THE PROCLAIMER
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, BIG SPRING, TEXAS The miss ion of F i r st Bapt ist Church is to evangel ize the unsaved, d isc ip le the saved
and nur ture a l l church members .
As we move toward
the return of all of our
school year activities
let me invite you to
consider being a part
of the Music and
Worship Ministry here at FBC. There are places for singers,
instrumentalists, and even tech crew helpers. We realize
you are very busy, but also know that there are many of you
who God has gifted in unique ways that would be a blessing
to Him and His ministry. Won’t you consider using your
gifts to facilitate worship in the life of our church? It will be
a great blessing to the Lord, to His church, and to you!

ACTS 1:8 OPPORTUNITIES MUSIC MINISTRY
“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are
perishing.” 1 Corinthians 2:15
Operation Christmas Child
Item of the Month: School Supplies
School Supplies: School supplies will be distributed at the
mission center on Thursday, August 8. Deadline for bringing
supplies to the church is Sunday, August 4.
Prison Ministry: The prisons in Big Spring are a wide open
field to be able to take the gospel to people from nations all
over the world so the prisoners, in turn, can take it back to
their nations once they are released. If you would like to be a
part of a prison ministry, there will be a special training this
fall. Contact Sherry Lindsey for more information.
Neighborhood Trash Day. Thank you for showing hospitali-
ty to our neighbors as they brought their trash to us. Continue
to pray that we have opportunities to develop relationships
with our neighbors.
FROM THE PASTOR
Recently, I came across an article penned by Jim
Elliff, one of six pastors of Christ Fellowship of
Kansas City. It is simple and to the point. The title
of the article is “35 Reasons I Don’t Want to Sin”,
Hopefully, it will challenge you as it has challenged
me.
Because a little sin leads to more sin.
Because my sin invites the discipline of God.
Because the time spent in sin is forever wasted.
Because my sin never pleases but always grieves
God, who loves me.
Because my sin places a greater burden on my
spiritual leaders.
Because in time my sin always brings heaviness
to my heart.
Because I am doing what I do not have to do.
Because my sin always makes me less than
what I could be.
Because others, including my family, suffer
consequences due to my sin,
Because my sin saddens the godly.
Because my sin makes the enemies of God
rejoice.
Because sin deceives me into believing I have
gained, when in reality I have lost.
Because sin may keep me from qualifying for
spiritual leadership.
Because the supposed benefits of my sin will
never outweigh the consequences of
disobedience.
Because repenting of my sin is a painful process,
yet I must repent.
Because sin is a very brief pleasure for an
eternal loss.
Because my sin may influence others to sin.
Because my sin may keep others from knowing
Christ.
Because sin makes light of the cross, where
Jesus died, for the very purpose of taking
away my sin.
Because it is impossible to sin and follow the
Spirit at the same time.
Because God chooses not to respect the prayers
of those who cherish their sin.
Because sin steals my reputation and robs me of
my testimony.
Because others once more earnest than I, have
been destroyed by just such sins.
Because the inhabitants of heaven and hell
would all testify to the foolishness of this
sin.
Because sin and guilt may harm both mind and
body.
Because sin mixed with service makes the
things of God tasteless.
Because suffering for sin has no joy or reward,
though suffering for righteousness has both.
Because when I sin, I am committing adultery
with the world.
Because, though forgiven, I will review this very
sin at the Judgment seat, where loss and
gain of eternal rewards are applied.
Because I can never really know ahead of time
just how severe the discipline for my sin
might be.
Because my sin may be an indication of a lost
condition.
Because my unwillingness to reject this sin now
grants it an authority over my greater than I
wish to believe.
Because sin glorifies God only in His judgement
of it and His turning of it to good use, never
because it is worth anything on it’s own.
Because I promised God He would be Lord of my
life.
Because it is impossible to sin and follow the
spirit at the same time.

Watch for more information soon about these classes about missions. Just a word about camp...We had so much fun!! Thank you for your support and prayers for our children. Summer church camp has a long history of making huge impacts on kid’s lives. Mrs. Alexis is moving and Miss Kinna wants to be able to go to worship with her family. These two ladies have been invaluable to us and loved our littlest ones so well! They will be missed! If you know of anyone that would like to work on Sunday mornings from 9:00-12:00, please send them my way. They will need to pass a background check and provide references. Thank you!!

Here are a few other dates in the future to
keep in mind for the upcoming year:
November 20—Awakening (location TBD)
Feb 7-9 2020 (tentative)—DNOW weekend
with speaker, Dr. Richard Ross
August is a month that we intentionally
have a bit of down time so that students and
families can prepare to wrap up summer and
head back to school. We INTENTIONALLY
only plan one scheduled activity before
school starts back in August to give families
as much time as possible together. Sunday
morning Bible Study as well as Sunday
morning and evening worship continue as
usual. We do not have any regular
Wednesday activities, except for the fall kick-
off on Wednesday August 21st in the youth
room. We’ll be back together for an awesome
time with games, food and other activities.
We will also introduce our fall teaching
series. Make sure you put that night on your
calendar as we kick off the fall schedule.
The one big event that we do have in
August is on Saturday, August 17th. This is
our “Welcome to Youth” event for those about
to enter 7th grade and the youth ministry.
We’ll once again go to Altitude Trampoline
Park. Exactly which park is still being
finalized. We will leave sometime after lunch
and be back in Big Spring at a reasonable
time that night. There is no cost for those
incoming 7th graders. The cost for other
students is only $5 plus a fast food supper on
the way home. Details will be posted on the
youth Facebook page soon!!
Promotion Sunday for those entering 7th
grade is Sunday August 18th. We’ll have
Krispy Kreme donuts that morning so don’t
miss out!
On Sunday August 25th, we’ll have a
youth and parent luncheon in the dining
room. Come find out about the upcoming
year in our youth ministry. We’ll officially
start signing up for Youth Camp 2020 on
that day as well. Details are still being
finalized, but we’ll have all the information
for you on that date. We will also have an
update on the search for a new youth
pastor on that day. The meal is free and
we’ll provide someone to watch younger
children and students in the gym after the
meal while we have a brief meeting. There
will also be a Q&A time at the end for the
parents of 7th graders to answer all your
questions about the youth ministry.
