Before I came to this conference, I thought our snow planning was good - but after hearing discussion, I know it’s only just satisfactory
European Airport ManagerWe are working to be ready for the worst case scenario. By making substantial investment 10 years ago we reduced runway closure time from 45 to 22 minutes Canadian Airport Executive
We produce a new Snow Plan before each winter. There is a whole spectrum of conditions and many different types of snow’
Central Europe Airport ManagerStaff retention builds experience and that experience is hard to find. No one has put a cost to that experience

Lack of suitable facilities is the main reason for airports not recycling de-icing agents. One manager stated only new airports can build in the required facilities – historic airports will always struggle with this

Software that provides dependable and reliable read-out of conditions Enhanced visual communication between clearance vehicles Equipment with high ground clearance for deep snow Equipment to weigh aircraft prior to take off Anti collision device on aircraft steps Smaller more nimble clearance vehicles Powerful snow dispersal equipment

Risk of disruption to business is by far the most important justification for buying an expensive piece of clearance equipment. Some managers believe that only a ‘Watershed Incident’ provides the justification for this scale of investment

Question:To solve London’s need for airport capacity, which of the following options would you vote for?
Disappointment for Mayor Johnson – not a single delegate supports his plan for the ‘Boris Island’ solution !Almost half of delegates (from all round the world) see expansion at Heathrow as the preferred solution

Always better to build on existing infrastructure. It’s cheaper and swifter, and may avoid planning enquiries
Scandinavia Airport ManagerEssential to build on what you have. If you start to run down a hub airport you degrade it’s strength
European Airport ManagerDanger is to over-debate and lose competitive edge. It would take 20 years to build a new airport which would mean huge loss of business for the UK
