Planet Press have been supplying quality printing in Australia since 1958. We provide our services to many large corporations, financial institutions and leading Australian businesses. We have proven our ability to provide quality printed materials within expected delivery times. Planet Press have also been relied upon to produce items with critical and short lead times, or other challenging circumstance, and our commitment to our clients has ensured that these requirements have been met.

Planet Press is conveniently located near the geographical centre of Sydney at Condell Park and currently employ 46 people. Our production capacity has developed markedly in recent years, whilst the number of people employed has been slightly reduced. Through

monitoring economic trends, training, job versatility, quality assurance systems, improvements in technology and plant equipment, our planning has paid-off and we’ve by no way reached our limit.

Our history has formed a stable base for our future growth and development as we progress. Our combined divisions of Planet Press, Planet Communications, Planet Direct Mail, Planet Logistics and EnviroPrint are The Planet Press Group. We are able to provide the vast majority of print and marketing needs for most Australian organisations.

Since 1958, Planet Press Pty Limited have continued to provide high quality printed documents to Australian businesses. Over the years we’ve demonstrated consistently strong growth to become one of Sydney’s most progressive, respected, diverse and reliable print manufacturers. December 2008 we celebrated our 50th year in business.

Our continuing success is due to the dedication, skill and love for the industry and the company by teams of people who have worked with us in the past and those working here together today.

Whilst industry change since inception has been nothing less than phenomenal - Planet’s ability to evolve and adapt to change affords us strength through versatility and knowledge.

The company has grown since inception from a small operation - to factory premises at Clements Avenue Condell Park - followed by a further move to the present address of 8 Ilma Street in 1963.

Over the years adjoining properties have been purchased to allow growth of the business. Planet Press is now housed by several adjoining blocks of land, 4 - 10 Ilma Street and also a warehouse at 15 Ilma Street. Planet Press is currently owned by members of the founding families.

Our range of services include conceptual graphic design, pre-press imaging, computer-to-plate, digital printing, direct marketing print, quality colour and commercial printing (both flat sheet and continuous business forms with unit set capabilities), through to finishing, pick/pack, inventoried warehousing, online ordering and distribution.

Our passion for the environment has developed into an assistance scheme with the launch of EnviroPrint in 2005. This award winning conservation initiative aims to enhance public awareness of environmental conservation and cultural harmony whilst utilising potential waste material.

Russell is responsible for the overall business operations of The Planet Press Group and works closely with our Board of Directors. Heading our Sales and Project Management team, Russell’s efforts have led Planet to act as a preferred supplier for some well known financial institutions and other leading Australian companies.

Peter has progressed through various areas of the company - sales, estimating, key account management and operations management. All customers are assigned an experienced, dedicated Account Manager who is supported by our management team to ensure the very best we can offer.

Planet’s management team is quality and performance focused and meets weekly to discuss opportunities for change and improvement. Customer satisfaction with the quality of our products and services is vital to our business success. Of significant importance to our continuous improvement is our decision to commence Competitive Manufacturing training for all personnel. This training program has been undertaken with a vision to develop our experienced employees further, and develop a proactive culture for excellence in service, quality, safety, environmental sustainability and waste minimisation.

Over an 18 month period prior to November 2011, all of Planet’s staff received on-site training towards Cert III or Cert IV Competitive (Lean) Manufacturing. Improvements through increased efficiency, productivity and reduced waste were implemented by our hard-working dedicated teams.

Everyday changes are made to improve our quality of work. Daily production meetings and department toolbox talks provide an arena where problems are discussed, and anticipated, to avoid issues and maximise our success rate.

Competitive Manufacturing encourages staff to make “small changes for the better”, and “watch with an eye for improvement” in everything they do. Training was provided on the job on a weekly basis by a specialist trainer, with focus areas being quality control, safety, environmental initiatives, housekeeping, profitability and communication.

The improvements our employees are making throughout the entire business are ongoing and work directly to improve customer satisfaction on many levels.

Planet’s main Supply Chain Management KPIs cover the following processes:

• sales forecasts • inventory • procurement and suppliers • transportation and distribution • warehousing

Additionally, some KPI reports are available to users of our online ordering system.

This information provides vital supply chain performance data while gaining visibility to the exact status of cost improvement projects and cost savings documentation.

Planet Press was quality endorsed by Standards Australia to ISO9001:1994 and accredited in December 1995. We have discontinued our certification. The Planet Press Group has redesigned our internal QA system to include some of the components of the ISO:2000 model and include the principles of our Quality Policy Statement to produce a working, user friendly QA system for management, customers, employees and suppliers.

Planet’s environmental initiatives are led by our Loyalty & Environment Manager, Mr Peter Marsh. Planet’s commitment to the environment and community is also demonstrated through our ongoing sponsorship of Keep Australia Beautiful, Save The Bilby Fund and support for Kids With Cancer Foundation.

Planet Press has commenced accreditation training and procedures on the pathway to ISO14001 Environmental Management Certification for the Printing Industry. We have selected Sustainable Green Print, the Australian printing industry’s own recognisable certification program, which is designed to help printing companies meet their environmental responsibilities and go above and beyond compliance.

In addition to sustainable work practices and beyond ISO14001 compliance, Peter Marsh has also developed our EnviroPrint program which is a conservation initiative. EnviroPrint aims to enhance public awareness of environmental conservation, cultural harmony, and the important work of Australian charities. We offer our support to worthy organisations through the donation of our quality design and print resources and the utilisation of recyclable potential waste material.

Through EnviroPrint we have made some great friends, and assisted some very worthwhile causes including: Save The Bilby Fund, Australian Koala Foundation, Featherdale Wildlife Park, Wires, Kids With Cancer, the Kuradji Aboriginal Community, Save Sandon Point Organisation, Bimbadeen, Greenpeace, Planet Ark and others.

Planet’s sustainable work practices and award winning EnviroPrint program has been recognised by Keep Australia Beautiful in 2009, where we were awarded Runner-Up in the Sustainable Business category.

EnviroPrint also received a Highly Commended Award for Waste Management by Keep Australia Beautiful NSW in 2008, as part of the Sustainable Cities Program. Bankstown City Council also recognised our achievements with award of a Highly Commended at the 2007 Business Awards for “ea2cc” (early action to climate change).

EnviroPrint - Gets Results! Through the utilisation of reclaimed, recyclable potential waste material, EnviroPrint allows us to use our skills and resources to assist others in a positive and rewarding way. At EnviroPrint we actively work to minimise waste and maximise resource use. The potential waste paper that is utilised saves trees, oil, electricity, water and landfill and has a direct impact on reducing climate change. Planet’s Pre-Press services are extremely comprehensive and are one of the most professional and progressive in Sydney. Our Pre-Press equipment is continually upgraded and enhanced after careful selection through select appraisal procedures. Planet’s Agfa Apogee system utilises a full PDF workflow enabling us to output PDF files produced on any computer platform.

Variable Data Printing

Planet Press have the equipment to perform full colour variable data printing, using powerful XMPIE Udirect software. Our variable data printing capability is ideal for small to medium volumes. For high volumes however we are often called upon to produce the pre-printed “shells” which are then overprinted by the mail-house with the supplied database info.

Digital Printing

Planet Press utilises a HP3500 Indigo Press, which is supported by Konica and Xerox presses (A4, A3, A3+ on a range of paper and other stocks). Digital printing is popular with our customers for its exceptional quality and competitive pricing. Teamed with our variable data capacity a whole new range of personalised marketing can be utilised.

Business Card Printing

Planet Press supply a range of corporate customers with their Australia-wide business card requirements. Many customers have switched to digital printing for business cards and utilise our online ordering facility which enables customers to enter the text into predetermined templates, approve artwork and submit for print - all online.

eBooks

Our online eBooks or “flipbooks” engage customers with a media rich experience. Exciting and dynamic tools make our digital editions interactive: audio, video, animation, embedded hyperlinks, QR codes and full custom branding. Combining eBooks with your print and advertising you will be able to reach a wider audience than ever before! Commercial & Colour Printing

Planet Press have provided high quality colour printing since inception. Our range of presses enable cost effective, quality results over a range of sizes and volumes. Printing plates produced at Planet Press are imaged directly from computer, and as such each is an original master providing the very best in image clarity.

Security and Confidential Printing

Planet Press are often relied upon by our clientele for our business ethics and trust. We understand the importance of confidentiality and direct and indirect costs involved with security items and information. We also offer secure warehouse storage at Planet Logistics.

Continuous Printing

Planet Press have been providing large volumes of continuous printing for many years. We are capable of providing a variety of standard sizes, with on-line finishing capabilities, tinting, perforating etc. printing up to 4 colours in a single pass onto a wide range of paper reels.

Forms and Carbonless Printing

Forms printing is a specialty area of Planet Press. Our range of presses enable variable sizes and cost effective options for any volume print run.

Magazine and Book Printing

Planet Press are currently utilised by a range of companies and clubs to design, print and mail periodical journals and magazines. Book printing is another of Planet’s specialty areas. Our 6 colour and 5 colour presses, in co-ordination with additional folding and finishing equipment enable great flexibility in production methodology.

Standard & Specialty Finishing Services

Planet Press has a comprehensive range of automated finishing equipment enabling us to handle all standard finishing requirements in-house. This enables our production planners to tailor the print of the job to suit our folding equipment etc. which aids cost efficiency and quality control. Very few specialist services are required to be performed by outside suppliers.

Warehouse, Fulfilment & Distribution

All of our current inventoried finished goods are warehoused on our own premises at Planet Logistics, saving transport costs, and enabling efficient control of stock and monitoring procedures. We offer complete third-party logistics services with overflow, short and long term storage with pallet, shelf and bin locations for printed items as well as other non-hazardous goods.

Mailing House Services

Planet Press co-ordinate mailing for our clients through strategic alliance with reliable mailing providers for large volumes. Small volumes as well as postcards and impact mail are lodged with Australia Post directly from our premises. Our in-house equipment includes inkjeting of addresses and envelope insertion. Planet lodge mail with Australia Post onto the customer’s account, saving handling fees and reducing expenses.

Design, Pre-Press & Digital Printing Equipment

Planet Press presently utilise 12 networked Macintosh & PC terminals utilising Agfa Apogee Prepress workflow system. This system provides the basis for us to repurpose the originating files for use as email proof, high resolution colour proof, digital printing and computer to plate rendering.

Various proofing and output devices include:

1 x HP3500 Indigo Printing Press (A3+ bleed using electrostatic ink on stocks up to 350gsm)

1 x Konica C7000 (A3+ bleed using toner at 2400dpi, quality colour digital)

1 x Fuji Xerox DC260 with inline finishing (A3+ bleed using toner - black & white plus colour digital)

1 x Fuji Xerox FX4127 with inline finishing (A3 + bleed using toner - high speed black & white digital)

1 x Agfa and 1 x Epsom digital contract proofers (reel fed)

In addition to large format inkjet plotters, Planet Press have 4 digital printing presses to suit all necessary requirements for both black and white, plus quality colour printing. All presses are capable of handling variable data. Personalised files are supplied to the press using XMPie software linked to customer supplied database through InDesign.

Our HP Indigo 3500 digital printing press uses electrostatic inks and print result is comparable to offset quality using digital technology. Printing onto uncoated and coated stocks, this press prints in four colour process, or hexachrome to enable increased pantone matching, plus offers facility for spot colours or matt varnish. Handling SRA3 sheet size it prints on up to 350gsm with swift print speed.

Providing the ability to scan hard copy or receive electronic files, the Xerox DC260 is

utilised for black and white plus colour digital print and uses toner. The press is equipped with saddle stitch and crash folding units enabling this unit to produce finished booklets, ideal for newsletters etc.

The Xerox FX4127 produces high speed black and white digital print, the press is equipped with saddle stitch units to produce finished booklets, ideal for newsletters and internal economical communications.

Planet’s Konica C7000 produces excellent quality colour digital print results using toner at 2400dpi. This press is capable of handling a wide range of paper types which makes it ideal for uncoated, recycled, textured and adhesive stocks. Another special feature is that it can handle very long sheet lengths suitable for short run banners or multi-page A4 folds.

File Preparation Software

Some of the software utilised includes: InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Publisher, Dreamweaver QuarkXpress, and XMPIE Udirect personalisation.

Printing Equipment

Five offset printing presses enable production of a wide variety of printed matter ranging in sizes from business cards to the Speedmaster 102-5-P, excellent for posters and 8 pages of A4.

Our colour printing extends to a 6 colour Roland press supported by a 5 colour Speedmaster. Each is computerised with a remote controlled console, which is able to store settings for repeat orders and quality control. Heidelberg GTO perfecting presses for quick jobbing work back up our flat sheet offset section (equipped with number and perforating). Heidelberg die cutting presses are used for cutting and creasing.

Two web presses produce business forms and computer continuous stationery to variable sizes, in multi colours, tinted paper, perforated, numbered in each direction, on carbonless,

bond and bank papers up to 500mm x 432 mm, both sheeting and fan fold.

The six colour Roland R306OB, and five colour Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 102-5-P printing presses enable us to achieve maximum output on a diverse range of jobs, run lengths, and stock types. Capable of handling 8 x A4 pages at view automated controls make job changing fast and easy. Make-ready costs are kept under control by automated plate changing and sheet size adjustments, and by newly developed plate scanning and CIP3 ink duct control components. Press sheets reach the delivery pile with top quality even when printing double-sided, multiple colour jobs in a single pass.

Finishing Equipment

Our finishing equipment includes automatic collators with multiple bin capacity for flat sheets to be collated economically. Plus 2 x 6 station continuous collators with overprinting and numbering attachments, together with crimping, line glue, spot glue and flexibind.

Folders range from minimum size of 125mm x 105mm up to 700mm x 1200mm sheet sizes, versatile enough for publications, brochures and pharmaceutical folders. Our Osako saddlestitcher trimmer includes a cover feeder and 6 hopper stations. Operating up to speeds of 12,000 books per hour, it can handle long book runs with ease. Inline crash folding, and loop or standard stitching options make this “collate, stitch and trim” highly versatile and suitable for small to larger size books.

Planet’s Horizon perfect binder produces books from 3mm to 50mm in spine thickness. A perfect partner for book finishing from our digital presses, this unit is very popular. Maximum page size is 320mm x 320mm, with minimum 148mm x 105mm. This unit, has automated cover feeder, scorer and backspine milling, producing up to 500 books per hour.

Guillotine of 45” width with 8” high stock capacity, including flowline system which is PC driven for rapid volume cutting.

Binding for business forms from padding and fanapart NCR sets to common and quarter bind finishing. Multi head drill makes light work of difficult drilling jobs. Clear PVC packaging or paper banding shows contents for ease of job recognition and customer stock control. Computerised labelling machine identifies each parcel of product.

Warehousing & Inventory Document Control

Planet Logistics provides the solution to completing your print or communications project and getting the items out to the community. We provide inventory warehousing, stock management, storage, online ordering with on-demand printing and despatch services for a wide variety of customers.

Our hand-line assembly, plus pick and pack processes from small to large quantities of product, assembling them, picking the relevant quantity of product for each destination and packaging for distribution with shipping label attached. Planet coordinate transport throughout Australia and overseas.

Logistics: Transport and Distribution Facilities

Deliveries within the metropolitan area are performed using our own vehicles daily. Areas outside of the Sydney metro including Canberra, the Blue Mountains and Newcastle are scheduled as required. The company delivery vehicles are supplemented by use of our contracted professional outside carriers with online tracking facilities for urgent or interstate deliveries.

The Planet Press Group operate a print industry specific online ordering system: http://www.planetpress.com.au/OrderOnline.html. The system provides a simple, easy to use link to a large amount of information for order placement, quote information, finished goods items available from Planet’s inventory warehouse, as well as the facility to upload files for on demand printing, customer entry of personalised stationery such as business cards, along with reporting features.

Planet’s online ordering system works in real-time with our warehouse and production systems for order placement, transaction history, inventory status, and online artwork creation with PDF viewing for approval of generic items such as business cards.

Planet’s web-based ordering system is part of our “Quote & Print” (Q&P) system and enables authorised personnel from our contracted customers access to our computer records for their organisation or cost centre. Information is available via password and username verification and our system is firewall protected. This system integrates directly with our internal computer network. Information is updated within minutes and enables our contracted clients timely reporting and up-to-date information on the status of their print

requirements. This system is linked to our aspnet barcode system that monitors job status throughout our plant as each project moves through various stages in production.

Planet’s Online Ordering System is a specialty area which incurs additional fees, and may include the following features:

• Categorised catalogue of all printed items (searched by product code) including, generic stationery, personalised stationery, promotional items and marketing items.

• Photographs allow for easy identification of product.• Item cost, description, quantity in stock etc.• PDF of original document in low-resolution format, for identification.• On Demand printing portal - including upload of artwork and input of specification requirements.• Link to password and user management, allowing requests for new accounts, forgotten passwords etc.• Ability to assign order specific delivery addresses to any location• Access to live information and customer reporting for stock levels, orders in progress, sorted by cost centre, transaction no. etc.

• Email confirmations are automatically sent to users for orders and received by our system.• Password registry is maintained of all users to ensure site security with varying levels of access permission.

Planet’s Online Ordering System Features

Production. This option allows users access to view all quotations including specifications, pricing breakups and details, all jobs including specifications and order status, plus enables online request for quotations to be submitted.

Quotations. All quotes prepared for the customer are listed. Quotes may be searched for by quote number or key words from the description title. Select the required quote with the radio button then click show detail for more information.

Order Stock Item. Finished goods stored in our warehouse are entered into an online catalogue. Users have access to stock level information, document version dates for forms control and can place orders for unit picks.

Stock Identification. All items entered into inventory warehouse stock are allocated a product code with version number and date. Preview images as thumbnails and zoom

images are also provided to enable users to confirm correct item selection before order is placed for pick.

Document Templates. Online templates can be prepared for a range of often used print items such as business cards, envelopes, letterheads etc. which require to be personalised. Authorised users can enter, view and approve their own artwork online.

Business Card Entry Online. Authorised users can enter the required details into prepared templates online, and preview the artwork in pdf format for approval. Email confirmations are sent for approval and at times of order placement, with final artwork pdf submitted electronically to our art department.

Administration & Reports. Authorised users can be given access to self manage user passwords and delivery address database. Complete order history is also available as well as a range of online reports.

Online Reports. A range of online reports are available including Stock Level Report, Web Order Report (with filtering options), Stock On Hand Report, Back Order Report and Reorder Report. Reports are previewed in pdf format and can also be exported to excel file.

Digital File SpecificationsThe Planet Press Group provides in-house creative agency and pre-press services.

If you wish to supply your own artwork for print projects, please review the following specifications. Please do not hesitate to contact our pre-press department prior to sending your file, our operators are glad to help and can preflight files to confirm suitability of file formatting. At the time of quotation Planet Press assume that the digital files to be supplied are correctly prepared and 100% ready to run. Additional charges may be incurred if corrections or amendments to the files are necessary.

Planet accepts most professional file formats and keep up-to-date with software improvements with the complete suite of Adobe Creative Cloud for Teams. We prefer final output files for print projects to be constructed in Indesign. Planet’s pre-press and design studio operate Macintosh computers running OSX. Illustrator and Photoshop files should be saved in CMYK colour mode; or EPS or TIFF in grayscale mode if applicable. Images saved in other formats such as RGB colour mode will require file editing to achieve expected results, which may incur additional charges.

Other software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher are designed for print to desktop office printers, and do not have the necessary colour and image handling capabilities to provide the file in the correct way for professional print quality results. Digital files provided using these formats produce RGB documents, and often use JPEG low-resolution images.

When supplying original native files to Planet Press please package to include the following: • All scans in CMYK colour mode (minimum 300dpi at actual size) • All fonts used in the document(s) • All logos and linework illustrations used in the job (saved as outlines in Adobe Illustrator) • Minimum 5mm bleed where applicable • Provide a hard copy printed mock-up of the document for quality control purposes

Print-ready high resolution PDF should be supplied as: • CMYK images only in the original document, (not RGB) scanned at minimum 300dpi at final size • Only include spot colours for inks intended to be printed that way • Crop marks only (colour bars and centre marks not required) • 5mm Bleed (3mm minimum) • Image centred on the document page, in single pages (not imposed) • Saved for Acrobat 4 or higher, with all editing capabilities preserved • All fonts must be embedded • Colour and grayscale bitmap images to an average downloading sample of 400dpi • Monochrome images to an average downloading sample of 1200dpi • 8 bit zip compression • No security settings
