Dear TRC,

At the end of 2011 I knew God was calling us to set out toward Greater Things in 2012. It was an assignment I felt the Holy Spirit was working within our church, at great depths. I know you sensed it also, and this is what made last year so special. We dubbed 2012 the year of Greater Things at the beginning, and it proved to be so!!!

When you look inside this annual report, I think you will see the underpinning of a church stepping into Greater Things. We saw “greater” in so many areas of our church, statistically speaking. I know sometimes reading statistics can lead us to think only about the numbers, however, every number at The Rock Church has a face and name. Always remember every face crafted by God and every name cared for by God, is the target of our mission, Connecting People to LIFE.

Many components of Connecting People to LIFE, and our future were locked in place as this church readied itself for the next years in ministry. I am certain of a great foundation. I am also certain of a wonderful opportunity. The Rock Church has not been positioned in our history like we are today. I am thankful.

I am grateful for the people who invested resources in TRC. You who continue to give faithfully, year in and year out, are doing so much more than you realize. It is my prayer for you to always see a glimpse, at differing times throughout the year, of where your giving matters. And it does matter, BIG!

You also matter to me. TRC is what it is because of the people who are growing as disciples of Jesus Christ. I am so blessed to be the Pastor of TRC, your pastor. I value you so much and consider it a great honor to tell you, through this report, what was done with your money given to The Rock Church. It is my desire this report continues to build trust between those who give to TRC and those who manage the finances of TRC.

The Pastor’s Council, Board of Directors, Executive Pastor Rory Tongg, many volunteers and myself oversee and work together to strategize, make decisions, and manage every aspect of TRC payables and gifts received. No one, especially Rory and I, makes decisions independently of these teams. Furthermore, our finances are looked over and compiled annually by Battershell and Nichols, an independent accounting firm. My goal, with all of these people involved in TRC money, is to set precedence for you that I am never alone when leading TRC, especially the finances. This structure leads, guides and gives way to the Lord’s blessing upon this church in 2013 and beyond.

I am expecting God for a growing 2013, and if the spring is an indicator of the rest of the year, hang on, because God’s best is yet to come for The Rock Church! I can’t wait!

OUTREACH, LOCAL AND GLOBAL MISSIONSThis is how our church makes a dierence in our city and the world. In some cases these funds are driven to help people immediately connected to our church, and in other cases we partner with other ministries already doing it better than we ever could. When you give to The Rock Church, more than 10% goes into specifically reaching people far from God and supporting other churches and ministeries who are doing the same. In 2012, we invested 11.4% in these directions.

BENEVOLENCE FOR PEOPLE: Connecting People to LIFE sometimes calls us to help people with shelter, food, water and even diapers. We try and help as many who have need, however we prioritize those who are active in The Rock Church.

CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY: We wound down our Wednesday night meeting at Central Washington University in 2012, but a lasting impact was made in the lives of those students who were a part of the outreach we did in 2011-2012.

NIGHT OF HOPE: TRC was a leading sponsor in reaching the Northwest region by partnering with Joel Osteen’s Night of Hope in Key arena in January 2012.

ADOPT-A-BLOCK: This outreach feeds hundreds of people in Monroe weekly by gleaning food. The food is donated, but supplies are needed. In Ellensburg this outreach feeds neighborhoods a hot meal and gives groceries when available. This figure does not include transportation costs like fuel, insurance and maintenance.

EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY OUTREACH: The Rock Church presence at Evergreen Speedway put our church in front of 202,000 people in 2012. We have a display car under the grandstands, Jack Night at the races with food and dunk tank and occasionally help one of the many drivers who display the RC logo on their race car.

LIFE SHIRTS: Our annual tee shirts are worn all over the region.

HOPETOWN TOY GIVEAWAY: Annually the people who are a part of TRC bring in hundreds of Christmas gifts to give to families in need. These funds add to the gifts given to ensure we have enough wrapping paper, and all items for serving those who show up for the big Hopetown Giveaway. This is one of our longest running outreaches at The Rock Church.

BIG PARADE DAY: The Monroe Fair Days parade is a long-standing outreach where people from The Rock Church give away school supplies by the bag.

TURKEY DINNER OUTREACH: 1,248 people received a turkey dinner this year. The food is donated directly from people. The teams at TRC assemble the bags and give out the complete dinners to families who may not otherwise have a Thanksgiving meal. This is our longest running outreach at The Rock Church. We’ve fed 10’s of thousands of families in our history.

We believe in having world-class communicators come to The Rock Church to speak to our teams and people. This investment continually exposes us to some of the best ministries in the world. In addition, we put resources in the hands of these able ministers who we know do the work of the ministry.

A21 CAMPAIGN: We are committed to be an active part in stopping sex trafficking. We have been partnered with A21, White Lotus House and Shared Hope International for a couple years through the Rock the Shoe Auction at our annual Jill Conference. Total raised and given to end sex slavery since 2010, $9,718.

GIFTS FOR MISSIONARY KIDS: Pastor Melinda has a passion to bless the kids of our friends who are on the mission field. We try to never miss a year where we send Christmas gifts to the children of these friends.

SHARE IN ASIA CHRISTMAS PROJECT: We’ve supported this ministry in India for nearly a decade. Since the year 2000, we’ve given over $25,957 to Share in Asia.

“A few years ago, Purdy Women’s Prison in Gig Harbor

opened the way for us to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to

those incarcerated. Five years ago we were also invited to

begin a ministry at Mission Creek Correctional Center in Port

Angeles. Weekly, women come to Christ, learn God’s Word

and receive spiritual healing that not only impacts their lives

but the lives of their families.

Another emphasis of the ministry is to build a strong inside

leadership team; women who have chosen to not only

grow in their walk with the Lord but to be equipped to make

disciples from the women God has placed around them. We

are now preparing for our annual conferences within each

prison. We will be with the women for three days at Purdy in

June and two days at Mission Creek in August.

Again this year, we have great anticipation for how God is

going to minister in each life as the women come to Him.

Lives are changed, miracles happen, preaching of the Word

is powerful and worship brings healing to each heart. Many

women are now being released and are continuing to walk

with God. We just received permission and training for one

of our inside team members, released three years ago,

to now return as part of our ministry team. This not only

encourages our team but the women who yet remain in

prison are so blessed to hear and see how God can change

a life for His Glory.”

TRC ministries are where we minister on and beyond the Sunday Worship Experience for those who attend The Rock Church. These ministries are the heart and soul of TRC providing great connection points, events, gatherings and tons of fun. These ministries build community, they build people from the youngest to the oldest. Even though some of the events and ministries fund themselves via registration, designated giving or product sales, a significant portion of these funds comes directly from the weekly giving at The Rock Church.

OTHER TRC MINISTRIES: These funds are spread over a variety of ministries like Jack and Jill, Connect Groups, Equip Nights, First Impressions, Racing Outreach, Assimilation Process, Generosity Progression and the miscellaneous ministries of TRC.

HOSPITALITY, APPRECIATION AND GIFTS GIVEN: At The Rock Church we like to give gifts to those who come for the first-time, or give their lives to Christ. We also like to bless our volunteers with small gifts at different times throughout the year. If you’ve been a part of The Rock Church, you know food—Sunday, teamLIFE, events, and other times—is a big part of all our gatherings and accounts for over 50% of this budget.

STUDENT MINISTRY (51 STUDENT AVERAGE PER WEEK IN 2012): It is very apparent by the gifted Jr. and High School students at TRC how important these dollars are. These funds do not include compensation for the oversight of the ministry, but instead, these dollars are used for food, fellowship, camp, give-aways, services, production and whatever else is required to have a top notch student ministry.

TRC INTERNSHIP: The internship is a powerful ministry within The Rock Church for students in High School (summer internship) and students just graduated (one-year program). This is a great place where gifts are discovered and released for God’s purposes.

LIFESAVERS CHILDREN’S MINISTRY (135 CHILDREN AVERAGE PER WEEK IN 2012): Every week our volunteers take great care of our kids and teach them the Bible. These funds go directly to facilitating the Sunday Children’s Experience, they do not go for compensation or capital improvement; those funds are allocated in personnel and building categories.

2012 FINANCE STATSGod has continued to be faithful to The Rock Church. The fresh culture of Connecting People to LIFE has gained traction leading to growth, health and a renewed sense of mission. The finances are now shiing, and 2012 was a challenging year, but good signs are all around. For instance, even though we saw a decline of 15% in our giving income, we grew in attendance, new guests, people giving for the first time, people connected mid-week to Equip Nights , Revival IX and now Connect Groups. All the trends are healthy, so going forward we expect the finances to shi also. Frankly, we are absolutely committed to seeing this church advancing as God has called it to! A small indication the Lord is with us is the sale of our Lake Stevens property to help oset the decrease in 2012.

TRC voluntarily submits itself to an annual compilation of our finances by an outside accounting firm, Battershell and Nichols.

$111,973LIFE OFFERING 2012

In it’s 2nd year, the LIFE Oering was an important part of accomplishing some specific vision in 2012. Ultimately becoming a life-line for the general budget in some exceptionally lean summer months.

WHAT THE LIFE OFFERING ACCOMPLISHED:

WEEKLY GIVING $77,264

LIFESAVER’S CHILDRENS WING IMPROVEMENTS $11,865

AUDIO UPGRADES $11,423

CASCADE COMMUNITY CHURCH $10,000

LOBBY CARPET REMOVAL $1,421

WEEKLY GIVING: We started off the LIFE Offering with some audacious plans to renovate the children’s wing, upgrade worship center audio system, remove carpet in the lobby and, if needed, shore up the weekly giving budget in the months following should it decrease because of the LIFE Offering. What happened in May, June, July, August and September was unexpected and more challenging than anticipated. In these months the weekly giving declined a grand total of $120,593 under planned budget. The Board of Directors made good on the commitment to use the available balance of the LIFE Offering to make up the weekly giving deficit, and announced this decision at an August 9th public meeting.

LIFESAVER’S CHILDRENS WING IMPROVEMENTS: The children’s wing was initially to be completed in summer of 2012, but difficult circumstances postponed the project and changed the scope. Instead of opening up three classrooms, the Lifesaver’s team proposed opening two. This solution was a less expensive option, giving the same results. The construction was completed in spring of 2013.

AUDIO UPGRADES: The main worship center received some needed upgrades to the audio system prior to Easter in 2012.

CASCADE COMMUNITY CHURCH: The LIFE Offering gave Cascade $10,000 for their building because we believe in giving to local churches in our region.

LOBBY CARPET REMOVAL: The 8-year old stained carpet was removed from the lobby, the concrete sanded and polished.
