Dear Friends in Christ, Earlier this year, the Oviedo YMCA approached Most Precious Blood about hosting the local YMCA Soccer League. St. Luke’s Lutheran Church had hosted the YMCA Soccer League for over fifteen years. The YMCA had helped maintain the fields and been respectful of the policies set forth by St. Luke’s. St. Luke’s had renewed the annual agreement each year until the most recent year. When St. Luke’s made plans to build on the property used for soccer fields, the YMCA started looking for new fields. To guide our discernment of the YMCA proposal, we asked ourselves, “What would it take to make Most Precious Blood glad and proud to host the YMCA Soc-cer League?” Our first and best answer was to be a Church, not a rented facili-ty, for the community. We wanted to be consistent with our parish vision to Reach Wide and Share Blessings. Reaching wide, a soccer league would bring many families to our campus who were not Catholic. They would get to know us as a good neighbor. Like the house on the block where kids ran after school to play and parents knew their kids were safe, Most Pre-cious Blood could become a place not just for Catholic kids but for the community. Statistically, one out of four participants and spectators will be Catholic. Weekly soccer practices and Saturday games would likely plant a seed with some Catholics who did not know that there was a Catholic church in Oviedo. Like an open door, it would be easier for them to come home to their faith. In the parable of the mustard

seed, the smallest of seeds “springs up and becomes the larg-est of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade” (Mark 4:32). Most Precious Blood, plant-ed ten years ago like that mus-tard seed, has sprung up, so that people from Oviedo, Geneva and Chuluota, like the birds of the sky, can dwell in its shade. Sharing Blessings, we have been blessed to be surrounded by beautiful green fields. High school couples already take pictures on the parish grounds before Home-coming and Prom. As good stew-ards, we could offer a place for families in the community to en-joy soccer and stay fit. We could build a partnership with the YMCA, a reputable Chris-tian based organization. Jointly we could strengthen the physical and moral fiber of our youth. As the devil is in the details, we considered carefully the parish calendar, traffic flow and parking, bathroom facilities, and storage. We asked where the kids would go in bad weather. We wanted to know that the parish priority of Faith Formation would be pro-tected. The MPB facilities committee including PJ Sutch, Bert Karpinski,

and Jonathan Sherman, along with our Business Manager Ev-elyn Carrasquillo and Bill Chris-tie walked the campus with the YMCA representatives Bridgette Byrne, the Senior Youth Develop-ment Director, and Matt Alvarez, Sports Coordinator of the Oviedo YMCA. After much due diligence, we’ve made an agreement with the YMCA. With the approval of the Diocese of Orlando, Most Pre-cious Blood will host the YMCA Soccer League for 2015-2016. The League begins the third week of August. Practices will be weekday afternoons (no practices on Wednesday due to Faith For-mation) and games will be on Sat-urdays. The agreement is for one year and renewable. The hourly rental fee paid by the YMCA will pay for the addi-tional landscaping to keep the fields in good shape plus support the normal maintenance of our campus. While we expect some incon-veniences and hiccups, we look forward to our larger role in the community. Through it, may the Lord Reach Wide and Share Bless-ings for the good of his people and the glory of his name.

In Christ,

Father David

WORSHIP

Saint of the Week St. James, the Apostle Feast day - July 25

St. James was prominent amongst the twelve apostles. St. James worked as a fisherman with his brother John, his father Zebedee and his partner Simon. He left his life as a fisher-man when Jesus called him to be a Fisher of Men. St. James was chosen by Jesus to be one of the twelve to spread the gospel through the land. He made a pilgrimage to Spain to spread the word. He returned to Ju-dea, where he was beheaded by King Herod Agrippa I (10 BC - 44 AD) in the year 44. St. James the Apostle is universally regarded as the patron

of pilgrims to the Holy Land. He evangelized all the way from Israel to Spain and back. Because he brought Christianity to Spain, St. James is considered the Patron of Spain. Our Cathe-dral here in Orlando is named under his patronage.

Prayer to St James the ApostleO glorious Apostle, Saint James,

who by reason of thy fervent and generous heart was chosen by Jesus to be witness of His glory on Mount Tabor,

and of His agony in Gethsemane; thou, whose very name is a symbol of warfare and victory:

obtain for us strength and consolation in the unending warfare of this life, that, having constantly and generously followed Jesus, we may be victors in the strife and deserve to receive

the victor's crown in heaven.Amen.

EVAnGELIZATIOnIt's FREE - Symbolon

Symbolon aims at an immersion in the Catholic Faith that transforms adults on all lev-els: how we think, how we pray, and how we live. Need a clearer explanation of a particular Church teaching, do you wonder why Catholics believe what we believe and why? Symbolon is adult formation for every parishioner using modern technology; it is designed to help parishioners encounter the sacredness of the faith. Comprised of 20 short video teachings on various topics of the Catholic faith, Symbolon can be

downloaded on any laptop, tablet, or smartphone and accessed at your convenience any time of the day or night. Go to our website www.oviedocatholic.org and register today to start exploring. Be in the “know” and share your faith - it’s FREE to Most Precious Blood parishioners, what are you waiting for?

Come & SeeHave you been coming to Mass but are not Catholic? Has God placed upon your heart an openness to be-coming Catholic, and a longing for a closer relationship with Him as you search for answers to your faith questions? If so, we invite you to look deeper into the Catholic faith. Join us as we plant the seeds of faith and explore the richness and traditions of Catholicism. Inquiry sessions for the Christian Initiation process (RCIA) have started. These gatherings are for inquirers who are not baptized, as well as those who are baptized in another faith background, or baptized Catholics who have not received any other Sacraments. We invite you to ask questions of what Catholics believe in an open, informal and welcoming environment. Come and See…Contact Donna Scimeca at 407-365-3231 x121 or [email protected].

SPONSOR MINISTRY (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)Are you being called to walk the journey of faith with someone who wants to be-come Catholic? An RCIA Sponsor supports an Inquirer seeking the faith to understand Catholic traditions and way of life, not by being a teacher, but by supporting the person and sharing their own experiences of being Catholic. Sponsors are not expected to know the answer to every question, but should have a willingness to share their faith,be welcoming and hospitable, and a good listener. Sponsors must be prac-ticing Catholics, received the three sacraments of initiation, and if married, then married in the Catholic Church. Many sponsors find that serving in this ministry renews and enriches their own faith. Training will be provided. For more informa-

tion please contact Donna Scimeca at the parish office 407-365-3231 x321 or [email protected]

When A Loved One Leaves the ChurchPray, then pray some more! As Catholics, we know that everything starts with prayer. By praying we open ourselves to the Holy Spirit, who guides us in all our actions, including how we interact with our fallen-away family members. What exactly should we pray for? Obviously, we ask that our loved ones might return to the Church, but more specifically, pray that the Lord might bring faithful Catholics into their lives. Pray for opportunities to share the Catholic Faith in ways that are attractive. Ask to be given the right words to say whenever the Church is discussed. When we ask for these things, we will be amazed at how often God answers our specific prayers in ways we never thought possible.OSV, In Focus

Spiritual CommunionThe best way to receive Christ is in Holy Communion at Mass. However, for those times when you are prevented from receiving Holy Communion, you can still reach out to Christ and express your love for him with an act of Spiritual Communion in prayer. Ask him for his help and guidance with prayers such as this one. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You have already come, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. St. Alphonsus Liguori 5

STEWARDSHIP

Thought of the Week In today’s Gospel, Jesus had planned to slip away from the crowds for a few moments of peace and a little rest. When He saw the people gathered, however, He put His needs aside to meet the needs of others. Sometimes, as good stewards, we are called to do the same. How will you put your needs aside this week to help others?

Featured Ministry of the Week:The Audio & Video Ministry It’s OK if you have never run a sound board in your life… as long as you have a desire to learn about it. After all, it does look really cool, and guess what… IT IS! Sound ministry needs more volunteers especially at the Saturday , 5PM and Sunday, 8AM Masses. This is a great ministry

even for younger people who are looking to get involved but don’t really like to be in the spotlight. We can train sound ministers as young as Middle and High Schoolers. We always schedule 2 people to be in the sound booth for Mass as there are numerous tasks to cover but nothing is very difficult. If you think this may be something you would like to do, we invite you to “sit-in” the booth for a Mass some weekend. Ask either Mark (the piano guy) or the people in the booth. We do trainings 2-3 times per year and if you are interested you can contact Mark Sibons for more information: [email protected] 407-365-3231 To learn about more ministries in our parish visit www.oviedocatholic.org/ministry-directory.

Our Gift of TreasureThanks to the generosity of our good and faithful families, we have exceeded our goal and raised $258,269 toward Our Catholic Appeal. The sacrificial generosity of so many families is a reminder to all of us that the ministries of our Church do make a difference, and that God’s work is a priority. As a result of this tremendous response, our parish and our entire Catholic community benefit from access to Catholic education, spiritual renewal opportunities at San Pedro, resources for faith formation, and the life-affirming work of Catholic Charities.PARISH ASSESSMENT: $237,267 Total Pledged: $258,552Total over our goal: $21,285Total families : 525
