WARIALDA VISIT - DROUGHT SUPPORT VISIT How does one begin to describe the hope buried deep within the human spirit to press-on and keep fighting for your family, your land and your community in the face of Mother Nature’s most extreme climatic circumstances? This is what struck me so vividly during our recent visit to Warialda. Loaded up with all the wonderful gifts and items donated by the school community, we departed school last Thursday in the company of our students representatives from the North Rocks Social Justice Team, Levi, Jesse and Nathan of Year 6 who joined with Mrs Silver, Mrs Welsby, Mrs Hayman and I for an amazing couple of days in far North-West NSW. Arriving at Warialda Public School, the sense of excitement amongst their students was contagious as stu-dents assisted the unloading the vehicles. This was reflected in one child’s comment that, “This is going to be the best Christmas ever.” From the school, our group visited the farm of Scott and Angela Stewart, a local family running a large farming business about 40 kilometres out of town near a place called Coolatai. The farm has been in the family since 1880. Angela and her neighbour Amy, along with their children gave us a tour of the property to see firsthand how the drought continues to ravage their land and lifestyle. This area has not seen proper rain for almost two years, and 2018 is on track to being the driest year on record for the region. Understandably, things are very difficult, but that flame of hope, optimism and determination to get through as ‘the rains will eventually come’ burns so intensely in these wonderful people. Working with the social-justice team and through the work of Levi, Jesse and Nathan, it was such a privilege to share the gener-osity of the North Rocks Public School community with the Warialda community and be part of an initiative that proves Australi-ans will always look out for our mates. In fact, the gift packs numbered enough that we could also share them with neighbouring schools such as Delungra, Pallamallawa and Gravesend Public Schools, all of whom were very appreciative as well. Can I thank our school community once again for their generosity and willingness to lend a hand, and we pray that the rain does come to these communities very soon.

A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL OF WARIALDA PUBLIC SCHOOL Dear staff, students, parents and wider school community, On behalf of the Warialda Public School community, I wanted to extend our most sincere appreciation for the incredibly generous donations made to us. Today, our students each received their care packages and I only wish your school could have witnessed the response. Our students were totally overwhelmed and in shock that students whom they have never met could have made such a genuine effort to do something so sincere and thoughtful. The closest description I could give is to say that it was much like watching children unwrap Christmas presents - sheer delight. In addition to our school students each receiving their care packages, I have also forwarded the balance of packages to Delungra Public School, Pallamallawa Public School and Gravesend Public School. Each of these schools are also very much in drought im-pacted areas and the teachers are extremely appreciative of the packages. We strategically packaged the food and remaining gifts and sent these home to families who we know are heading into the Festive Season in a fairly desperate state. The three young men who visited our school from NRPS for our drought relief twilight concert have lead an amazing initiative and one that should inspire us all. They have taught us that no matter how old we are, where we live or who we are, we can do some-thing positive that can make the lives of others better. We look forward to working together with you in the future! Kind regards, Dan van Velthuizen Principal Warialda Public School

GOODBYE YEAR 6, 2018 Congratulations to the students of Year 6, 2018 for your efforts and success throughout the year. We have enjoyed taking the learning journey with you over the past seven years and as you now move into high school, we ask that you remain committed to making the most of every opportunity that comes your way. Your success in life is a direct result of the choices you make and the path you choose to follow, and remember that you can achieve anything your heart desires. We wish Year 6 every success and may their future education produce long-lasting happiness and fulfilment. Mr Rob Ieroianni Principal

Student Transport Information

School student applications for 2019 open from Monday, 15 October 2018.

Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 do not need to re-apply if they:

· are continuing at the same school · are residing at the same address

· have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2018 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2018, the system will automatically cancel a card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nomi-nated postal address. Cards will be mailed out during December 2018 and January 2019.
