Gibraltar 2009Thousands of well wishers lined the streets of Gibraltar to welcome home Kaiane Aldorino, the 23-year-old local girl who was crowned Miss World in South Africa last weekend.Kaiane was selected as the most beautiful woman in the World from a fi eld of 112 fi nalists at the 59th Miss World Pageant held in Johannesburg.

AGENDA - DIARY

Well here we are, Christmas once again. Often at this time of year it’s a good opportunity to look back at the last twelve months and refl ect on the year’s events. Well, quite frankly, I’d rather not, instead I’d rather look forward to the coming year in which by all accounts we should see some kind of recovery, if not in the fi rst few months, certainly later in the year.This current recession is something of a double-edged sword, whilst there is no denying it’s been a painful experience, personally it has made us sharpen our business model, cut down on expenses, and streamline our activities. We have become less complacent regarding promotion and networking and once things do pick up we will be better placed to take advantage. In fact many businesses have become leaner and meaner, forging partnerships, and in the long run this whole episode could have a positive effect on the economic landscape of the region, which had become overly dependent on an unsustainable property and construction bubble which was always set to burst!In the meantime let’s enjoy this festive season which, despite fi nancial restraints, still promises plenty of events and activities to occupy people of all ages. In this issue of The Resident we have published details of a wide range of festive fun for everyone.Talking of festive fun, don’t forget that Tuesday, 22nd December is the draw for the Lotería de Navidad, Spain’s famous Christmas lottery, often referred to as El Gordo, The Fat One, this year’s prize pot totals a massive 2.3 billion (yes billion!) euros. The whole of Spain grinds to a halt, and everywhere you go you will hear the sound of the pupils of Madrid’s San Ildefonso school who every year sing out the numbers in a ceremony that lasts for over three hours. If you haven’t bought a ticket yet, you will fi nd that many bars, shops, restaurants, etc advertise the opportunity to buy a ‘decimo’ (tenth) of a ticket. A full ticket is 200 euros but a tenth will cost you twenty euros, with sometimes a euro or two towards a good cause added on. If you do happen to win ‘The Fat One’ apparently it is considered good luck to make a donation to your local newspaper editor! (OK, I admit it, I just made that up).Finally, the Chinese have a saying, used when wishing ill on another - “May you live in interesting times”, well here’s wishing you a Merry Christmas and an Uninteresting New Year to you all.Until next year….Ed

Bueno, aquí estamos en Navidad, una vez más. A menudo, es una buena oportunidad en esta época del año para mirar hacia atrás en los últimos doce meses y refl exionar sobre los acontecimientos del año. Bueno, francamente, yo prefi ero esperar al próximo año ya que deberíamos ver algún tipo de recuperación, si no en los primeros meses, seguramente a fi nales de año. Esta recesión actual es una especie de espada de doble fi lo, no se puede negar que ha sido una experiencia dolorosa, personalmente nos ha hecho perfeccionar nuestro modelo de negocio, reducir los gastos y racionalizar nuestras actividades. Nos hemos vuelto menos complacientes en materia de promoción y creación de redes y una vez que las cosas vuelvan a su cauce, estaremos en mejor posición para tomar ventaja. De hecho, muchas empresas se han vuelto más efi cientes con la creación de asociaciones, y a largo plazo, incluso podría tener un efecto positivo en el panorama económico de la región, que se había convertido en demasiado dependiente de una propiedad insostenible y de la burbuja de la construcción que estaba a punto de estallar! Mientras tanto vamos a disfrutar de esta temporada festiva, que, a pesar de las restricciones fi nancieras, todavía promete muchos eventos y actividades para ocupar a la gente de todas las edades. En esta edición de The Resident se han publicado detalles de una amplia gama de diversión festiva para todos. Hablando de diversión festiva, no se olvide que el Martes, 22 de diciembre es el sorteo de la Lotería de Navidad, conocida a menudo como El Gordo. El Gordo, el bote de premios de este año asciende a la cantidad de 2.3 mil millones (¡sí, mil millones!) de euros. España entera se paraliza, y donde quiera que vaya oirá el sonido de los niños de la escuela de San Ildefonso de Madrid, que cada año cantan los números en una ceremonia que dura más de tres horas. Si usted todavía no ha comprado su décimo, está a tiempo y lo podrá comprar en muchos bares, tiendas, restaurantes, etc .Un billete completo es de 200 euros, pero el décimo le costará veinte euros, a veces con un euro o dos para una buena causa. Si usted es el agraciado ganador del ‘El Gordo’,se considera de buena suerte hacer una donación al editor de su periódico local! (De acuerdo, lo admito, me lo inventé). Por último, los chinos tienen un dicho, se utiliza cuando se desea mal a otro - “Que viva tiempos interesantes”, y les deseo una Feliz Navidad y un Año Nuevo sin interés para todos ustedes. The countdown is now on for Gibraltar International Boat Show 2010 scheduled for 8 to 11 April at the multi-million pound Ocean Village marina. Meanwhile all of the dining and leisure facilities of 600-berth Ocean Village marina will be throwing their doors open to the attendant public. The marina hosts some of the best bars, restaurants and shops found in Gibraltar alongside the fi rst Gala Coral facility to house a casino, bingo club and sports betting zone under one roof. The Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society (GONHS) has welcome the fi nal outcome of the New Flame matter.GONHS has worked with the Government at all stages related to this issue, and fully supports the way the matter has been handled. While regretting the accident when it occurred, and supporting measures to avert this type of incident in the future, it is pleased with the prompt manner in which the wreck was made environmentally safe.GONHS itself was of the opinion that the

remaining wreckage, once made safe for shipping, should remain on the seabed, as removing it would cause more damage, considering also that it is already colonised by a rich diversity of marine life.It is pleased that the marine consultants, Polaris, were also of this opinion.The granting of £5.5 million in compensation is a signifi cant achievement in itself, and GONHS looks forward to seeing it being used in enhancing Gibraltar’s natural environment.

The ferry service between Spain and Gibraltar reopened Wednesday, 40 years after it was closed.A 150-seat catamaran, the Punta Europa Segundo, made the inaugural half-hour crossing from the port of Algeciras to the Rock.Spanish company, Transcoma, is to operate a daily service between the two points, aimed at tourists as well Spanish workers employed in Gibraltar.The link was closed by Franco’s government in 1969 at a time of increasing restrictions against the British territory, which included the closure of the land frontier which did not fully reopen until 1985.Its resumption was the result of talks involving Britain, Gibraltar and Spain in July as part of ongoing forum which seeks to establish areas of cooperation between

the territory and Madrid.Spanish authorities have hailed the new service - “Spain is confi dent that this example of local cooperation serves the forum’s objective to promote economic and social development of Gibraltar and the Campo area around Gibraltar”, Spain’s foreign ministry said in a statement.It said the ferry was expected to carry about half a million passengers annually.Guests on the inaugural voyage included Luis Felipe Fernandez de la Pena, director general for foreign policy at the Spanish foreign ministry, and Maria Isabel Durantes Gil, director general for commercial shipping at the Spanish development ministry.They were greeted at the quayside by Gibraltar’s transport and deputy chief minister Joe Holliday.

Estepona has its own Branch of The Royal British Legion with over one hundred members and about half as many again who regularly visit Estepona for some part of the year because they have holiday homes here but are paid-up RBL members elsewhere. As well as that, they welcome visitors to Estepona to any of their weekly meetings.Because they cover a very large area - from Estepona to Cadiz, in fact - they meet at two different venues. On the fi rst and third Tuesdays of the month the RBL meet at 12.30 at a restaurant in Estepona Port called El Cenachero which is at marina level, near Club Nautico, where an economic one course lunch is available. Some people just attend for a drink and a natter with other members and friends. On the second and fourth Tuesdays they meet at 12.30 at the restaurant called La Casona, which is on N340, on the right going towards Sabinillas from Estepona, on the next roundabout after you pass Mercadona supermarket. (When approaching from Sabanillas, La Casona is on your left, on the roundabout after the turning for Casares). An excellent three course lunch is also available there to suit all tastes, if required. If there is a fi fth Tuesday in the month offi cial Branch meetings are held on that day at La Casona where they have a separate room for meetings. Meetings begin at 12 noon on those occasions.On Friday nights they book with various restaurants, at an economic rate, for upwards of twenty members and friends to enjoy an evening meal together in pleasant surroundings. The prices range from 11 to 18 euros plus a euro tip, for a three course meal. Sometimes they also include a glass of alcohol within the price. The Social Secretary, Mick Ellis, organises the venues and their PRO sends out monthly newsletters informing everyone where it will be.On Remembrance Sunday, about fi fty fi ve members went to Gibraltar to join in the annual Remembrance Day Service there, as they do every year. About forty of them joined in the march and were inspected by the new Governor of Gibraltar, Sir Adrian Johns. The RBL President, Dr Chris Rawlinson, laid the wreath on behalf of Estepona Branch, as usual. The rest watched from the sidelines! Afterwards the Gibraltar Branch of The Royal British Legion generously entertained all those attending, to lunch at the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Mess. A coach was provided by the Estepona Branch, for all those who needed transport. On this occasion one of the Committee members, Geoff Morgan, stayed behind to attend The Costa Del Sol Church Service, in Sotogrande, to give an interesting address to the churchgoers, about the origins of Remembrance Sunday. Later he gave an interesting talk to the Rotary Club of Gibraltar on the same subject.The Estepona Branch is run by a small committee. The President, who is the

‘father fi gure’ of the Branch, with over forty years of military service as a combatant offi cer, is Dr Chris Rawlinson. The Working Committee comprises the Chairman, Chris Wright, (tel. 671 846 204) who is also involved in organising the District South annual Conference; the Secretary and ‘minute taker’ - Helen Wright; the Treasurer - Jackie McIntyre, who is also the hard working Welfare Offi cer (tel. 678 124 902); the Vice-Chairman and PRO - Heather Butler Rawlinson; the Social Secretary - Mick Ellis; and the Membership Secretary who is Geoff Morgan. All work closely as a team ensuring that the Branch runs smoothly. Chairman, Chris Wright, organises the annual Poppy Appeal. There are more than one hundred boxes distributed in various offi ces,shops, cafes, restaurants, hairdressers and other establishments and collections are also made at the Sunday Market in Estepona Port on the two Sundays prior to Remembrance Sunday. Last year Spain South District raised over 76,000 Euros for The Royal British Legion and Estepona Branch raised nearly 8000 Euros of that. So far the fi nal total for the money collected this year has not been fi nalised but it is hoped it will be a similar amount.There are many members who work tirelessly to help raise money for ‘The Legion’. Joan and Ron Mason and their wonderful team of helpers collect ‘nearly new’ second hand clothes during the year and sell them at the International Day at Estepona Palacio de Congresos (which will be in April next year). They raise considerable sums of money doing this - over 600 Euros on the last occasion, for The Poppy Appeal. The ‘locals’ soon snap up all the bargains as soon as the stall is open and by the end of the day, very little is left. If you have any good items to donate, please get in touch with the Chairman.Estepona welcomes everyone who is interested in the cause of raising money to help the badly wounded ex-servicemen and the bereaved families needing our support. You do not need to have served in any military organisation to become a member of The Royal British Legion. As a member you will enjoy the companionship and friendship of the other members. You can also bring your friends along to most meetings and outings organised by the Branch. Think long and hard about joining. They need your help. Go along to a meeting, sooner rather than later!

Nueva asociación solidaria en Casares “Karama”La Asociación local de Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui de Casares – Secadero, KARAMA, nace con la intención de ayudar al pueblo saharaui en la mejora de sus condiciones de vida en los campamentos de refugiados y en la consecución de su justa independencia.Este nuevo colectivo está formado principalmente por padres y madres de acogida que participan en el programa Vacaciones en Paz, aunque también forman parte de la asociación vecinos concienciados y preocupados por el problema del Sahara occidental.Uno de los objetivos de la nueva asociación es ampliar el número de familias de acogida. En la actualidad Casares es uno de los pueblos con más niños saharauis en verano en proporción a su número de habitantes. Sin embargo, la actual crisis económica frena a muchas familias a la hora de dar este paso. Por eso Karama llevará a cabo diferentes acciones que permitan fi nanciar los billetes de avión de los menores. Estos niños tienen la oportunidad de recibir una atención médica y una alimentación completa en España a la vez que se alejan del fuerte calor del desierto en los meses de verano.

Será fundamental para la asociación llevar a cabo diferentes tareas de divulgación del problema del Sáhara, con un compromiso de continua demanda de la independencia de este pueblo sometido a muchos años de privación de libertad. Karama, the Casares-Secadero association of friends of the people of Sahrawi, formerly Western Sahara, has been created with the aim of improving the living conditions in the refugee camps and to campaign for their independence.Karama consists mainly of host families who participate in the programme Holidays in Peace, which brings children over to Casares for a respite from the desert heat of summer, and their troubled lives back home. The children have the opportunity to receive essential medical care along with good nutrition.

The association would like to expand this programme with more families taking in children during the summer, however the current economic climate is proving an obstacle to such efforts. Vecinos de Casares participan en la representación de un Belén Viviente

Será el sábado 19 de diciembre a partir de las 19.00 h.Casares se convertirá en Belén el próximo sábado. Más de 200 vecinos participarán como actores en una gran Belén Viviente que ocupará toda la calle Fuentes y el Llano de la Fuente.La actividad aunque está organizada con el apoyo del Ayuntamiento de Casares cuenta con la colaboración de la mayor parte de las asociaciones y colegios del municipio y un gran número de vecinos que representaran a los personajes de Belén.Como escenario a esta gran representación se va a utilizar la calle Fuentes, y el Llano de la Fuente, que se va a iluminar con antorchas, mariposas de aceite y estrellas que guiarán a los visitantes hasta el nacimiento situado junto a la Fuente del Llano.Por toda la zona se ubicarán las diferentes escenas:

huertos de vegetales, un establo y un corral con animales reales (caballos, burros, ovejas, etc), el Palacio de Herodes, una posada-taberna, y muchas casa que decoradas al estilo de la época abrirán sus puertas para formar parte de este gran escenario.Además, habrá un gran número de puestos, de hierbas naturales, de bordados, granos, una zapatería artesanal, alfarería, peletería, fragua, de miel, de castañas, panadería, frutería, carnicería… Unos serán representaciones y en otros se podrán comprar como la quesería, y los puestos de dulces, café, y chocolate.Desde la organización se anima a todos los vecinos de Casares y visitantes a que se vistan de acorde a esta gran representación y así participar de una forma activa en este Belén casareño.

From 7.00 pm on Saturday, 19th December Casares Town Centre will become Bethlehem when numerous locals act out a living nativity scene along the length of Calle Fuentes and the Llano de la Fuente.The event is a community effort organised by the Town Hall along with most of the municipality’s associations, local schools, etc.,The streets will be illuminated with fl aming torches and oil lamps and there will be stars to guide visitors to the holy stable located next to the Llano de la Fuente.

Living nativity scene in CasaresThroughout the town there will be individual scenes: a farm, stables, the Palace of Herod, an Inn and a Tavern, and many houses decorated in the style of the period.There will also be a market in keeping with the theme, potters, cobblers, grocers, bakers, herborists, blacksmith’s forge, as well as stalls selling cheese, sweets, coffee, chocolate, etc.Along with the local residents, visitors are encouraged to dress in keeping with the theme, and so participate in the event.

¿Cuales son sus objetivos en la delegación de comercio de aquí al fi nal de mandato?Desde esta delegación se gestiona todo lo relacionado con las licencias de aperturas de establecimientos, la ocupación de vías publicas, los mercadillos de los viernes y del domingo así como la ofi cina de consumo (OMIC). No obstante estamos trabajando desde el primer día en la puesta en marcha de iniciativas que ayuden a estimular la actividad económica del municipio y el empleo. Esa es nuestra prioridad, y para ello necesitamos de la colaboración de las asociaciones de empresarios del municipio.

What is Sabinillas Open Market? The name is an umbrella under which participating shops and restaurants in Sabinillas can

work together for promotional and advertising campaigns. It should also serve to set a quality of service offered to customers. I’m sure if we are serious this brand will become a benchmark in the area. We’re also working on some ideas to revitalize Manilva’s Calle Mar.

As for local media in the Municipality of Manilva, what can we expect?

As everyone knows Manilva has a both a municipal radio and television service along with the website www.manilva.es. The aim here is to make the transfer to digital technology with DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) and continue to maintain the quality of our own programming. We also want to expand content and services from our website.

Cleaning in the town leaves much room for improvement. Manilva relies on Tourism, so what can we expect from this department? Cleanliness is one of fundamental public services provided by the

Town Council. It is true that the standard of cleanliness has left a lot to be desired but we would ask for just a little more patience from residents, as I am sure that before long an improvement will be plainly visible.

Cultura organiza un viaje a Madrid

La Delegación de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Manilva ha incluido dentro de su programa de actividades de invierno, un viaje al centro de la Península para visitar Madrid-Toledo y Segovia durante los días 26, 27, 28 de Febrero y 1 de Marzo.En este viaje, se tendrá la oportunidad de recorrer las tres ciudades castellanas con sus excelencias turísticas. El traslado será en autobús desde Manilva a Madrid, dónde se alojarán en un hotel céntrico de la capital de España. IUy PSOE conforman el nuevo equipo de gobierno en el Ayuntamiento de ManilvaEl día 23 de noviembre comparecieron en rueda de prensa los concejales de Izquierda Unida que conforman el equipo de gobierno, con la alcaldesa Antonia Muñoz Vázquez, y los ediles socialistas, con sus respectivos secretarios de Organización a nivel provincial, Manolo García y Francisco Conejo respectivamente.El asunto a tratar no fue otro que hacer llegar a la opinión pública los detalles de la incorporación al Equipo de Gobierno de los cuatro ediles del PSOE después del pacto fi rmado en el mes de agosto por ambas formaciones políticas.La primera edil manilveña se dirigió a los presentes informándoles que después de algunos meses de reuniones entre PSOE e IU, en esa misma tarde se hacía ofi cial la incorporación de los cuatro ediles socialistas al Equipo de Gobierno. La fi nalidad, según Muñoz no es otra que dar estabilidad al gobierno municipal, basar la política en el consenso de la gestión diaria y tener apoyos en el pleno para que todos los asuntos de interés para los vecinos puedan ser sacados adelante sin ningún tipo de contratiempo.Antonia Muñoz prosiguió diciendo que: “tenemos que ser responsable con el puesto que ocupamos y no es bueno para Manilva que haya un desequilibrio a la hora de gestionar los intereses del municipio, de ahí la necesidad de formar un equipo de gobierno sólido, estable, de consenso y sin discrepancias”, apuntó.En cuanto a los grandes objetivos a conseguir, regularizar la deuda con la seguridad social, fi nalizar la ciudad deportiva, habilitar aparcamientos y dar estabilidad a los empleados municipales podrían ser los

Concurso de cata de vinos

Según nos ha informado el concejal de Agricultura, Diego Díaz, el próximo día 19 de diciembre se llevará a cabo en el salón de plenos del ayuntamiento de Manilva un concurso de cata.Para la gastronomía de Manilva y como ancestral modo de vida, la uva, y por lo tanto, el vino han formado parte de la idiosincrasia del municipio, dando hasta nuestros días grandes resultados hasta ser considerados de un nivel notable. De ahí el interés del edil de Agricultura de seguir manteniendo esta tradición y continuar estudiando y mejorando el producto.El concurso tendrá tres modalidades; de vino seco, dulce y semidulce.Podrán optar a participar los vecinos empadronados en Manilva y habrá tres premios, uno por categoría, consistentes en trofeos que reconozcan la calidad de los vinos expuestos.Como parte integrante del jurado y expertos conocedores de la textura, el olor y el sabor de los vinos estarán presentes especialistas de Jerez y Montilla.Para el edil de Agricultura es una buena ocasión para participar en un concurso tan relacionado con uno de los frutos más característicos de nuestra localidad, a la vez que se le da relevancia para poder perpetuarlo en el tiempo y que se pueda llegar a convertir en una cita de los buenos amantes del vino.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación municipal de Infancia y Educación, informa está abierto el plazo de matriculación para el curso “Sábados en Inglés”, un taller multidisciplinar destinado a niños de 3 a 12 años.Las clases se impartirán en el Centro Municipal de Educación de Adultos, sito en la Plaza de Los Misioneros, cada sábado, de 10:30 a 13:30 horas, desde el 12 de diciembre hasta el término de calendario escolar ofi cial, en el mes de junio.El precio del curso es de 35,00 € mensuales, si bien la cuota del mes de diciembre es de 18,00 € debido a la fecha del comienzo del taller, y estará a cargo del Instituto de Inglés PAE, merced al convenio de colaboración con la delegación municipal de Infancia y Educación, presentado hoy por Rocío Andrades, concejala delegada del área, y Ana García Rubio, por parte de PAE, empresa dedicada a la

enseñanza de la lengua y la cultura inglesa.Según ha manifestado la edil, la delegación de Infancia y Educación pretende fomentar todas aquellas iniciativas encaminadas al aprendizaje del inglés, como ya hiciera el pasado verano con los cursos de “Inglés en Verano” destinados a niños de 4 a 12 años, también ca cargo de PAE.El curso incluye actividades multidisciplinares, con prioridad de inglés oral, juegos didácticos, talleres audiovisuales, etc..., y el alumnado estará dividido en grupos por edades, según el número de inscritos. Protesta de músicos por el impago de los salariosLos miembros de la Banda Municipal de Estepona, junto con amigos y simpatizantes marcharon por Estepona a principios de este mes en protesta por la incapacidad del Ayuntamiento a pagarles sus salarios durante más de once

meses. Los músicos, que están a tiempo parcial y actúan en numerosas ocasiones durante todo el año, ganan poco más de 300 euros al mes por su tiempo y duro trabajo.

Environment Ministry to fund Guadalmansa water treatment plant expansion

Estepona’s local authority has reported that the regional government has authorised an investment by the Ministry of Environment of just over 30 million euros for the expansion of the Guadalmansa water treatment plant which serves the municipalities of Estepona, Marbella, Istan and Benahavis.This will more than double the plant’s treatment capacity from 35,000 cubic metres to 65,000 cubic metres as well as having a tertiary (chemical treatment) system of purifi cation that will

allow all of this water to be reused for agricultural, garden and golf course irrigation.The planned expansion will allow for the future growth of the four municipalities, including the summer increase in population, and is designed to cater for the needs of some 400,000 people.This project has been declared of national interest therefore its entire funding will come from central government and is part of larger programme of water infrastructure development on the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts

with a total of 74 projects and a budget of over 319 million euros. Among these projects are water treatment plants in Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Ronda and La Linea de la Concepcion which are already completed with major plants in Algeciras and Torrox currently under construction.The tendering process for the expansion project is currently under way and will have an estimated time for completion of 28 months.

Medio Ambiente ampliará la depuradora de Guadalmansa con una inversión de 30,1 millones

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación de Urbanismo, ha informado que el Consejo de Gobierno de la Junta de Andalucía ha autorizado a la Consejería de Medio Ambiente una inversión de 30,14 millones de euros para la ampliación de la depuradora de aguas residuales de Guadalmansa, ubicada en el término municipal de Estepona y que también presta servicio a las localidades de Marbella, Benahavís e Istán. Esta instalación aumentará su capacidad de tratamiento desde los 35.000 metros cúbicos actuales hasta los 65.000. Asimismo, dispondrá de un sistema terciario de depuración (tratamiento químico) que permitirá reutilizar todo este volumen de agua para riegos agrícolas, de jardinería y campos de golf. Con la ampliación prevista, la depuradora de Guadalmansa atenderá tanto los crecimientos futuros de los cuatro municipios como

los aumentos de población que se producen durante los veranos. De este modo, estará diseñada para asumir la carga contaminante total de más de 400.000 personas. El proyecto de la nueva infraestructura está declarado de interés general del Estado, por lo que su fi nanciación corresponde íntegramente a la Administración central. En este sentido, la inversión aprobada por el Consejo tiene carácter de adelanto con el fi n de agilizar las obras. Esta fórmula se estableció en el convenio de colaboración fi rmado en febrero de 2006 entre la Consejería de Medio Ambiente de la Junta y el Gobierno central para el desarrollo de infraestructuras del agua en las cuencas intracomunitarias atlántica y mediterránea hasta el año 2013. Con una fi nanciación estatal de 319,4 millones de euros, el acuerdo incluye un total de 74 proyectos, en su mayor parte declarados de interés general. De ellos, 40 se dirigen a la

construcción de depuradoras, 32 a mejora de abastecimiento y dos a encauzamientos. Entre las nuevas depuradoras destacan las de Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Ronda y La Línea de la Concepción, ya en servicio, y las de Algeciras y Torrox, actualmente en construcción.El alcalde de Estepona, David Valadez, anunció ayer que la Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental resolvió en la sesión de la Comisión Gestora, desestimar sendos recursos de reposición presentados por dos afectados, por lo que las obras podrán dar inicio de “forma inmediata”.La Consejería de Medio Ambiente, a través de la Agencia Andaluza del Agua, inició en marzo del pasado año la licitación para la ampliación de la estación, cuyo proyecto está presupuestado en 43,1 millones de euros y tendrá un plazo de ejecución de 28 meses.

El Plan de Asfaltado afectará al tráfi co rodado en horario nocturno en un tramo de la Avda el Carmen

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación municipal de Seguridad Ciudadana, informa que desde el próximo domingo, 20 de diciembre, permanecerá cortada al tráfi co un tramo de la Avenida del Carmen, desde la glorieta de Tres Banderas hasta la de la Gasolinera Shell, próxima al cruce de Guadalobón, por motivo de las obras del Plan de Asfaltado que llevará a cabo la delegación municipal de Infraestructuras.Los trabajos de pavimentación y asfaltado sólo se ejecutarán por la noche, divididos en tres fases, comenzando el próximo domingo, día 20, para fi nalizar el día miércoles 23, en horario de 21:00 a 07:00 horas, si bien el horario de corte de las vías será variable, dependiendo de las zonas.Con tal motivo, el Departamento de Tráfi co de la Policía Local recomienda a los usuarios, especialmente

a los residentes en las urbanizaciones aledañas al tramo afectado, tales como: Ronda en el Mar, Kai-Alde, Punta Doncella, El Pinacho, Belgravia, Puerto Estepona, Bermeja Beach, Edifi cio El Coral, Veramar, Riviera Andaluza, Beberly Hill, Hotel H10, Gasolinera Shell y otras viviendas unifamiliares, que sólo tengan acceso desde la Avenida del Carmen, dejen sus vehículos estacionados fuera del perímetro de las obras y no padezcan problemas a la hora de hacer uso de ellos.Los cortes de la vía estarán regulados por operarios de la empresa encargada de la realización de las obras y existirán vías alternativas, según tramos, todo ello, salvo casos de emergencia. Costa Advice BureauThe diffi culties experienced by the non Spanish communities when trying to talk to the Spanish service providers is evident.Long term residents who speak a little of the Spanish language still have to struggle when dealing with the bureaucracy or some other entity with an issue that should be quite simple, like communicating with the water or electric board or the telephone companies.

Firstly you try by phone. If you are lucky and persist, that means not put the phone down after 20 minutes, and add to that the cost of almost the same fi gure in euros. Not enough that you fi nd that you have been overcharged on your latest bill but to have to use an expensive phone line to try to communicate that to somebody.

Be careful asking for an operator who speaks English. If you are fortunate, twenty more expensive minutes later and you could hear an engaged tone. This is frustrating when you have just explained the problem for the third time to someone who does speak your language.

Try getting back to that person. You have more chance of winning the lottery. If you do get through, have at least some knowledge of uno, dos, tres and up to fourteen in Spanish, depending on the department you think you may need to assist you. One presumes that you have given up when you drag yourself out to visit the relevant offi ce. Take a fl ask and a folding chair. If you are wondering why the local who entered fi fteen minutes later than you, steps up to the counter just when you thought after patiently tapping your foot that at last it was your turn. This is easily explained, they were in earlier, claimed his or her place in the queue and then went off to have a coffee or do some shopping to return just in time to reclaim their position ignoring the ever growing line of

Then as you attempt your best Spanish, it slowly dawns on the nice person behind the counter that you are going to be hard work. Look out for the slow but obvious changing facial expressions and the straining as if you cannot be heard.

You may be tempted to look behind you to see what smell has entered this space but the truth of the matter is that the person you are trying to communicate with does not have the slightest idea what you are trying to say. Taking your Spanish phrase book with you will only mean that you will be out of the door quicker. It will be immediate proof that this appointment will take some time. As Christmas is upon us, I would like to end on an optimistic note. If your phone packs up, electric supply is cut off or you have no water, you will not have to face any of the abovementioned problems as during the festive season most service providers will be shut or on the anise.

¿PORQUE LA FELICIDAD NO ME DURA?

Muchas veces no sabemos que nos pasa, porqué estamos cansados, apáticos. Todo se convierte en monotonía, nada de lo que hace parece que le reconforta. Intentamos animar nuestras vidas con nuevas experiencias, pero siempre se acaba frustrado, harto… la felicidad que le proporcionaba se acaba pronto.¿Qué me pasa? ¿No encuentras la felicidad? ¿Por qué termino desilusionado con todo lo que hago? Amigo mío, padeces Distemia, o Síndrome del descontento crónico. Este síntoma puede no ser fácil de detectar hasta que no produce una depresión grave. La persona que lo padece puede tirar el día completo, puede hacer su trabajo, su vida, pero siempre desde una posición diferente, siempre desde el descontento. Lo hace porque básicamente debe hacerlo, pero no disfruta, no siente nada agradable haciendo lo que hace. Se suele comenzar con actividades nuevas e ilusionantes, para luego abandonarlas. Se suelen hacer muchos cambios para reactivarse. Las personas con distemia, nunca parece que han alcanzado lo sufi ciente. Trabajan todas las horas posibles. Siempre están alerta ante posibles problemas o crisis. Se sienten consumidos la mayor parte del tiempo

por las preocupaciones. Presionan sin descanso a todos los que tienen a su alrededor, para sacar más y más. Pero consideran que no han conseguido lo sufi ciente. Cuando ven a otros triunfar en otros campos o en los sus propios, solo pueden ver lo que les falta. ¿Cómo demonios ha conseguido esto o lo otro? ¿Como conoce a este o aquel personaje? ¿De donde saca para….? Josué encarga la venta de una casa a un intermediario por valor de 240.000 euros. El intermediario encuentra a alguien dispuesto a pagar mucho más, 1.200.000 y propone compartir los benefi cios al 50% descontando el importe de la venta inicial. Al principio Josué esta de acuerdo, pero después de la venta, decide no repartir el benefi cio estipulado. Simplemente no soporta que alguien obtenga un benefi cio tan amplio de algo que es suyo. No concibe la idea de que alguien puede ser mejor que él. Ana construyo la casa de sus sueños con todo lo que siempre había deseado. Ahora, al cabo de un año está pensando en venderla. Trabaja muy duro por la noche para poder sacarse el título de enfermería, seis años. Ahora tras dos años realizando

ese trabajo, resulta que la enfermería no es lo que creía. ¿Y ahora que? Según los estudios el descontento crónico no tratado es responsable de muchos cambios en la personalidad de las personas, las vuelven manipuladoras, depresivas, irascibles, desconfi adas… ¿Quién no se ha topado con gente con estas características en su vida? Son muchos más de los que pensamos las personas que sufren este trastorno. Si echamos un breve vistazo a nuestro alrededor, seguro que puede señalar a algún político, promotor, comerciante…amigo… Aquí en Manilva, por lo menos yo podría nombrar a más de uno. Para terminar, decir que hay que tener cuidado con este síndrome. Se produce una paradoja, las sensaciones las encuentran en las relaciones personales, pero según avanza el síndrome los afectados se alejan cada vez más de los demás. Cuanta más frustración, cínico, manipulador, irascible… más nos evitan y por consiguiente peor se encuentran las personas que lo padecen.

Disolución EU el HachoLa alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, quien también es presidenta de la Entidad Urbanística de Conservación de El Hacho, ha manifestado que en la próxima sesión plenaria ordinaria de la corporación municipal que se celebrará el próximo 7 de enero de 2010, se tratará una moción presentada por el grupo municipal de Izquierda Unida para proceder a la disolución de la citada entidad. Tras este trámite, las zonas comunes de todo el entorno del puerto de La Duquesa pasarían a ser de titularidad municipal, con lo cual se solventaría una situación que se prolonga desde hace varios años.Antonia Muñoz es presidenta de esta entidad desde abril de 2008, cuando se constituyó

una nueva junta directiva. Una de las tareas primordiales desde ese momento ha sido poner al día el padrón de contribuyentes puesto que un porcentaje importante de estos no se ajustaba a la realidad o faltaban datos identifi cativos.En este sentido se han enviado todas las deudas al Patronato de Recaudación Provincial para su realización en vía ejecutiva y en estos momentos y por cuestiones de solidaridad seguimos ahondando en esta vía.Con respecto a las deudas son signifi cativas las que se mantienen con la Tesorería General de la Seguridad Social, más de 580.000 €, con la Agencia Tributaria, 160.000€, con el Ayuntamiento de Manilva, así como con

El Hacho EUC to be dissolvedThe Mayor of Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, has announced that at the next regular full Council Meeting, scheduled for the 7th January, 2010, one of the motions will be a proposal to proceed with the dissolution of the El Hacho EUC, the entity created in 2006 to oversee the communal areas and infrastructure of the the El Hacho zone.This decision to dissolve the entity was passed by a majority vote at a meeting of community presidents held on Monday, 23rd November.

According to a press release from the Town Hall the communal areas around the Port of Duquesa will be adopted by the Ayuntamiento and will be maintained by them, resolving the many problems and confl icts dogging this area for many years.Antonia Muñoz has been president of the EUC since April, 2008 when a new committee was elected, since then a major task has been to update the register of homeowners.Since then the Provincial Revenue Collection Agency, the Patronato

de Recaudación Provincial, has begun implementing procedures to collect all monies owing so as to clear the debts the entity has with the Social Security (580,000€) and with the Tax Offi ce (160,000€), along with various other creditors including the municipality of Manilva and Sanimobel, etc.The current expenditure will be limited to essential maintenance and repairs, with surplus income allocated to clear existing debts.

This is a diffi cult time for people receiving an income from the UK when living in Spain. By adding spices and honey, it could be made drinkable again. Nowadays, it is a traditional drink during winter, especially around Christmas.Glühwein is popular in German-speaking countries and the region of Alsace in France. It is the traditional beverage offered and drunk on Weihnachtsmärkten. It is usually prepared from red wine, heated and spiced with cinnamon sticks, vanilla pods, cloves, citrus and sugar. In Sweden, glögg spice extract can be purchased at the chemist. To prepare glögg, spices and/or spice extract are mixed into the wine, which is then heated to 60°-70° Celsius (140°-158° Fahrenheit). El artista Edward Burbidge empezó a pintar a la temprana edad de 10 años. La primera beca se la otorgaron a los 16 años de edad y se marchó a estudiar al Rotherham Art College en Yorkshire. Se especializó en la pintura en acuarela.Finalmente su creación artística le surgió de manera accidental cuando descubrió una nueva dimensión en sus pensamientos y visión; esto le permitió empezar a pintar, lo que el llama abstracto “Iawhashy”.Según él, cada pintura tiene un trocito de magia en su creación.Edward Burbidge nos presenta su colección de obras en una exposición que estará abieractividades ta en el Centro Cultural Padre Manuel del 30 de noviembre al 23 de diciembre.

The fi nale to the Christmas festivities is Three Kings or Los Reyes Magos on the 6th of January.Three Kings is traditionally when the Spanish give and receive their presents, although some have also started to give gifts on Christmas Eve/Day in line with the rest of Europe.The highlight of this festival is the Cabalgata de Los Reyes, or the Three Kings Cavalcade, on the evening of the 5th January. This can only be described as a mobile riot and takes place in every city, town or village throughout Spain.

A stimulating new year programme with DFAS de la Frontera

DFAS de la Frontera have three lectures in January presented by popular speaker Douglas Skeggs MA Cantab. On the 19th January 2010 the lecture is entitled Picasso, Braque and the Cubist Movement. With his usual humour and expertise, Mr Skeggs will examine the development of Cubism in the watershed years when Picasso and his contemporaries began to establish a work of art not only as a representation but a refl ection of an image outside itself. Douglas Skeggs prolongs his visit to give us an extra special day’s seminar on the ambitious, greedy but fascinating dynasty which sponsored the Florentine Renaissance and changed the face of Western art.In two lectures entitled ‘Bankrolling the Medici’ on the 20th January he explains their limitless wealth and continuing success. The morning lecture will start at 11.00 am and the afternoon session will begin at 2.30 pm. This special day will cost 15 euros for visitors and 12 euros for other NADFAS members, and will be free for de la Frontera members. On the 27th January we are taking a trip to the iconic Picasso and CAC Museums in Malaga, with the addition of a visit to the new Ceramic and Glass Museum. DFAS de la Frontera is also pleased to announce an exciting Young Arts Project to be held in conjunction with Sotogrande International School that will see Arts students between the ages of 14-17 competing for a generous prize to be awarded to the best three minute short video fi lm on the theme of ‘It’s A Wonderful World’. Judging of the best fi lm will take

place on 23rd March after the DFAS de la Frontera lecture and the prize giving will be held at an ‘Oscar’s Night’ in April.We have a fantastic programme of trips, special events and social gatherings planned for the rest of the season, so please come along and see what we are about. “Detects Potential Breast CancerEarly and Safely”

Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging can detect temperature changes of as litt le as 0.1% centigrade and is the latest medical technology to help in breast screening. Thermal Imaging is totally painless, 100% safe, there is no radiation, there is no patient contact and it is non-invasive. Importantly, studies have shown that Thermal Imaging can detect breast abnormalities up to 10 years before a mammogram or ultrasound.

How does Thermal Imaging work? The body produces heat and by using a highly sophisticated medical thermal infrared “camera”, an image or thermogram of the breasts is captured. A copy of this thermogram is sent to fully qualifi ed and licensed Medical Doctors, specialists in Thermology who perform a detailed analysis and a full report is provided on their fi ndings, together with the images taken. Abnormalities change your underlying, unique heat patt ern, think of a hot painful knee or a swollen ankle, and it is the skilled early detection of tiny and subtle changes that point to potential areas of concern. Abnormalities could be cancer, fi brocystic disease, infections, vascular or simply lymphatic issues. Any abnormalities in your scan or future scans, will be reported on and if cause for concern, more detailed standard checks can be conducted by your GP or specialist. Patients are recommended to have routine scans at intervals dependant on age, previous history and risk group.

Who is Thermal Imaging Targeted At? Everyone can benefi t from breast thermography screening however, it is especially appropriate for younger women (20 - 50) whose denser breast tissue makes it more diffi cult for mammograms and ultrasound to be eff ective. Also, women of all ages who are unable to undergo routine mammography will benefi t from Thermal Imaging. Breast cancer is usually much more aggressive in the younger woman and cancer cells grow signifi cantly faster if under 50.

It usually takes around 8 years from starting before most cancers can be detected by a mammogram or ultrasound however the good news is that Thermal Imaging can usually detect an abnormality aft er only 2 years of growth and sometimes as early as 90 days. Early screening and early detection is imperative. The younger an individual is screened, the bett er. There are no contraindications for Thermal Imaging, it can do no harm so it is also suitable for those who are pregnant, have implants etc. Readers need to be aware that there is no comparison or competition between mammograms and Thermal Imaging. Thermography is a test of function (physiology) and not anatomy. They are two diff erent tests, providing diff erent results and “looking” for diff erent things! Mammograms and ultrasound show “structure” i.e. lumps which can be measured and opinions given before biopsy. What Thermal Imaging does is provide early warnings by showing changes before this stage has been reached. If there are indications and these are detected early enough, simple life style changes may be all that is required to halt these abnormalities in their tracks. Thermography is also particularly useful post-surgery to monitor the on-going situation and to protect the healthy breast.

Have Clinical Tests Been Done on Thermal Imaging? Over 800 peer-reviewed studies on well over 300,000 women have taken place with some of these studies having followed patients for up to 12 years. These clinical trials have demonstrated that breast thermography detects the fi rst signs of a cancer up to 10 years before any other procedure and signifi cantly augments the long-term survival rates of its recipients. When used as part of a multimodal approach i.e. thermography plus clinical examination and mammography, studies have shown that up to 95% of early stage cancers can be detected. DICIEMBRE QUE ES UN NIÑOEl gato blanco inicia su maullido matinal. El sol, abre sus pétalos, deshoja su luz sobre el pueblo. Los niños ya no van a la escuela, porque están de vacaciones. El gato, esta noche, quiso dormir junto a ellos, y, a toda costa, trató de entrar en un dormitorio, arañando con entusiasmo e insistencia la puerta; hasta que fi nalmente, la luna, se coló por la ventana, se hizo aldaba, y ayudó al animal a lograr su propósito. Cuando Pedro tenía veinticinco años, su barba era espesa y negra, y su hermana, la mayor, la pintaba de blanco para que él representara a San Nicolás en la navidad, así todos sus sobrinos disfrutaban en esa festividad; ahora, su barba, aparece más clara y canosa, pero la siguen tiñendo de blanco, para imitar a un Santa Claus de verso infantil y puro. Pedro es mercader, y parte de lo que compra lo guarda para repartirlo cada fi nal de año. Ya jubilado, sigue a su modo con ese tránsito. Así lleva más de medio siglo. Nunca se casó, si bien tuvo hembras conviviendo a su lado. Ahora vive con una mujer más joven que él, a la que le gustan los gatos con locura. Pedro ama a esa mujer, a pesar de ser algo distante, porque tiene algo de misteriosa y salvaje como los felinos. “Parece mentira que sigas con esa tradición, año tras año; pienso que tú ni crees en esas cosas”, le insinúa su compañera, mientras acaricia al gato, recostado a los pies de la cama como un bebé que nunca tuviera. En realidad, esa mujer compartía su vida con Pedro ocasionalmente, según se le antojaba, hasta que un día, ya nunca más volvió a su lado, porque se mostró insatisfecha de él y sus correrías fi lantrópicas. Cuando Pedro era un niño, su padre, se quejaba de los árboles de navidad que colocaban en los hogares cuando estos eran demasiado grandes, y de los belenes, decía que algunos tardaban dos meses en ponerlos en su casa, porque no tenían tiempo, y proponía a conocidos y amigos que lo dejaran instalados de un año para otro y así ahorrarse el trabajo, sin pensar en la ofrenda que signifi caba esa labor para muchos piadosos. “La navidad es el principio de algo y no el fi nal, aunque después de navidad llegue el calendario a su término”, expresaba convencido de ello. Aunque no era muy devota, la madre, católica, inculcó a sus hij os el espíritu navideño. El padre de Pedro, si bien pertenecía a la iglesia protestante, colaboraba en los quehaceres de la casa a la hora de las celebraciones de navidad, a veces por pura expansión. Era el hombre un afi cionado a la arqueología, y se dice que escribió un cuento, sin publicar, que hablaba de un alcalde joven que hubo en el pueblo, descendiente éste de Julio Cesar, y que halló dentro de varias ánforas, documentos claves que desvelaban la autenticidad de que Julio Cesar pasó por esta villa, en la que habían dejado las huellas todas las culturas de la península. También, en el escrito, y, aunque según el historiador Tácito, la madre de Julio Cesar era una mujer pura y de carácter noble, y fue su tío Cayo Mario, quien infl uyó notablemente en el general; sin embargo, el padre de Pedro, en el cuento, resaltaba la fi gura del padre del César, llamado igual que su hij o, Cayo Julio César, un pretor romano, que le mostró a su hij o –antes de morir, cuando realizaba los cursus honorum, interrumpidos al fallecer en campaña–, la razón económica que se cernía dentro del poder militar, y los medios de alzarse con éxito en sus campañas bélicas.

Pedro, con más de setenta años, recuerda muchas cosas de su pasado en la casa familiar, ahora, sigue en esa misma vivienda, reformada, pero con el corazón de piedra de mampostería, habitada por él y una sirvienta a su cargo, y continúa vistiéndose de Papa Noel para los nietos y biznietos de sus hermanos. Pero él, aunque nunca tuvo fe, logró hacer un centro de acogida para los niños que necesitaran calor, amor y regalos. “De tanto imitar a San Nicolás, se cree que es el mismo santo en persona”, decía uno de sus cuñados, con sorna, que le tenía un poco de envidia por los triunfos fi nancieros que Pedro conseguía en sus empresas textiles. Una vez, se enfrentaron en la cena de navidad, algo que suele ocurrir, por desgracia, con demasiada frecuencia, y la vesania se apoderó del cuñado de Pedro de tal modo que, ya en los postres, de un manotazo, le arrojó el helado de fresas a Pedro en la cara, con lo que mantel y rostro se pusieron hechos una birria, aunque el paño, ya se sabe, en las fi estas de navidad, siempre queda percudido; hasta tuvo que intervenir la hermana, resolviendo el altercado con un villancico de ánimo descomunal que ella misma se inventó; en fi n, el cuñado pidió disculpas, Pedro se las concedió, y a beber y a cantar los villancicos más populares, que sin más remedio, todos a una, debían interpretar, era la tradición, rompiendo el hechizo producido por la composición anterior inventada por la hermana de Pedro. “Si respetases más a Jesús y lo que aquí celebramos, verías a mi hermano de otro modo.” “Tu hermano es un engreído. Si él es el primero que no cree.” “Más te valdría apoyarlo en el centro de acogida.” “Eso es política social que le repercute en benefi cios propios.” “No seas ridículo y deja de hablar de esa manera.” Y así, a beber otra copita, y otra, y otra, hasta que en la madrugada, en los caldos pésimos que dicen que reaniman, todos terminaban abrazándose, tolerándose mutuamente, o dormidos en cualquier asiento, por muy incomodo que fuera. Años después de la discusión, el cuñado le ayudó en el centro de acogida, en las labores de creación de talleres para ofi cios, hasta que contrajo una enfermedad, y ya, demasiado aquejado para realizar trabajos manuales, daba charlas y ayudaba en la contabilidad, algo que se le daba muy bien aunque no era su ofi cio. Pedro, siguió vistiéndose año tras año de San Nicolás, y la mayor parte del día y la noche la pasaba en el centro de acogida que él mismo había creado, en ese lugar, había jóvenes que eran considerados para él como hij os. Pero esa navidad, algo distinto, muy diferente a otros años ocurriría: en la lista de los niños y muchachos que estaban inscritos en el centro, había uno que se llamaba exactamente igual que el fundador, pues su nombre era, Pedro Rodríguez de la Cueva, nombre y apellidos idénticos, que ingresó el día 22 de diciembre, abandonado por su madre, que ni siquiera habló con el director, y que a los pocos días de dejarlo allí ésta murió; su padre, en búsqueda y captura por un robo a mano armada, tampoco parecía interesarle mucho ese niño. Lo del nombre le resultó curioso a Pedro, y cuando entró en la habitación del muchacho para tratar de invitarle a la cena de navidad, éste fue sorprendido hablando solo. Antes de que le preguntara nada le dij o: “Lágrimas internas, eso es lo que siento, algo que me hace crujir por dentro el corazón.” Pedro trató de animarle, y le dij o: “No te preocupes, que aquí tendrás un hogar, una familia. ¡Sonríe, hombre!

¿Sabes que tienes el mismo nombre y los mismos apellidos que yo? Es curioso, muy curioso.” Tres años después de su llegada, Pedro, el niño que lloraba lágrimas internas, fue adoptado por un teniente de la guardia civil; éste descubrió que los apellidos verdaderos del niño no eran los que constaban en el centro de acogida. “Lo dejaron aquí con una partida de nacimiento que constataba ese nombre”, confi rmó el responsable de admisiones del centro. “Ese es el nombre que me han dicho desde que nací”, declaró el chaval. El padre adoptivo, siguió llamándolo por el nombre de Pedro Rodríguez de la Cueva. Pedro, el hombre que se vestía de Papa Noel cada año, murió una tarde de diciembre, cinco años después de la llegada del niño, y cuando el teniente y el muchacho fueron a la misa de funeral, el joven, le dij o a una de las hermanas del difunto: “Señora, ¿sabe usted que yo hablo con mi madre?, le cuento todo lo que pienso y lo que me pasa, porque sé que me oye, cada día lo hago, y así también lo haré con Pedro; si usted quiere, le digo mañana lo que me cuente él esta tarde.” La hermana de Pedro, sorprendida y, con dudas: era, para ella, a pesar de la edad avanzada que ya tenía su hermano, un gran golpe, se preocupó por el muchacho y le insinuó al oído: “Sí, dime todo lo que él te diga. Pero no comentes a nadie que hablas con las personas que ya no están aquí.” Esa noche, el teniente y el hij o adoptado, fueron al centro de acogida, para hablar con el director, pues el militar quería ofrecer un donativo. Su hij o le pidió que le ayudara en una idea que tuvo: quería realizar una imagen de Dios, no de su hij o recién nacido, para que se pusiera a la entrada del centro. “¡Pero eso cómo va a ser si Dios no tiene forma!”, le dij o el teniente. “Sí que la tiene, ya lo pintó Miguel Ángel”, expuso el chiquillo. “Bueno, en verdad, sí que la tiene para el escultor”, pensó en voz alta el padre adoptivo, sin poder demostrarle a su hij o las cualidades invisibles de la deidad metafísica. (Aunque a muchos, independientemente del respeto a la libertad religiosa, no sé por qué, si no creen, les molesta, les incomoda y les perjudica la imagen de alguien que sólo derramó amor y no hizo mal a nadie.) El niño pidió a su padre que se quedara con él esa noche a dormir en el centro. El teniente habló con su esposa, a la que le pareció una idea absurda, pero él la convenció, pensó que al niño le ayudaría a superar la muerte de su amigo. Aquella mañana, al despertar el teniente, encontró a su hij o junto a la ventana que daba a un patio con dos columnas centrales, una pequeña fuente en un lateral, bordeada por un jardín donde abundaban los espliegos, hablando con alguien, que no llegó a distinguir muy bien. El sol, seguía abriendo sus pétalos, y deshojaba su luz en el patio, en las calles, sobre montículos y valles del pueblo. “Es Pedro, ha venido a verme y me ha dicho que debo seguir cuidando de este lugar”, dij o el niño; su padre adoptivo lo miró con ternura y comprensión, y le prometió que en la próxima navidad y en las siguientes se vestiría de San Nicolás para visitar el centro y traer regalos.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona muestra su pésame por la muerte del actor Paul Naschy

El alcalde de Estepona, David Valadez, en nombre de la Corporación Municipal, ha mostrado su más sentido pésame ante el fallecimiento, esta mañana, de Paul Naschy (Jacinto Molina) a los 75 años de edad.El director, actor, escritor, guionista y productor estaba muy vinculado a Estepona, donde ejercía como coordinador general de la Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico y de Terror. En este certamen se entrega cada año en premio “Waldemar Danisky” en homenaje a Paul Naschy, “alter ego” del Hombre Lobo nacional, quien inspiró este galardón con el que se premia anualmente el apoyo al género fantástico en sus diferentes vertientes.Precisamente, el Ayuntamiento de Estepona inauguró el pasado mes de septiembre una calle con su nombre, un vial situado entre Avenida del Carmen y Calle Torre Almenara, en un acto al que asistió el actor, además de otras autoridades e invitados destacados de la X Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico y de Terror

Actor Paul Naschy dies of cancer, age 75

Sadly we have to report the death from cancer of horror actor Paul Naschy (real name Jacinto Molina) at the age of 75.As well as an actor, Paul was also a writer, director and producer of numerous horror fi lms, but it was his twelve outings as Count Waldemar Danisky, the Wolfman, that earned him the title of the Spanish Lon Chaney.Paul Naschy has a very special connection to Estepona being one of the driving forces behind Estepona’s annual International Horror and Fantasy Film Festival of which he was the General Coordinator, and which celebrated its tenth edition earlier this year.As a tribute to his work with the Festival, the town of Estepona honoured Paul Naschy this year by naming a street after him.Paul Naschy will be remembered fondly by all those that worked with him or met him.

Paul Naschy (born Jacinto Molina, September 6, 1934, Madrid - December 1, 2009, Madrid) was a Spanish movie actor, screenwriter, and director working primarily in horror fi lms. His portrayal of numerous classic horror fi gures such as the wolfman, a hunchback, Count Dracula, a mummy, etc., have earned him recognition as a Spanish Lon Chaney. King Juan Carlos I presented Naschy with Spain’s Gold Medal Award for Fine Arts in 2001 in honour of his work. The werewolf Waldemar Daninsky is without a doubt Paul Naschy’s most famous horror character, since he played him in 12 different fi lms since his fi rst out in the 1968 classic “La Marca del Hombre Lobo” (The Mark of the Wolf Man) which gave birth to the boom in

Aquagest gestionará el servicio del agua y el alcantarillado en Manilva

Durante el pleno celebrado el día 23 de noviembre, se ha resuelto la adjudicación del servicio del agua y el alcantarillado a la empresa Aquagest Sur S.A. con los votos a favor de los cinco concejales de Izquierda Unida, los cuatro del PSOE más los ediles Augusto Gil, Yolanda Holgado, las ediles del Grupo No adscrito, MªCarmen Ferriz, y Paqui Tomé, la abstención del los dos concejales del Partido Popular y los dos votos en contra de la ASM.Cabe recordar que el único punto en el orden del día de este pleno extraordinario ha sido la Propuesta de resolución de los recursos especiales interpuestos contra los acuerdos del Ayuntamiento Pleno del día 26 de Diciembre de 2.008, 19 de Febrero de 2.009 y 7 de Mayo de 2.009 y en su caso adjudicación del contrato de gestión del servicio de abastecimiento de agua y alcantarillado.Una vez realizadas las intervenciones de todos los responsables políticos, la alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia Muñoz Vázquez ha dejado claro que la fi nalidad de la concesión tanto del servicio del agua y el alcantarillado se hará efectiva a la empresa

Sólo valía un resultado en el partido ante el Jerez Industrial y seconsiguió, aunque se tuvo que sufrir más de lo esperado y recomendado, pero al fi nal se cumplió la lógica y el equipo que más buscó el triunfo loconsiguió, aunque para ello tuviese que esperar a los últimos instantes del partido. El equipo fue capaz de reaccionar a tiempo ante el colista del grupo que nada más dar inicio el encuentro sevio favorecido por la suerte y el desacierto local para adelantarse en el marcador, cuando no se había cumplido el primer minuto de juego. El entusiasmo y las ganas de jugar de las niñas y jóvenes no hicieron que la lluvia fuera un obstáculo a la hora de jugar y demostraron que, a pesar del mal tiempo, ellas también son capaces de hacernos disfrutar de buen fútbol.El torneo femenino que la escuela del Arsenal organizó este pasado domingo no pasó desapercibido no sólo por el mal tiempo, ya que la lluvia estuvo presente casi hasta el fi nal del mismo, sino por el gran número de niñas y jóvenes que en unas pocas horas se concentraron en el campo de “La Unión” de Guadiaro. El evento, el cual se celebró como apoyo a día internacional contra la violencia de género, ha permitido poner una piedra más en el pilar que sustenta el fútbol femenino de la zona. Contando con equipos de Puertoblanco Algeciras, Sotogrande Internacional, Gibraltar United, Taraguilla y Salesianos se ha superado el centenar de féminas presentes lo cual hace entrever algo que ya se venía venir y por lo que la escuela del Arsenal lleva apostando desde Septiembre, y es que

sí existe fútbol femenino en el Campo de Gibraltar y jóvenes dispuestas a demostrar que ya no es un juego sólo de hombres.A las 11 de la mañana daba comienzo el primer partido de categoría sub13 y, a pesar del inmenso chaparrón que cayó, las niñas saltaron al campo sin importarles las condiciones en las que jugarían. Ni el barro ni la lluvia fueron un obstáculo para hacerles disfrutar. Más adelante se jugaría el encuentro de sub16 para fi nalmente concluir con el partido de categoría absoluta que enfrentaría al Taraguilla contra los Salesianos. También se

pudo ver un mini torneo de 3 contra 3 para las más pequeñas con el fi n de que las mismas también tuvieran la oportunidad de participar.La afl uencia de público fue considerable, estando allí presentes familiares y amigos de las jugadoras así como locales que no quisieron perderse el evento. La Vuelta a Andalucía acogerá en Gibraltar una contrarreloj

La LVI Vuelta a Andalucía llegará por vez primera en 2010 a Gibraltar, acogiendo una contrarreloj de cinco kilómetros en la cuarta etapa de la carrera en Febrero. El director general de la ronda andaluza, Joaquín Cuevas, lo califi có de “evento histórico”La Vuelta se llevará a cabo en los días del 21-25 de Febrero, empezando en Jaén y terminando en Antequera.
