...is happening at Tollesbury Granary?
Tollesbury Granary Restoration Campaign will rescue this listed building for the
community.
…is so special about Tollesbury Granary?
What...?
It’s always been at the front line of ‘the sail and the plough’...for grain storage, fishing and boatbuilding...
...a byegone commercial heart not to be forgotton.
This 150 yr old Grade 2 listed building now presents an opportunity for the whole community...
… as we form a Maritime and Local History Visitor and Educational Resource Centre
BBC Restoration Village will fund this project if
enough people VOTE (from 28/7/06 til 2/8/06) for Tollesbury Granary
09013 600500 Calls from a BT landline will cost £1, cost of calls from other networks and mobiles may vary. More than 75p from each call will go to ‘The Restoration Fund’ a BBC registered charity (no
1098895) to help restore the winning building, providing it fulfils the conditions set out by the Charity’s Trustees
What Needs to be Done?
Essential Repairs …to the structure and fabric as described by Engineers The Brian Morton Partnership within the Feasibility Study. Sound conservation philosophy is at the heart of the Mid Essex Historic Building Trust’s work.
Flood Defence Work… currently flooding ~ 6 times per year but needing an impractical 1.5m elevation to avoid this, a mere 450 mm lift would reduce flooding to an exciting, educational, yet manageable once per year. You would be introduced to the tide tables when you book this Granary!
Legal and Contractual Procurement… by the Mid Essex Historic Buildings Trust to ensure a loing term sustainable use for this listed building.
Access for All… a discrete lift and a new external stairway will provide safe access whilst making the most of the spectacular 1st floor river views.

Hilary Brightmnan Conservation Architect’s Feasibility Study optimises spaces & spectacular views without compromising listed character.
