PSWTE President’s Letter “A bend in the road is not the end of the road. . . unless you fail to make the turn.” Helen Keller I thought of this as I prepare for the upcoming Training session being offered August 29 th , 8:30 am - 4 pm at Bear Creek United Methodist Church. It is being led by the Regional Directors of Walk to Emmaus. Training means listening, and being open to new thoughts and ideas, learning new concepts and adjusting current policies. This means being open to change. Change. A scary word! But I always remember what my mom says, “Ida, the only thing that is permanent is change.” In a speech on June 26, 1963, John F. Kennedy said, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.” I don’t believe in change for change’s sake. There should be a purpose. So why is the Lord bringing this training to PSWTE now? It was Saturday morning last October. We in the talk room had just heard, with our whole hearts, God’s amazing promise of Baptism His indwelling presence we claim in that covenantal pledge. While standing at the altar, we were singing, “As I went down to the river to pray, studying about that good ol’ way, And who shall wear the starry crown. Good Lord, show me the way.” It was so moving, it caused goose bumps. And then I saw the Holy Spirit swirling among us, in little glimpses of green and blue, aurora borealis style and I knew. I knew! This Emmaus thing isn’t some program we put on. God is in this! He wants us to be successful and growing for Him. It is His ministry! He is our vine and we are His branches. John 15:2-4 declares, “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful… Remain in me, as I remain in you; no branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” So, are we bearing fruit? What is the fruit of PSWTE? Isn’t it growing believers into the Body of Christ, so they will be inspired and equipped for greater Christian action in their homes, churches, communities, and work places? So why are we struggling to have enough pilgrims? Why are our teams going unfilled? If God’s heart is in Emmaus, why isn’t ours? Maybe that’s why God is bringing this training session. Do we need some pruning? As we prepare to meet on August 29, please pray with me David’s prayer in Psalm 119:169, “O Lord, listen to my prayer; give me the common sense you promised.” Pray for open hearts and listening ears. Pray that His direction will be so clear to us our bounty will overflow! “And so it is with prayer keep on asking and you will keep getting; keep on looking and you will keep finding; knock and the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9 TLB Regional Training Session. PSWTE President’s Letter

“A bend in the road is not the end of the road. . . unless you fail to make the turn.” Helen Keller

I thought of this as I prepare for the upcoming Training session being offered August 29th, 8:30 am -

4 pm at Bear Creek United Methodist Church. It is being led by the Regional Directors of Walk to Emmaus. Training

means listening, and being open to new thoughts and ideas, learning new concepts and adjusting current policies. This

means being open to change. Change. A scary word! But I always remember what my mom says, “Ida, the only thing

that is permanent is change.” In a speech on June 26, 1963, John F. Kennedy said, “Change is the law of life. And those

who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.”

I don’t believe in change for change’s sake. There should be a purpose. So why is the Lord bringing this training to

PSWTE now?

It was Saturday morning last October. We in the talk room had just heard, with our whole hearts, God’s amazing promise

of Baptism – His indwelling presence we claim in that covenantal pledge. While standing at the altar, we were singing,

“As I went down to the river to pray, studying about that good ol’ way,

And who shall wear the starry crown. Good Lord, show me the way.”

It was so moving, it caused goose bumps. And then I saw – the Holy Spirit swirling among us, in little glimpses of green

and blue, aurora borealis style – and I knew. I knew! This Emmaus thing isn’t some program we put on. God is in this!

He wants us to be successful and growing for Him. It is His ministry! He is our vine and we are His branches.

John 15:2-4 declares, “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he

prunes so that it will be even more fruitful… Remain in me, as I remain in you; no branch can bear fruit by itself; it must

remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”

So, are we bearing fruit? What is the fruit of PSWTE? Isn’t it growing believers into the Body of Christ, so they will be

inspired and equipped for greater Christian action in their homes, churches, communities, and work places? So why are

we struggling to have enough pilgrims? Why are our teams going unfilled? If God’s heart is in Emmaus, why isn’t ours?

Maybe that’s why God is bringing this training session. Do we need some pruning?

As we prepare to meet on August 29, please pray with me David’s prayer in Psalm 119:169, “O Lord, listen to my prayer;

give me the common sense you promised.”

Pray for open hearts and listening ears. Pray that His direction will be so clear to us our bounty will overflow! “And so it

is with prayer – keep on asking and you will keep getting; keep on looking and you will keep finding; knock and the door

will be opened.” Luke 11:9 TLB

Lay Director’s Lunacy

You want me to prayerfully consider giving a talk. “No way!” was the response in my brain,

but, “OK” is what came out of my mouth. Where did that come from? I was NEVER going to do

that! You asked me to prayerfully consider serving as Palanca Boss, and I said sure. What have I

done? I was NEVER going to do that! You have been nominated for serving as a Lay Director.

Would you prayerfully consider serving in this capacity? I would be honored to serve the Lord as

Lay Director. Did I say that? I was NEVER going to do that! What I have figured out is that any

conversation that begins with “Would you prayerfully consider?” seems to evoke an affirmative

response from me.

Thanks be to God for the Walk to Emmaus. My experience serving Him on these weekends has

helped me grow in my faith and as a person. It has shown me that with Him I can accomplish

anything. He has also given me wonderful mentors, all my Brother/Sisters-in-Christ who have

guided me in my service.

I am looking forward with anticipation (and some apprehension) to serving as Lay Director for

the walk this summer. The theme for the weekend is “Father Will You Come”. The theme comes

from the song I chose, recorded by the band Unhindered. The chorus starts out like this, “Father

will you come and open up our eyes.” The verse I chose, which seemed to go along with the chorus

of the song is Luke 24:30-31. “When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks,

broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he

disappeared from their sight.”

Lord, wrap your loving arms around all who will serve this weekend. May our words and

actions be a reflection of your love so that the pilgrims attending the walk will be blessed as they

never have before. Amen!

Your Brother-in-Christ, Dana O’Blenes P.S.: There are still openings on the team to serve! Would you prayerfully considering serving on Walk

#224?

Thoughts from the Women's’ Lay Director

As I was thinking about and planning the upcoming Woman’s Walk many months ago, I was drawn to the song, This is Amazing Grace, by Phil Wickham. The song spoke to me strongly about the great sacrifice of Jesus for us, that we could be so loved and forgiven by our God. His great love for us is unfailing, thus the theme for the weekend, Unfailing Love.

I was praying about a scripture and I kept coming back to Matthew 7:7-8. This verse speaks to me as a reminder of the deep desire God has for us to ask for His guidance and help, to seek His counsel and presence and to whole heartedly submit to and trust Him. Being a bit of a control freak, I am constantly in need of the reminder to ask God first and act after I have listened for His guidance.

The logo came about from the “Knock” portion of the scripture. As Ron and I have traveled, I have always been drawn to old doors. I have quite the picture collection and I know I have frustrated my hubby by lagging behind on our walks for just one more photo! As I looked through my pictures, I noticed that none of the doors I had photographed were open; they were beautiful, but they were closed. In my thoughts for the logo, I wanted a door that was wide open. The final product speaks to me of the great sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and that through His triumphant resurrection and ascension He has thrown open the doors to Heaven. We need to wholeheartedly trust and follow Him.

Thank you for your support and prayers as I have been planning and putting God’s team together to serve our pilgrims for this Walk. They have strengthened me greatly. We are only part of the way there and continued prayers for the team and for our pilgrims will sustain us!

In His Unfailing Love, Anne Tarrant

*Palanca * – A friendly reminder about palanca:

1. Ensure the first *and* last name is on all palanca. Often there are several team and/or pilgrims with the same first name. If there is a nickname (other than that used to register the pilgrim) put it in parenthe-sis.

2. Use Faith, Love, Hope (for the 3 days). Do not use Day 1, Day 2, Day 3.

3. Items must be able to fit in a lunch sack with all the other items the pilgrim or team member will re-ceive. Larger items/gifts should be saved for after the walk and given as 4th Day palanca.

4. When sending pillow palanca, please send enough for everyone. If the item is only meant for pil-grims, please specify such--and send enough for all pilgrims.
