From the President’s Desk……………..

Happy Holidays to all you Alumni & Friends of Logan,

I’m happy to be back for a second year as your Alumni Association president. In the past year we

have had a successful Ranger Rally and a fun Winter Party with the Booster Club. Best of all, we

were able to present 13 scholarships to Logan Graduates this spring, plus 4 more made possible by

generous alumni.

As usual, there have been some changes in the Association Board membership. Thanks to Jim

Berg, Geri Guy, Doug Martin, Ron Payne, Bruce Radde, Judy Seifert, and Dave Turk for all

their work while on the Board! And I’d like to welcome JoDeen Kobishop, Darrell Dickinson,

Ralph Tolokken, and Sue Hammond.

We are still in need of a few board members to help put the Alumni Association activities into mo-

tion. If you want to help raise funds for LHS graduates’ scholarships and support Logan, contact

me or any other member of the board, or visit our website – www.lacrosseloganalumni.com, and

leave a message in through the “Contact Us” section.

NOTE: We’re in the beginning stages of planning the next Ranger Rally. It will be the 10th Rally

and we are working to make it one of the best! At this point we have two major changes to tell you

about; the date will be July 14, 2012, and the golf outing has been moved to Forrest Hills. So mark

your calendars now to see all of your friends at the 10th Annual Ranger Rally.

Our winter “New Year” Party is also in the works. Mark your calendars for February 4, 2012

Onward Logan !

Thanks to all of you for your artistic

talent and hard work!

How do we measure the success of the Ranger Rally? This year we offered all of the same events and prizes as we have

in the past with some very happy prize winners. Here are a couple of interesting coincidences: Mark Murphy and Scott

Moran contribute the Packer Tickets through Murphy/Moran Frame and Axle—Mark won the fishing trip, and Scott

won the badger tickets; Caroline Cordes Breiwick is 88 years old and lives in Elk River, MN. She won the diamond and

ruby earrings. Her sister is Twila Biesen, who is 91 years old, and she won the jewelry prize last year. Caroline is an

author and is listed on the Kindle list of books. She has several books listed, including one she co-authored with her sis-

ter, Twila, A Double Dog Dare. See Caroline’s Winning Story on Page 6. We had top-notch entertainment this year

with the band, The Whatnots, out of the Twin Cities. They rocked the house and put on a great show. If you weren’t

there, you missed a very good time!

SAVE THE DATE-—RANGER RALLY #10, SATURDAY, JULY 14, 2012, SOUTHSIDE FESTGROUNDS

Since June is a very busy month with graduations, weddings, etc., we’ve decided to move the date for Ranger Rally #10,

THE BIG EVENT, to July 14, 2012, in hopes of boosting attendance because of less busy schedules. Mark your calen-

dars and watch for more detailed information in the Spring edition of the Ranger Reunion. And, watch for the Ranger

Rally mailing on or about June 1, 2012. We are working hard to make Ranger Rally #10 the best ever!

Please feel free to contact us with any ideas or comments about Ranger Rally, and how we can make it better for you.

As always, we are looking for volunteers to help with the Logan Ranger Rally. If you would like to volunteer for next

year’s rally, please contact us through our website: www.lacrosseloganalumni.com, or by contacting any of the board

members listed on Page 1. The bottom line is to serve you, the alumni and friends, as a leader in maintaining your con-

nection to Logan and to continue to provide scholarships for Logan students. We would like to again thank all of our

supporters and sponsors, and ask for your continued support in making Logan High School the best of the best.

Greetings!

I am the sister of Twila Biesen who won the ladies diamond and sapphire ring at last

year’s Ranger Rally. Imagine my surprise when Dave Turk called to say I had won

the earrings in this year’s Ranger Rally drawing. The package arrived today

(6/23/2011) and I am wearing them as I write. Thank you!!!!

It has been 69 years since graduation day back in January, 1942. I have witnessed

history in the making; some good, some bad, and somehow we have managed to go

with the flow of life.

I married Allison Breiwick on August 7, 1946. He served in Japan with the Army of

Occupation as an ambulance driver. I worked at the Auto Lite. There I de-burred

gears for the then secret automatic pilots. We moved to Minnesota in 1955. In the 60s

I worked in the Butler National Division of National Connector where I made the pro-

totype and five 5-motor switching units for Military MediVac aircraft. We were avid

rock collectors and for the 23 years of country living we had eight rock and flower

gardens. Al and I had many hobbies. Besides working in his many flower gardens,

he registered his own Hosta and worked with stained glass.

I enjoy knitting, tatting, doing counted cross-stitch, and some writing. Now, at the age

of 88, I am a published author with a book and two short stories on Kindle. The book

is an insight on our adventures. On August 7, 2011, we will celebrate our 65th

anniversary. We have six children, twelve grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchil-

dren. That gives me lots of material for more stories.

Again, may I say Thank You! for the beautiful earrings; I will recall my days at

Logan every time I wear them.

Sincerely,

Caroline Cordes Breiwick

scholarships last April to the following 2011 graduates.

Logan Alumni Scholarship News

The Alumni Board is pleased to report on its Perpetual Scholarship Fund. The fund is managed

by Trust Point (formerly North Central Trust). The funds are invested in a diversified portfolio.

Financially, the Association has had a good year so far. The Ranger Rally was a success. Donations and contributions have been an

excellent source of revenue. Because our organization is completely voluntary, expenses remain very low.

Our operating income YTD is at $19,027, and operating expenses are a mere $1,768. This $17,259 in net operating earnings

YTD has allowed us to add another $15,000 to our perpetual fund.

The current value of the perpetual fund is $340,719.27. The association has a guideline to pay out approximately 4% of the previous

year- end balance for scholarships. For the 2011-2012 school year, $13,000 is scheduled to be paid out of the fund, in addition to

another $2,750 which is funded outside of the perpetual fund reaching total scholarships to be paid of $15,750.

Because of the increasing cost of post-high school education, one of the most important goals of the

Logan Alumni Association is to support the continued education of Logan students. Thank you for

all the support for this endeavor from the alumni, friends, and Logan family.

Darrell Dickinson

I attended Franklin, Logan Jr., and graduated from Logan High School in 1967; UW-La Crosse in 1971, and the

University of Minnesota in 1972. I married Shelley (Hadrian) from Milwaukee in 1972 (it will be 39 years on

November 25th). We have four children—Christina (Logan 1992), a teacher at Emerson Elementary; twin sons;

Andrew and Brian (Logan 1996), both involved in the family business, and Matthew (Marvelwood Prep School

in Kent, Conn. 2005), L.Cpl. in the United States Marine Corps, currently in Afghanistan. We have seven

grandchildren. I’ve worked for the Dickinson Funeral Homes for thirty-nine years.

If you are interested in serving on the Logan Alumni Association Board of Directors, please contact

Jane Molstad: [email protected]

Your efforts benefit Logan High School graduates.

Ralph Tolokken

I graduated from Logan in 1963 and went on to WSU-La Crosse and also to Arizona State, but came back and

graduated from WSU-La Crosse with a BA degree in Physical Education and Chemistry. I continued my educa-

tion and am just a few credits short of a master’s degree. I’ve had several jobs which include sales, teaching,

coaching, and then back to sales. The last employment of 25 years was with Brillion Iron Works which was the

third largest independent iron foundry in the USA. I retired four years ago as sales manager and account man-

ager. My wife, JoDee, and I have been married for 43 years. She graduated from Central. We have two

children—Leif, who graduated from Logan and still lives in the area, and Kristina, who also graduated from

Logan and now lives in Marshfield, WI, and has two children; Maren and Afton. My general interests and

hobbies include doing projects around the yard and house and also playing golf. I plan to take up fishing again

next summer. Overall, I’ve traveled a lot in my job with Brillion and lost touch with many people here in La

Crosse. I am enjoying getting back into the swing of things in La Crosse now that I am here most of the time.

Sue Hammond

Susie Wright (maiden name) Hammond. I graduated from Logan in 1968. I married classmate, Terry, in

1970. We have two children; Todd and Bill, who both graduated from Logan (1993 and 1998 respectively).

We are blessed with three grandchildren, ages 8, 2 and 5 months. I served on the Alumni Board in 2004,

2005, and 2006. Terry and I lived in La Crosse all our lives on the Northside until we retired in 2007. I re-

tired from the School District of Onalaska and Terry retired from the City of La Crosse. We then moved to

Pigeon Falls for four years and lastly moved to just five minutes north of Galesville in the Crystal Valley

area. We love being out in the country and enjoy the peacefulness and Mother Nature's blessings. Terry

works part-time for Falls Meat Service in Pigeon Falls, and I am occasionally doing subbing in the Galesville

and Holmen school districts. My hobbies include; gardening, making cards, reading, walking, biking and

enjoying our grandchildren.

New or Changed Memberships

Thanks to all of you who have donated Logan High School yearbooks to our alumni library.

We are well on our way to achieving our goal of having a complete set.

We are missing Winneshieks from the following years: 1971, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010

If you might be at a used book store, rummage sale, or estate sale, please keep Winneshieks in mind! They can be dropped off at the high school or mailed to:
