Choose COBLATION™ Technology for all your turbinate reduction procedures COBLATION Plasma Technology works through the creation and application of a high-energy field called ‘glow discharge plasma.’ This controlled plasma field ablates tissue through a chemical process whereby the highly-energized particles in the plasma break down molecules in the tissue, immediately vaporizing mass and providing resistive heating.

BENEFITS OF COBLATION TECHNOLOGY

n Precise soft tissue removal1

n Integrated hemostasis

n Settings can be fine-tuned

n Lower temperatures than other RF-based systems1

n 100μm – 200μm plasma field1 (about the size of a human hair)

COBLATION plasma technology on soft tissue

The term COBLATION means ‘controlled ablation.’ Since the introduction of COBLATION tonsillectomy wands in 1998, the proven patented COBLATION technology has been used in more than 10 million procedures by surgeons in ear, nose and throat (ENT) and various areas of medical specialty.2

Unique anatomies call for unique solutionsMinimally invasive hypertrophic turbinate procedures can be efficiently performed in the operating room or in office settings. Smith & Nephew’s comprehensive turbinate portfolio includes three options that allow you to customize treatment for every patient’s unique anatomy.

COBLATION™ TURBINATOR™ Turbinate Reduction Wand

The TURBINATOR turbinate reduction wand is designed to allow for fast and efficient submucosal resection with built-in bipolar coag.

n Immediate and visible removal of submucosal tissue

n Targeted hemostasis with bipolar coagulation feature

COBLATION™ REFLEX ULTRA™ PTR and ULTRA 45 Turbinate Reduction Wands

COBLATION treatment for hypertrophic turbinates results in immediate removal of central turbinate tissue and continued postoperative contraction of additional tissue for best-in-class results.3

n May treat anterior and posterior aspects of the turbinate

n REFLEX PTR: Two depth markers assist positioning and visibility with pointed tip

n REFLEX 45: Three depth markers assist in positioning and visibility with blunt tip

When utilizing the MicroMotion technique, the REFLEX ULTRA PTR and REFLEX ULTRA 45 Wands consistently produced larger lesion sizes than the Olympus Celon ProBreath device. The REFLEX family of wands allows the user f lexibility in their procedure by utilizing the static technique for smaller lesion size, or the Micro-Motion technique for enhanced tissue removal.3

COBLATION™ REFLEX ULTRA™ Wand Performance

COBLATION REFLEX ULTRA Wand Performance

The REFLEX™ ULTRA™ 45 and REFLEX ULTRA PTR Wands generate plasma through COBLATION technology to immediately vaporize tissue, unlike competitive radiofrequency devices, and create a thermal lesion for continued postoperative tissue contraction.

COBLATION Technology outperforms a leading mechanical resection microdebrider4

The TURBINATOR wand’s use of advanced COBLATION plasma technology allows it to reduce hypertrophic turbinates more quickly than competitive devices.1 The addition of bipolar coag helps further expedite surgical procedures by allowing bleeding to be addressed intraoperatively with the wand.

When comparing the COBLATION TURBINATOR wand to the Medtronic® 2.0mm and 2.9mm Microdebrider® Blades, the TURBINATOR wand performed significantly faster in terms of volumetric tissue removal rate. The additional benefit of bipolar coagulation found with the wand helps to further expedite submucosal resections.4
