All VENOLIA Pistons are constructed from tried and proven 2618 T61 or 4032 T62 alloys. A billet is heated to 800° F and forged

using a 3000 ton high speed mechanical forge press to produce a fine grain structure in the aluminum which yields the absolute

strongest blank possible. Whether you are making over 1000 horsepower per cylinder, running ultra-high RPM, or just need the

While VENOLIA has a strong history in piston design, we incorporate the latest technology including CAD CAM systems to

develop new forgings for ever changing head configurations and the lightweight technology demanded by today's racers. These

systems are linked to the latest CNC equipment to provide ultra-precise machining in all operations, including accurately

machined ring grooves for proper clearances. The use of a full skirt design increases bore stability and eliminates the problem

Cam Milled Side ReliefsThe VENOLIA special profile is designed to remove excess weight without sacrificingreliability. It is one of the most critical operations in piston manufacturing. Themilling cutter follows the contours of the master and works in much the same way as a cam grinder. Note: Cam milled reliefs are standard on some types of pistons.

Nitrous Oxide When ordering pistons for use with nitrous oxide, please make note on the order form or inform your VENOLIA representative. Pleasespecify the approximate amount of horsepower you plan on adding with the nitrous. Due to extreme demands on piston integrity by theincreased cylinder pressure and temperature, VENOLIA will use a slightly different design criteria to insure maximum piston durabilityunder these conditions.Bore SizeThe skirts on VENOLIA pistons are ground to fit the bore size. When ordering pistons, specify the exact bore size on the engine block.When boring the cylinders oversize, it is advisable to use standard overbore sizes. The standard overbore sizes are .020˝, .030˝, .040˝and .060˝.Valve ClearanceThe lift of the cam does not determine the amount of clearance required in the valve pocket, the amount of overlap does.Give us the valve lift at overlap at T.D.C. and plus and minus degrees from T.D.C.

Power SlotsPlug reliefs and power slots are essential for maximum performance in certain applications. In engine types where the dome of the piston blocks the flame front-travel or makes contact with the plug, reliefs are necessary. Tests have indicated that power can be increased significantly by putting in a large relief to facilitate proper flame travel.

Snap LocksTruarc’s and Spirolox’s double snap rings are recommendedfor all racing applications where pin buttons are not desirable.

Pin ButtonsVENOLIA pin buttons provide positive pin retention in pistons. Inreplacing pin locks, buttons are used to support the oil rings whenthe oil ring must be in the pinhole on engines with large strokes.

*Plunge Valve ReliefsVENOLIA has created special tooling to faithfully duplicate the underside of valves inthe piston valve relief. The pocket matches the shape of the valve head. Note: Particular care should be taken when ordering tuliped valves as many enginesare produced with a variety of valve head shapes. Furthermore, tuliped valve reliefscan affect flow in the chamber.

*Angle Pin OilersThe oil pick-up hole is located in the oil ring land and is large enough to allowmore than adequate flow. The openings connect with the pinhole allowing for fullpin lubrication. The oiler system is not recommended on some applications (inquire before ordering).

*Maximum Weight RemovalMaximum weight removal utilizes every weight removing operation that is available.These processes provide the lightest piston for specialized use and are recommended especially for super stock and modified drag racing applications.

*Lateral Gas Ports Gas ports allow cylinder pressure to pass directly behind the top ring to seal ring. This is required with minimum side clearance.

*Vertical Gas Ports Gas ports allow cylinder pressure to pass directly behind the top ringand aid sealing ability. Cylinder pressure no longer flows past ringsides thus preventing ring flutter and loss of compression.

evacuation holes, proper ring configurations, locations and accurate dome configurations.

TOP RINGS.046 Chrome Stainless Steel Ring (K wall)This is the original stainless steel racing ring invented by VENOLIA in 1963. Since then, there havebeen many copies on the market, but none have the exclusive VENOLIA K wall design. The deeper Kwall design helps prevent ring flutter and maintains ring seal at high RPMs. These rings will not chip,crack or break. They are good for supercharged engines and engines using gas ports.

1. The cleaner your bores, the better. For best results:a. Thoroughly wash the block with a spray solvent gun.b. Wash thoroughly with soap and water.c. Using a can of spray oil (like WD-40®) and a roll of paper towels,

spray all the bores and allow to sit for a few minutes.d. Carefully wipe each bore with a clean paper towel. Check each towel to

determine if there are any metal particles still left in the pores of the bore.The light oil will float the particles out of the pores. If the towel comes outdirty, keep repeating the process until the towels come out clean.

PISTON CLEARANCE: With 2618 alloy, top of skirt .008 to .010. Bottom of skirt:.005 to .007. Air cooled engines usually require more clearance.

race --- 010-0132. Check your pistons completely for any burrs or sharp edges. Using a deburringknife lightly go over any sharp edges. Make sure there are no chips in the ringlands and pin locks left from machining operations. Thoroughly clean the pistons insolvent and blow them dry with a high powered air hose.

3. Check all rings in their respective bores for proper end gap clearance. It is bestto use a ring squaring tool to make sure the rings are square in the bore beforemeasuring end gaps. Make sure you use a commercial ring filer to increase the endgaps and that it cuts the rings square.RING CLEARANCE: Side Clearance .003 to .004 ring gap: .004 to .005 per inch of bore.When fitting rings to cylinder bores, every .001 change in bore diameter changesthe end gap by approximately .003. Diameter changes affect the gap by the factorof Pi 3.1416. An example of an increase in bore diameter of .002 increases the ring gap by .00628.Example: .002 x 3.1416 = .00628

4. Install the rings on the pistons with a commercial ring installer to prevent damage to the rings. Place the end gaps at 90 to 180 degree intervals. It is best to place the top end gaps toward the torquing side of the piston.

5. Check for piston to valve clearance. This can be done by placing modeling clay on the piston domes and installing the heads and valve train and then rotating the engine. Remove the heads and check the clay thickness. It can also be accomplished with lightweight ‘checking springs’ that are available from manycamshaft manufacturers.

6. Have your block ultrasonically tested for cylinder wall thickness. On cast ironblocks, .150 is the absolute minimum.

7. Make sure the deck surface has been machined flat and smooth. If the engine isa V-8, the decks must be equal distance from the crank centerline and the decks 90degrees to each other. Use torque plates that exactly duplicate head distortion.

8. Install the main caps and torque them to specs for all boring and honing operations.
