February 2013
Please mark your calendars for some exciting send-off events for our KWSC competitors. On
Saturday February 9th, our STARSkate Championships competitors will be performing a dress
rehearsal “simulations” and send-off beginning at 11:00 am. Then on Saturday February
16th starting at 6:30 pm we will be hosting a Worlds Send Off. Please join us to cheer on our
pair skaters Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch, and Brittany Jones and Ian Beharry
as they prepare for the World Figure Skating Championships, and World Junior Figure Skating
Championships, respectively. These simulations play an important part of our skaters’
competitive preparedness, so we hope you can come out and support them. Tickets are FREE
available NOW in the KWSC office for the Worlds Send off event Feb 16.

YEAR END CELEBRATIONS – SAVE THE DATE! To celebrate the end of the skating season for our skaters, KWSC will be organizing two separate events. For
all recreational program skaters, (Parent and Tot, Pre-Canskate, CanSkate, Enrichment and Learn to Skate),
there will be a “Bring-A-Friend Fun Skate” on Saturday, March 24, 2013 at the Carolyn Fedy Skating
Centre at RIM Park. Each skater will receive an invitation with details. Important note: KWSC is required to
follow Skate Canada’s Helmet Policy for this event. ALL skating guests, who are not active Skate Canada
Members, MUST wear a CFSA approved HOCKEY helmet. KWSC recreational skaters and skating guests
who are active Skate Canada Members but lower than stage 5 must also wear CFSA approved hockey hel-
mets. There will be NO exceptions to this rule!
For STAR and Competitive program skaters, there will be an on-ice production called “Celebration of
Excellence”, which will take place at CFSC on Sunday, April 14, 2013, beginning at 6:30 pm. All registered
STAR (including Rec STAR) and competitive skaters will be invited to participate in one of several group
skating numbers, and there will also be many feature performances recognizing some of the most successful
skaters at the club this season, from all levels of competition. More details to come.
Volunteers will be required for both events. If you are interested in helping out in any way, please email
Stefanie Wright, committee chair, at [email protected]. Your dedication to help our skaters is greatly
appreciated!
Skater Spotlight Sonia is 7 years old. She loves figure skating and is always eager to learn new
skills. She is an enthusiastic and industrious skater. Sonia started skating when she
was four at the CanSkate level. Now she is in the Junior Star and Dance Pair
programs.
"I like figure skating because it is fun and there are a lot of beautiful elements. My
favourite things are jumps and skills. I like music for my solo, it is very pretty. My
dream is to take part in the World Championships and become an Olympic
Champion some day."
Sonia took part in the Rock the Ice Show 2011, KWSC Showcase 2011, Summer
Sizzle competition, KWSC FreeSkate Festival 2012. She is planning to compete at
the Western Ontario Section STARSkate Championships and Futures in February
and March. Sonia Kagolovskaya awarded with
the gold medal at KWSC FreeSkate Festival 2012
KWSC is very excited to be
launching a program for our
male skaters Sunday April
28 and Sunday May 26 the
program will take part on
and off the ice coached by
current national team
member Dylan Moscovitch.
Dylan and his partner
Kirsten Moore-Towers were
2011 National Pairs
champions and are fresh off
of a silver medal at the 2013 National Championships
and will be representing Canada at the World
Championships in March in London, Ontario. This is
a great opportunity for the boys of the KWSC to meet
all the other boys in the club and learn some training
techniques and strategies from one of our own success
stories. The boys will also have an opportunity to try
some pairs and ice dance elements with a partner
during the session. Registration will be available on
all STAR and Competitive forms.
