Important today for the boys to get back to back wins against Somerville.

From the outset we saw they were up for a scrap and the first was just that, we were clean from the middle and

winning the clearances hands down as Chris Matthews and Packo were all over it, but as a team our kicking efficiency

was below par which made it difficult for the forwards.

Somerville played 2 loose back from start to finish which allowed us to play Jase riley forward which paid of early with

2 quick ones. I was happy with their intent as we went in at quarter time by a goal kicking into a fierce breeze. The

second quarter was a case of bad habits creeping back as we dominated possession then moving forward we kicked

at goal under perceived pressure and totaled 1.7 for the quarter although the opposition didn’t score it was hard to

watch. We got back to our game style in the 3rd and ran in numbers and hit up our forwards beautifully.

Riley was starting to dominate and Riki Clarke and Robbo were fantastic down back. Tom Matthews was outstanding

on his wing and Jacob McColl-Jones got a opportunity on the other wing and played his best game for the club. We

kicked 5 goals to 1 heading into the last with a 42 point lead. The last was pure dominance as we piled on 8 goals to

zip and ran out 90 point winners.

Dellar continued on his great form in the ruck and Jewell and Rogowski got busy on their flanks. The story of the day

was Jason Riley as he moved forward to make the opposition accountable and kicked 10.2 for the day!

CLUB 44 - Honoring Justin Groves

Club 44 was struck in honor of the memory of Justin Groves, a player who tragically passed away in his twenties.

Justin was a passionate Karingal person who wore his heart on his sleeve and it is hoped that members of Club 44

share the passion and desire for success that Justin possessed not only for Karingal but in life. The Groves family

has had an association with Karingal for over 30 years and those who have witnessed Justin’s father and brother

David and Paul supporting the club will understand how much victory would have meant to Justin.

The number 44 is symbolic because this is the number Justin wore in all of his games for Karingal. Club 44 retains an

element of exclusivity because of its limited with the Club 44 insignia printed on them.

In 2004 the Groves family struck an annual award to be given at each Presentation Night. The Club 44 award is given

to the player exhibiting the qualities that Justin displayed throughout his career. Courage to perform under adversity,

Determination to succeed against stronger opposition and Tenacity to persist until the result is achieved. In addition to

a trophy the winner can elect to wear jumper number 44 in the following season, his family feels truly touched by the

warmth with which this club has been accepted.

Even with Justin’s passing he continues to have an emotional and tangible influence on the success of the Karingal

Football Club

Netball Report:

A Grade - WON

B Grade - WON C Grade - BYE

We asked for 2 wins from 2 last week & that’s what we got. We knew Chelsea had improved from last season & both games were going to be tough, but the girls played some good netball, taking what we learn at training and putting it into practice on court. A few changes were also made in both teams last week, with some very different line ups but the girls adjusted & played well in the teams & postions they were put in. Special mention to Sara Burke who I think played one of her best games for the season & also to Emily Williams for another great game in goals, Emily has played all but the last 2 games in defence, the B girls took out the game by 15 goals & the A team had more of a struggle with Rachel, Mel & Jade having a tough game in defence & Beck was great in goals shooting 30 of our 42 goals for the game with the girls coming out winners by 3 goals at the end. This week we venture to Pines for 3 games, & 3 wins is what we are asking for with all 3 teams sitting nicely in or just out of the 4. Netty Prez
