siloam.’ (This name means ‘One who has been sent.’”) With the coming of spring, days become longer and darkness fades. St. Paul tells his readers that they are children of the light. Jesus told us we are the light of the world. We recognize our role through our good works, our efforts to make a just society, and walking with Jesus who is the way, truth and life. How common it is for us to look for a place to charge our telephones, renew the power in our ipad, or charge our battery. Sadly people fight to plug their charger and renew their telephone, computer or game. Lent is to produce the same effect. The light can become stronger as we strive for goodness, justice and truth. Lent is meant to restore power, or grace, fully. Lent is our opportunity to be and remain connected. We are to be charged by the Lord and radiate His presence.

This weekend: Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Collection
From Cardinal Dolan:
By participating in the Catholic Relief Services collection, you are responding to Jesus in disguise in some of the most marginalized communities in our world. Catholic Relief Service collection provides service for immigrants, humanitarian aid in the wake of natural disasters, refuge for the displaced, and advocacy for peace and justice around the world. Let us join together in this special collection to support those who are suffering and are on the margins of society.
For example, in Niger, changes in climate in Western Africa are adversely affecting poor and rural farmers. No matter how hard these farmers work, droughts are shortening the rainy season, leaving harvests too small to support families and communities. Your support of the CRS collection is helping connect businesses that provide drought-resistant seeds to these communities. These new relationships are providing hope to these communities for a sustainable future.
Your support of the CRS collection makes a difference for so many around the world. Please prayerfully consider how you can support it this year. If you want to learn more about the collection and the people who benefit, please visit www.usccb.org/catholic-relief.
The Cardinal’s Appeal is shaping our future church
through its support of the Department of Education,
which serves more than 88,000 students from pre-K
through twelfth grade. Our youth are taught
coursework in Catholic religious and sacramental
preparation and are also provided with service opportunities. In addition, our catechetical
programs allow for over 93,000 young people and adults to shape, strengthen and fully
recognize their bond with the Lord and His Church. Please help sustain these educational
programs by making your pledge to the Appeal today. Your
commitment along with the 92 gifts already received in the
amount of $33,160 will help us reach our parish goal of $78,500.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
Hell exists, and many people go there. Our Blessed Mother at Fatima showed the children a vision of Hell on July 13, 1917, where the souls of poor sinners go. What they saw frightened the children very much. Fortunately, on May 13, 1717, Our Blessed Mother had already told the children that they would go to Heaven.
At Fatima, Our Blessed Mother gave the children the prayer we now say after each decade of the rosary: “Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven especially those in most need of thy mercy.” Please pray the rosary with great fervor every day.
April 1 is the next First Saturday. Please join us at 8:00 am Mass followed by the Rosary at OLPH.
