The purpose of expository writing is to impart comprehensible information bydening, explaining and interpreting. Expository essays are written bystudents to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a particular topic. The essay is organized around one topic and developed according to patternor combination of patterns. The writer of an expository text cannot assumethat the audience has prior knowledge of the topic being discussed. Since
clarity reuires strong organization, one the most important mechanisms toimprove skills in exposition, is to improve the organization of the text.
